I'm hopeful as well that things can go back to some level of civility. Agree that the media dynamic isn't going to save us, but maybe it'll get better when the guy who has broken all rules of decorum and decency goes away.
I’m totally excommunicating people from my life when they “vote for the wrong person.”
That makes it sound way more innocuous than it really is. I like to surround myself with people that make me a better person. Voting for he-who-must-not-be-named is a deal breaker.
Fascinating. You seem like a really smart guy. If I told you my dad died of Parkinson’s 5 years ago and then showed up at my door yesterday, would you believe me?
10-80-10 would be nice, but I really think it’s closer to 50-50. I’ve personally lost at least 50% of my family & friends due to the recent political division in this country. There’s just no way to talk to the “other side” these days. I really wish there was as I think we have more in common...
Agree that his followers / biblical authors really wanted us to believe Jesus rose from the dead. I think that invalidates their entire narrative. If they’re really really claiming to be truthful about that, then I can’t believe anything they say. To be a Christian I think the hill you have to...
Agree that in the end it doesn't necessarily matter. The Bible has some great teachings and stories (some not so great). You can follow the teachings without necessarily believing any of it actually happened. The same can be said for loads of fictional novels. There are some great life...
Exactly. How do we choose what to believe? For me personally, I use my common sense (things I know from my lived experience) and if I'm really not sure, I dig in and research it. I know from my lived experience that virgins don't give birth and people don't rise from the dead. Those are...
Earlier in this thread there was a lot of discussion on the veracity of the Bible. Which books were selected / excluded, which stories are meant to be literal / metaphorical, etc. Christians quote the Bible to make their arguments. "God said this, Jesus said that." "God wants this or that...
It will happen eventually. The time needed is inversely correlated with the amount of power the GOP has.
(BTW, I grew up religious and Republican. I've wised up and left both. )
Except I think it can be changed if he sends a copy of himself down here to Earth so he can sacrifice himself to himself, stay dead for a weekend, and then go back home. It's kind of a like a reboot that's a little easier on us than another global flood.
Yes, the example I gave was his top choice. It's out of state, which is why it's more expensive. He is now down to deciding between 2 in-state schools, but they gave even less in scholarship and so far, the same goose egg on financial aid. It just doesn't seem like all of his hard work in...
Well, yes, I was wrong on the above. Now that I am seeing this all play out, it's still bull####, but it's just a different flavor of bull####.
With an EFC of around $11,000, and the above need of $34,000, my son is getting exactly zero financial aid. He's been offered subsidized &...
