This was beyond depressing. I watched it with a couple others before our Ireland trip and it was a unanimous decision to turn it off about halfway through. One of the worst movie experiences in a long time. :shrug:

I thought it had a good start with an interesting situation that just goes nowhere. By the end, I couldn't care less what was or wasn't said between the 2 main characters.
The scenes of the Japanese "culture" seemed over the top, too.

I thought that Promising Young Woman was excellent.
It's a crime that the Oscars went to McDormand/Nomadland over Mulligan/Promising Young Woman.
Nothing against McDormand but Mulligan's role required much more range and Nomadland was a snoozefest compared to the whip smart PYW.

I really enjoyed Midnight In Paris.
It also met the requirement for any fairly recent Allen film - he doesn't have a role in it, which makes it 100% better.
