In a non-flex, highly-competitive league I recommend going either WR/RB or RB/WR in the first 2 rounds. This gives you much more flexibility in rounds 3 and 4 to grab the best available player without having to worry about being short-handed at one of the positions.
It seems for every draft I'm selecting my first QB just fine, then during the draft I'm trying to catch a few minutes here and there to frantically determine who the optimal 2nd QB would be and who to avoid, if possible, due to bye-week issues, etc.

I use VBD and fbg projections to help with my draft list. Tweaked by my own thoughts on players and my league scoring rules. I also factor in the SOS quite a bit.
