  1. Finished Blood's A Rover last night. Next up, When Genius Failed, the story of Long Term Capital Management.
  2. I'm reading it now, I like it a lot. I like all Ellroy though, liked Cold 6000 as well.I've almost finished it. Definitely has some surprising turns.I've read a decent amount of Ellroy and never considered that he was an author with a real message, but I got thinking about what the true messages of the "American Underworld" trilogy are. Beyond being a conspiracy theorist's wet dream.
  3. I plan to power through a couple hundred pages this weekend and will let you know how it develops. I've only ready about 30-40 pages since posting the above, and it's still the same. I think how much you like this will track closely to how much you liked The Cold Six Thousand.Loved American Tabloid was kind of meh towards Cold 6,000OK - I can now recommend this book for Ellroy fans. Read up to about page 350 this weekend, and it definitely took off. I still miss Pete Bondurant from the first book, but Wayne Tedrow has become a solid character. Not as good as "Tabloid" - not much is - but definitely better than "Cold 6,000."It's on my list then. I just need to force myself to read the last 30 pages or so of The Road. Not really looking forward to the inevitable.American Tabloid was awesome. I liked the Cold Six Thousand better than you did, so I am pretty excited to read this. My recent reads are: The Black Swan -- Nassim Nicholas Taleb Fooled by Randomness -- Nassim Nicholas Taleb House of Cards: A Tale of Hubris and Wretched Greed on Wall Street -- William D. Cohan I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell -- Tucker Max The Road -- Cormac McCarthy The ending of The Road wasn't as sad as I expected. I am really not sure I got the book. Of course, I was never really good at interpreting novels and stories when I was in school, so that should come as no surprise to me. It made me want to hug my kids. Beyond that, it seemed pretty Nihilist to me. My best guess on a theme:
  4. I didn't know that they had cable TV and internet connections under rocks. Good to know.

  6. I feel bad for Bradford. Landry will be a good one for OU before long. The Sooner defense is salty. That game was exhausting.
  7. Says the guy with the chicken avatar :thumbdown:cuteI didn't even think of that. Just a phrase that shouldn't be said, really.
  8. She was also the female lead in Big Trouble in Little China.
  9. I am married and have no trouble getting it up, but I am never ready to go again in 15 minutes (more like 3 hours, minimum, usually). The one time I took Cialis I was ready again at full attention in ten minutes. And again the next morning. And again while I was filling up the gas tank of my car and my mind wandered a little bit. And again later that evening. And so on. And so on.My wife generally doesn't want to have sex more than three times in 36 hours, but if and when she does, I will be more than prepared. I definitely won't be taking any of them before discussing it with her though. It would be a waste.
  10. Just finished a nap in front of the Chik-Fil-A Bowl. I am probably going to do something crazy like play Stratego with my 8 year old son next. Maybe I'll watch a movie later, or do some Playstation. My wife is gonna go to a friend's house and have a few drinks.
  11. thats my guessThat is correct. That is the real Jay Landesman, and his horrible Baltimore accent is 100% real.
  12. I used to feel this way. When I was a kid, I always thought turkey was "meh" at best. Turns out my mom was overcooking it.Also, I have discovered that free range turkeys have lots more flavor than the average Butterball. I have done a couple of free range turkeys on the BBQ pit/smoker and they have been fantastic. I'm coming over to your house for Thanksgiving next year and no, I'm not joking. You know that you would be perfectly welcome. We could even probably find a cranny for you to sleep in.

  14. The cut is actually a rib roast or a standing rib roast, generally. The "Prime" part is usually a bit of a misnomer, as I suspect most rib roasts purchased at grocery stores are actually Choice grade.I am actually smoking a turkey and some sausage tomorrow, since we were in Hawaii for Thanksgiving and had burgers that day.
  15. I sear mine in a hot (450 degrees) oven for like 20 minutes, then take it out and put it on the Big Green Egg at about 300 degrees. Have done it twice using this method and it has gotten rave reviews.
  16. Nice going, Ace.Kids are with relatives. Going to a cocktail party with the missus. Walking distance away.On my first drink now. I'll be back later.
  17. I thought Season 2 was really interesting, although the general consensus is that it's the weakest season. Even so, it's still a lot more compelling than almost anything else, and you'll be able to follow the plot lines in 3-4 a lot easier.Agree. Season 2 was super high quality television, but I didn't like it as much as the other three. It did introduce a couple of very memorable characters though.
