Just as an aside: Did Aperol spritzes exist 20 years ago?
I mean, yeah, I'm sure they existed - for sure in Europe. It's just that over the last five-ish years (ramping up a lot over the last two), I've been seeing A LOT of references to Aperol spritzes on e.g. reality TV and YouTube lifestyle...
While I liked his post, it was a long fleshed-out post. I didn’t co-sign every last word.
That said — in the context of a respectful intellectual discussion, “ignorant” is not a pejorative. Rock is coming from a good place.
The point demonstrated by Joe's Inc.com link was not that actual news coverage is routinely over-editorialized**. It was that in most online news -- and especially in new media that didn't exist before the popular Internet -- news and opinion are not sufficiently distinguished.
While most...
I caught that in the Washington Post piece, as well, and gave it a few readings.
The language is loaded to be sure. However ... somewhat to my surprise, it's not unfactual. It's just that someone worked hard to report the facts in as unflattering a manner as possible. Factual or not ...IMHO...
I was curious about how straight news print pieces would cover the Tesla layoffs. Here is a sampling, placed in a quote box to control length.
EDIT: The first, third, and fourth links below are paywalled, but the parts I quoted are publicly available without subscription.
For better or worse, Israel's War Cabinet is debating a response to Iran's attack -- this is a Live Updates page, so it will change eventually, but right now check out the 'What We're Covering' section at upper left:
I’m intrigued. Seems like a fun collaboration. Once this one wraps up, you can kick me your 20-30 disco songs. We can solicit input from @zamboni and @Uruk-Hai and any others who cares to nominate some songs.
The way I envision a disco list, I must warn the house, would leave at least some...
There are a lot of good tunes that are disco-adjacent, or proto-disco, or disco done by non-disco acts. I don’t think 100 good songs would be too big a lift.
Nice and funky, ain’t it? Yet faithful in its own way.
You know how I found that? Looking to see if Billy Joel ever covered “Bathroom” so I could Joel-roll @Uruk-Hai :D
Thanks for keeping this going, @krista4 and @Hawks64 !
Krista, I feel a little bad springing a Joe Cocker cover on you — a Beatles song yet. So now that we’re at the end, let me offer you and the house the same tune done in a way I think you’ll appreciate a lot more.
“She Came In Through The...
It’s a classic locally. I think most of the house knows this, but U2 and Green Day recorded this live during a pre-game performance in September 2006. It was the re-opening of the Louisiana Superdome after Hurricane Katrina, Falcons at Saints. Epic day in the city. Several local terrestrial...
Cloudy day in metro New Orleans. So even though we’re getting about 75% coverage of the Sun … there will be no cool crescent-shaped shadow effects or anything like that. Pretty much just seeing an ordinary overcast day :kicksrock:
