If any of you are interested in an angle, yesterday's Sweden/Spain tilt was played in energy sapping conditions in Sevilla as the temperature was over 90 f at kickoff.  That game kicked off at 9 p.m. local time.  The 6/23 Slovakia/Spain game is also in Sevilla, and kickoff is at 6 p.m. local time, temp may well be over 100 degrees at kick off.

 
Oh the joys of watching the Euro’s at work and having to deal with “soccer guy” who of course only watches the Euro’s and World Cup. 
 

me: f’n Ronaldo, of course he would be the all time leading scorer in the Euro’s.

work guy: duh, he’s the best. I bet Messi isn’t even close to his number of goals in this competition. me :rolleyes: , he googles and says “I don’t even see Messi in the top 10” and now he is all giddy and talking ####.

me: so Messi sucks because he doesn’t score in the Euro’s?

wg: well duh, you have to show up for the big games.

me: unable to drink at work I decide to not string this on too far and just blurt out it’s because Messi is from Argentina you dumb ####.

wg: so?

me: :wall:  this is the euros, not the euros plus Argentina. 
wg: oh, :bag:  

me: fml for the next month

You are correct in that most strikers take that shot. Strikers are taught to get in the box and 1) shoot, 2) take a guy on, 3) draw contact, 4) maybe pass.  And they were strong on target. 

But spinning and shooting into three defenders vs setting up Ronaldo for a sitter?

Eh, maybe…but I feel like that’s hindsight. He wasn’t rushed and had space…take it.

Maybe it is.  I'll have to watch again since he did look rushed to me which is why I don't think he see the passes....

Not knocking him really.  Most strikers take those shots most of the time. And if he passes and Bruno or Ronaldo miss, he gets asked why didnt you shoot. 

In a tourney with fine margins, sometimes a simple pass vs a normal shot can make all the difference.  In the end, its neither here nor there now.

This is all on Total Wine - they didn't have the Hungarian Liqueur I was looking for so no cocktail for game 1.

I have two for game 2 so I'll be collecting a point no matter the result:

  • Asbach Alexander - I went ahead and drank this during the Portugal match - delicious!
  • Sidecar - not a big fan but they are solid and crushable
Based on this I'm expecting a 1-1 draw.

 
If you had bet me a million dollars I would never have guess Muller is only 31.  I was about to ask if Germany don't have anyone better.  I think it feels like he's played forever because Germany normally goes so deep in tournaments that we've watched him a ton in the national team.

 
Is Kroos considered good at FK's?  I don't normally think of him taking them, but I don't know if anyone on DE is better.  

The two thus far have been rather pedestrian.

Fell out of favor for a while for club and country but had a renaissance season, playing great football.

Germany fielding their oldest team in 20+ years at over 28 years of age.  Muller been around forever, love him.
