First concert I ever went to was The Black Crowes in 1993. They exploded on the stage with No speak no slave while a curtain of vertical christmas lights went crazy. Being exposed to rock women for the first time and standing in the sea of marijuana smoke was sensory overload. No speak No slave...
The rare occasion where I'm immediately grabbed on first listening. I'm far from a musical enthusiast so this was something I'd never heard before. Cellos, violins, accordions in a rock band.awesome. Wake up and Power out have been suggested more than once. I'll add Haiti and Une anee sans...
The Spy who came in from the cold, a Chaos34 pick. A British spy who ran a network in East Germany is sent home. He feels obsolete. An operation is planned and he's been put in the middle. The pace is set in chapter 1 at a checkpoint between East and West Germany, not fast or slow just steady...
I have to go with Harborcoat, one of my favorites from the band. It's uptempo that sounds a little happy but according to Stipe the puzzling lyrics are about The Diary of Anne Frank. huh? either way great song.
finished Burnt Offerings that was on shuke's list. A family decides to rent a house in the country for the summer. The terms of the rental are a bit weird and we slowly learn that there's something going on with the house. Things keep getting a little more strange. It's labelled horror but it's...
I thought a piano song would be appropriate. Maybe I'm over thinking it. Hunky Dory is well known and people probably have a good idea of what's on it...so Queen B it is. Kupcho you can add it.
I'll add Janie Jones to the playlist. woah. The Clash thought it was worthy of the first track so I will follow. woah. I hope SayChowda is ok with selection. woah. This album opened the whole world of punk music to me. woah. My ignorance led me to believe punk was all noisy garbage with bad...
At the hundredth meridan is great and has been at one time or another my favorite on the album. Fully Completely was the first hip I got into and I think it's their best. Wheat Kings on my friends walkman was the wow moment for me.
There doesn't seem to be a bad choice or a great one either, as you said "more than the sum of the parts". If it's an introduction to Wire I'd go Mercy, Too Late, or Men 2nd. An intro to Chairs than Outdoor Miner, Fly, or maybe Another the Letter.
Early REM was always an afterthought, seemed dull. Decided to give it a real shot based on how much I liked their 90s stuff. Started with Murmur and a few listens later ... volia my 4th ranked album. Had to eventually remove songs from playing device so I wouldn't OD on it. Moral Kiosk will be...
