  1. If you mean “Republican Party” then I agree completely. I don’t think the Republican Party has many conservative values any longer. They are not synonymous terms.
  2. Do you recognize the irony of describing conservatism as a fluctuating thing?
  3. I honestly am stupefied at use of the word ‘Conservatives’ in this thread. Who is this a reference to? I consider myself a conservative and have zero fear of any conservative political opinion I have being censored. The only censoring of true conservatives is being waged by the new retrumplican party.
  4. JMHO, Darwin awards may be causing you to read too much into the Darwin reference. I don’t think Darwin is a ‘deserve’ concept. It’s just cause/effect. People who go out into the rain without an umbrella will get wet. Not because they ‘deserve’ to get wet, but because that is the natural consequence.
  5. Maybe the Giants will trade the Vikes Will Hernandez and a 7th for a 6th.
  6. I was doing exercise biking and planks only Jan-March and honestly a little disappointed (other than resurfacing my abs). Since then I've added 75 push ups and arm weights to the workout, and it's more encouraging that progress is being made.
  7. Unfortunately, the only pharmacy with a searchable vax appointments tool where I am seems to have gone all in on Moderna (Thrifty White). CVS/Walgreens are a joke... all you see is no appointments available. Walmart was maddening searching for my 16 Y.O. in that you get to end of a maze and find out you aren't eligible (code for 'we only have Moderna' without saying that). It's like trying to buy a PS5. For Thrifty White, I can see 1800+ openings and each of its stores listed have only Moderna options. Was not the case 4 weeks ago when I found a Pfizer option for my 16 year old.
  8. I'm more curious on the capability. Most appointments that are accessible screen for eligibility (i.e. I was not able to make appt for my 17 year old until >16 was opened by our governor). Is it different in your state? Could you register a 3 year old?
  9. It was insane. Both me and the car I was passing came to screeching stops and managed to stay in our lanes. Out of my left periphery I see a 3rd car (who was attempting to piggy back pass behind me) sail past us both into the ditch and it somehow avoided rolling or hitting a tree. I agree not much difference 85/65 but I've gone from routinely passing 30+ cars on this remote 50 mile stretch (60 MPH) to maybe passing 3-4, and being content not passing when I find myself behind someone going 64+.
  10. I always sped and drove a bit aggressively until I had an "oh #####!" near major accident when a deer ran into the road when I was passing another car on a remote highway - kiddo in the back seat. I was 45 then and it changed me for good. I'll still pass cars going annoyingly slow but I no longer race to get places 6 minutes quicker than I'd get there driving safely.
  11. Best analogy for me is a highway and mix of sober/intoxicated drivers (who pose risks to themselves and others on the road). Vax provides an off ramp to a safe parallel highway. Personally, I'm getting myself and my family on that parallel highway. Anyone who doesn't take the off ramp needs to deal with nature and odds, and I guess that is their choice to live with. My reaction to reading future 'accident reports' will be 'it's a shame they made the poor decision to stay on that highway.'
  12. If they do this, whoever made the call to trade up to draft Love should be fired.
  13. ETA, I definitely got the real McCoy even though my nurse was a magician. I slept fine 1st night and nothing major for me day 2 unless you consider absolute lethargy and four 1 hour naps major. I probably had a low grade fever from 12-24 hours out. It was a lost day. Wife had more significant full body shivers night 1 and same 'nap day 2'. Both of us felt like new Day 3. 17 year old has pfizer #2 in 10 days. It would be great to go on family outings, but have to admit my instinct to celebrate is tempered. We'll still have a non-vaccinated 15 year old, and with that a strange new calculus.
  14. 2nd moderna earlier today. Didn’t feel the needle at all, and the thought even occurred to me that maybe it was some scheme and I did not get a shot. Minor lethargy and very minor arm pain kicked in later. Hard to imagine how my life changes in 2 short weeks.
  15. If I'm following the logic right, folks can't be forced to wear a mask because individual rights > risk posed to others, but other people can be forced not to vaccinate because an imagined risk to others > right to protect one's self?
  16. Only for people who choose to be PITA about trivial things. You compare it to wearing green, I place it above smoking indoors. I hope they make a pandemic movie about this for our children one day. Prior pandemic movies have clearly been farcical.
  17. I'm not saying it is right to incite, in fact I'm opposed without regard to which party. However I think there were some added facts on your comparable scenario (an actual storming of the US Capital). My main point is this friend said nothing at all about the Jan 6 inciting, which makes a 'how did we get here?' just a bit rich for me.
  18. Fanatical alt-right friend on facebook just ironically posted "How in the world did we get to a point where a public official can incite violence like this?" re: Waters. Yes, how indeed.
  19. So you think drunk drivers embrace the actual risk that they will take out a family? I don't. I think they want to get home, and believe they will. Suspect the risk they pose barely registers when balanced vs the trivial 'need' to get from point A to point B in the manner most convenient for them.
  20. JMHO, these folks just don’t want a world where being maskless is normal and not a political statement. Hell bent on dragging this thing out as a crusade. I welcome the day when everyone who wanted a vax has one, we get back to normal life, and the chips fall where they may. Maybe harsh, but for me, staring at 600K dead, the best analogy for these folks in terms of causing risk to self/others is chronic drunk drivers.
  21. You have a ratio of police presence by chance?
  22. Tangent: Really appreciate your post. I honestly don't know his degree of anxiety, as he's more open with the Mrs. He has a general checkup next week, and the admin called today and asked if there was anything we were concerned about, and I raised this (good timing). I'm going to tell him I mentioned to the Dr. office, and I want him to be honest and tackle this head on. Whether this is a generational phenomenon or something that has existed behind a curtain forever, it's not something to leave unspoken when there are possible remedies/alleviators. /tangent
