I do think it's something more like option 1. Having lots of players is better because it gives you more shots at production.
One way to look at it: if you have $3 available to spend, you could use it to upgrade (say) a $15 player to a slightly better player who costs $18. Or, you could use it...
3 weeks in, none of these guys are doing great. Two of them are at least in the top half of players at their position by PFF grade, Thuney (36/76) and Dalman (11/36). Gordon hasn't played because of his hamstring and the other 3 are in the bottom half: Jackson (46/76), Odeyingbo (79/115), and...
164.65 this week, 178 ppg through week 3.
I've started 19/30 players and $194/$250 salary. Trey McBride ($30) and Keenan Allen ($5) are my only every-week starters. Matthew Golden ($12) the only $10+ player who hasn't cracked my lineup yet, though Josh Palmer ($7) is looking like my worst...
I made a new spreadsheet with heatmaps of positional builds. See the cluster of the most common builds at each position, and the weird outliers.
(Not sure if it's better to orient them horizontally or vertically. I currently have rb both ways, and the others just vertical - if you like...
Looking at player pairs (complete data here)
37% of all rostered QBs are stacked with at least 1 WR or TE from the same NFL team (last year: 35%)
12% of entries stacked all of their QBs (last year: 12%)
The average stacked QB had 1.22 WR+TE teammates on the same roster, so stacks are mostly...
@Contest Turk sent me the roster data, so I've been able to add the ownership numbers to my spreadsheet - this year's player pool is at the bottom of the first tab.
The most-rostered players are:
52% RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt WAS $6
50% WR Emeka Egbuka TB $10
42% WR Ricky Pearsall SF $11
36% RB...
Boutte didn't make my 14-WR roster. If we didn't have the 30-player cap he would've made it - I was thinking cut Pearsall for Boutte, Turpin, Westbrook-Ikhine, Noah Brown, and another defense. Or maybe keep Pearsall and downgrade at QB instead.
Off to a good start, with 195.4 points week 1...
If you're spending big on a top kicker, you're mainly doing it for that late-season leverage. Bass starting the season on IR is actually the best possible scenario for his owners. He is already lightly owned despite being one of the best in the NFL because people were scared away by his price...
I've also added this year's player pool & prices to my contest ownership spreadsheet (they're at the bottom of the first tab), though I don't have ownership numbers yet
I stuck with this roster, so I'm badge eligible.
Roster: 30 for $250 (my 2015-2024 avg: 28.9 for $250) (avg across everyone's entries in last year's contest: 19.9 for $250)
I like big rosters with a bunch of cheap contributors who have a chance to produce each week, which also include a few...
I think that the main thing to consider here is: what are the chances that this guy will go for significantly more next year, if he's back in the auction again? (At least that's my take from thinking about the rules; I haven't played in contract leagues.)
If a player will cost basically the...
Stacking is definitely helpful for winning the contest, for basically the same reasons that it helps in DFS or big best ball tournaments. In the 3-week final you need a bunch of your players to hit big. If you have (say) Prescott+Jefferson, then you need two separate things to go right in order...
