  1. Lots of great trivia connected with this song. Eddie's guitar work was so incendiary that his solo LITERALLY caught the studio on fire. 🔥 👨‍🚒 According Rod Temperton, who wrote the title track to Thriller, a mystery blaze broke out in the control room as Eddie van Halen played his guitar solo. "Eddie was playing and the monitor speakers literally caught on fire," recalled Temperton to Q magazine. "The speaker caught fire and were all thinking, like, 'This must be really good, this solo!' That technicians had to race into the control room with fire extinguishers and put it out." By using Eddie MJ got a lot of cross over fans, Beat It is considered the one song that helped launch him to superstar status as it brought him so many extra fans that didn't listen to him previously. ------------------------- That unique/cool sound at the beginning? For those who guessed Synclavier you're right but I had no clue what a Synclavier is. From Music Radar: Anyone who knew their way around a Synclavier at the time probably thought the song's intro synth sounded familiar. According to the album's engineer, Bruce Swedien, it was a stock Synclavier patch. "Any Synclavier will make that sound," he told MusicRadar. "We liked it but we wanted everything to be unrecognizable, unique, so we didn't want to use that sound, but Michael loved it and made us keep it." --------------------- Oh and the album/songs were so popular it forced MTV to play black artists who had never been able to get songs aired on the channel prior to MJ.
  2. Moving right along, pay no attention to previous mistakes made in list. 29. Michael Jackson - Beat It Real bangers were used in the video. Since I just put Van Halen in as a sub its a good time to post a song highlighting Eddie's guitar work. Eddie thought he would catch crap for working on the song and thought no one would know it was him but word got out. Took only two takes. According to Eddie, he had the engineer restructure the song to accommodate his solo, then blasted out two takes. Jackson showed up after the second take and was thrilled that Eddie cared enough about the song to rework it. Eddie told CNN: "He was this musical genius with this childlike innocence. He was such a professional, and such a sweetheart." Michael came up with the tune after being challenged by producer Quincy Jones to come up with a song like the Knack's My Sharona.
  3. Ah, I thought I had them screened better than that. I don't see it on Tim's List DOH, its #13 Change this to everyone's favorite, sarcasm intended, of Van Halen's Pretty Woman EDIT: Yikes does that video suck even for bad 80s MTV standards, lol. Its a tune I used on my very first night as a DJ. Just a mistake on my part in not catching it on Tim's list.
  4. 30. Joe Jackson - Real Men Joe Jackson is either bi or gay and wrote this song Real Men that has been described as a Real Queer 80s song. Joe left interpretation of the lyrics up to the listener. "I think your average male has had his masculinity and supremacy threatened to the point where he's not sure what it is he's supposed to do. Intelligent, forward thinking, in the sexual arena, is being done by women. It's all about the way stereotypes have reversed, turned upside down and become meaningless." -- Joe Jackson 1982 MTV didn't give the video much air play so if you haven't seen it or don't recall the link has it. Powerful tune.
  5. 31. IceHouse - Hey Little Girl / Great Southern Land Double shot of classic early 80s tunes by under rated group.
  6. Analytic look at 18 'expert' grades combined and averaged for an over-all look how each team's draft graded out. -------------------- Michigan Football Analytics@mfbanalytics just what i wanted to see from @benj_robinson and @fboutsiders ! grades are cool to look at after the draft but they don’t predict anything for the future LINK to chart 📈 of 18 'expert' grades
  7. Matter of personal preference as I was looking for a spot for The Goodbye Look
  8. Last year our top pick was a slam dunk at an area of need with a blue chip prospect so his 'success' was expected. The top FA signing of OT Jack Conklin was also a slam dunk of a top FA talent at an area of need but he surpassed expectations. The buzz at this time last year was about the 'expected' improvement with 2nd year CB Greedy Williams and the addition of S Grant Delpit and then Delpit was the big news in camp. Didn't happen and the pass-D was the downfall of the team. This year the FO attacked the weakness just as they did with the sorry offensive line last year. Top FA signing of S JJ should be an instant starter. Top pick CB Greg Newsome should beat out Greedy to start opposite Denzel. The slot CB FA we got from the Rams looks solid and 'can' play the boundary if/when needed and 'IF' Greedy makes the team his strong suit is coverage. Then with Delpit, JOK, and the other DB we drafted its not wishful thinking that someone will step-up and make plays. Bottom line? Expect a HUGE improvement from weakness to strength with our pass-pro ala the HUGE improvement last year on our O-Line.
  9. 32. Donald Fagen - New Frontier I remember hearing an interview with Fagen where he mentioned the song was about the end of the world and living in a bomb shelter, something that was a big topic in the early 80s when the nut jobs at the Pentagon were seriously considering using tactical nuclear weapons against Russia, lol. Morons. Then the study about nuclear winter made the idiots reconsider. I was younger than everyone I hung out with in the early 80s so whenever I mentioned what this song was about I would get shot down because their was no Internet and no way to easily look things up so the 'older' crowd would use ignorance as a weapon to hold down anyone younger, lol. Now its about which source is used and attacking sources, lol. Fagen is just too cool with his lyrics and delivery and the song and album is a masterpiece.
  10. 33. Warren Zevon - Let Nothing Come Between You Warren Zevon was a favorite of David Letterman so when Dave heard Warren was dying and that he wanted to come on his show right near the end he chose this song to literally end his career. It was a heart breaking performance. Letterman wept. Dave announcing Warren Zevon's death This is a great tune.
  11. Browns This tweet says it all. --------------------------- mk@MKonSports if you’re having team problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems and a GM ain’t one --------------------------------------- Dan Orlovsky@danorlovsky7 The @Browns are a freaking problem with this new regime man. #NFLDraft2021
  12. 34. Santana - Hold On Tenth best selling single from the band was a cover from Canadian artist Ian Thomas. This was the most popular tune but I prefer another from the same album and have a bit later on the list.
  13. Geoff Schwartz@geoffschwartz Great situation for Hudson with Callahan Matt Miller@nfldraftscout #Browns continue to clean up. OT James Hudson was ranked No. 55 on my board
  14. If he makes the club I can see him being used in sub-packages but without looking it up I'd say the Browns incorporate more 12 and 13 personnel sets than any or most teams. They are built on the run game with lots of PA. The overall team is solid so I don't see a lot of empty sets being used. I'm sure Stefanski and his staff are drawing up plays for his unique skill set but in fantasy terms. 'These are not the droids you're looking for.'
  15. 35. Haircut 100 - Fantastic Day Its supposed to get up to 82 degrees with a nice warm breeze. Fantastic Day. How can you not like this song?
  16. Got another one. ------------------------ Sigmund Bloom@SigmundBloom Browns just keep winning --------------------------------------- Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero The #Browns are signing former Florida State DT Marvin Wilson to a huge rookie free-agent deal that includes a $30,000 signing bonus plus $162,000 in guaranteed base salary, per source. Cleveland won a swift bidding war for Wilson, one of the top players to go undrafted.
  17. Is he a RB/KR guy? They brought in a handful of RB/KR in pre-draft visits, does anyone know if this kid can return kicks? I hear they traded a 7th this year for a 1st next year. They made out like bandits.
  18. 36. Joe Jackson - Target Another nephew who lived in LA just told me a story about getting robbed at gunpoint which fit the current Joe Jackson song I had lined up.
  19. Browns gave to Detroit the 113th pick (4th round) this year in addition to the 257th pick (7th round) this year. Get the 153rd pick (5th round) 2021 this year Detroit's 4th round pick 2022 next year So for those wanting us to trade away surplus picks = Win!
  20. 37. The Police - Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Their were a handful of groups that vied for group of the early 80s, the Pretenders before death of two members got in the way, the Cars who quickly went pop, the MTV flavors of the week but the Police started hot at the end of the 70s and kept going and got better.
  21. Since we added LB/S/Rover JOK he needs to be covered and the only 'hole' we have carried over and not addressed is a true NT, someone who eats up blockers/space to cover 'rangey' LBers. The defensive coaches went right to work to scheme plays for JOK even before the pick was announced so he will see the field as a rookie and they have/are drawing up plans to use him. Makes sense to me that we address NT/DT since we have a 'hole' (especially if Sheldon Richardson doesn't return) and haven't addressed it 'yet' in the draft. I've got no names but think at some point we take a flyer on an interior DL and may lean more towards a true NT but definitely a DT before the end of today.
  22. Lamar Jackson attempted 376 passes last year down from 401 the previous year as his completion percent dipped from 66% to 64%. His TDs went down from 36 to 26 from the previous season and his INTs went up to 9 from 6. For comparison's sake Josh Allen's pass attempts went up from 461 the previous season to 572 as his completion percent shot up from 58% to 69%. HIs TDs went from 20 to 37 as his INTs went from 9 to 10. The Baltimore offense isn't built for a major overhaul from run based to a wide open passing attack. I don't think WR was a big need or will do much for that offense.
  23. 38. Fleetwood Mac - Can't Go Back Classic Fleetwood Mac sound. Classic Fleetwood Mac is an amusing statement as Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and Christine and John McVie were the 10th lineup of the band. Early 80s and Fleetwood Mac are hard wired in me and Buckingham's tune Trouble was in heavy rotation when I first moved to Colorado and had no furniture, slept on the floor but had a dinky clock radio that I still have to this day. The deep snow, the mountains, the valley. Certain songs/groups take you back to specific places and times. Can't go back but its nice to revisit.
  24. Got our deep threat. Make that got the new fastest player in the NFL. -------------------------- Ian Rapoport @RapSheet At No 91, the #Browns select #Auburn WR Anthony Schwartz who can absolutely fly. Maybe the new fastest player in the NFL. -------------------------- Just saw his forty time. 4.25 blazing 🔥 speed. >>>> VID LINK <<<<<
