One more for the winter lovers. The polar roll is a fat bike race, but also has a 15 and 30mi snowshoe race.

While I'm at it here are 2 other local races. One is "enhanced gravel" for you non mtb'ers and the other is a fat bike race on groomed snow. The fat bike race also has snowshoe races.

Your assessment is spot on though. The distance is hard, the total elevation is hard, but the technical aspect is the real challenge.
We like to think it's the hardest in the Midwest and should give any race in the country a run for it's money. "There's no free trail" meaning up hill or down...
It's actually not that bad in there. The real monster on this course is the final 20 miles. The hills, roots, rocks are absolutely relentless.
Eta. Not that bad is relative. It's very bad, just not to the level of the last 20mi
If he were to do it and you crewed for him and needed the preferred spots and locations for support you can hit me up and I'd be happy to offer way points or any other advice, where the easy parts are and where it gets pretty hairy. There's a few "official" aid stations, but it is represented...
VERY hilly, VERY rooty, VERY rocky. 12k ft of climbing in spurts of mostly say 100ft climbs or less give or take
Here's a blog post from a past runner from 2022.

This is a problem all over.
We just had a full ban placed on class 2 and 3 ebikes on the paths in our area and it is being enforced. No idea about the streets, but I'm guessing that's coming next, or atleast heavily enforced if it's already on the books.
Kids on these things are kind of a...
I ran for many years prior to taking up mountain biking full time and know this statement is true. For as dangerous as mountain biking is it doesn't compare to the everyday aches and pains from running. I did it all, gravel paths, blacktop, trails you name it and it beat me up pretty good...
I never did post a link to the race in here. Registration for 2026 will be in October if anyone is interested in one hell of a challenge.

If there's any ultra endurance maniacs in here i thought i would mention the Marji Gesick that takes place in Marquette Michigan. It's primarily a mountain bike race, but also has a few runs involved, the most formidable being the 100 (which is actually closer to 107, but who's counting).
The...
We had 64 sign up and I'm not sure how many actually started. Maybe i should post the race in the 10k thread aswell. If there's a few ultra endurance maniacs in there it might be right up their alley.
Here's an article and the paper contained in the article I had posted in another thread. I thought it painted an interesting picture on why we see an increased obesity rate in the developed world. It really shouldn't be surprising nor should a solution be a mystery (there can be a variety of...
Don't want to look past Cleveland this weekend and they have a great D so I'm happy to see the Oline appears healthy again.
Looking like Kraft is gonna miss this one and that sucks, but I'm interested to see what Musgrave can do as the man at TE. No Reed, no Kraft puts him in a good position...
