For me, that quote sums it up. You are responsible for knowing the rules. If you tell the commish, sorry I made a mistake and forgot to/didn't set my ADP list properly, I'd be inclined to help out. But giving a BS excuse about not knowing/understanding the rules is the number one reason for me...
Not that I've ever done this before, but I'd guess that you'd use Average Auction Values instead. http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2010/aavAnd the absent owner would bid that value (or the max amount of money they have left) for each player nominated.
I agree that you won't get anywhere near the value you probably should, so time to stand pat. I'm a believer (I traded for him this offseason) and this is dynasty so a longer term view is required.

1) Cap hits should always be required, otherwise managers will sign lots of sleepers/fliers and cut them during this "no cap hit" period to avoid future years salary cap consequences.2) Some players contracts will be up each year so a manager's salary naturally goes down.3) If the cap hit is...
12 team dynasty ppr.
Team A gave: Ryan, Matt ATL QB; Year 2010 Draft Pick 1.04;Year 2010 Draft Pick 3.04
Team B gave: Lynch, Marshawn BUF RB; Year 2010 Draft Pick 1.02;Year 2010 Draft Pick 3.02; Year 2011 Round 1 Draft Pick (probably 6-8)
Sticking with 12 also gives you some margin of error in case it's more than 1 or 2 teams that drop out in a year. Worse case then is you have at least 10 teams and then try to grow it back the following year. A dynasty league that has been running 10 years is worth a lot to keep going.
