Blanton for 3 years was pointless compared to Lee even just for the 1 + picks. You're right about Blanton signing later, but Amaro has continually brought up the fact that re-signing Blanton necessitated trading Lee.- Golden Boy

It was a total brain fart by Amaro. He supposedly was in some weird window where he had to sign Blanton and trade for Halladay and sign Halladay and figure out what to do with Lee all at the same time. He seemed to like an additional guaranteed 2 years of Joe Blanton at $17 million than 1 year...- Golden Boy
