NEW: WH releases new statement from Judge Brett Kavanaugh on @MichaelAvenatti client: “This is ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone. I don’t know who this is and this never happened.”

Sexual assault is not OK. Even if it's your friends who do it. Even if you agree with their politics.

Grabbing women by their genitals and kissing them without consent is sexual assault. Trump admitted to it in his own words.

You're living in a fantasy world.
Just because he said that doesn't mean he did it. Sometimes guy's like to talk. Trump has a huge ego but it doesn't make him a rapist.

Because there is absolutely no proof it ever happened.
Dem or GOP administration we’re not supposed to even be having this debate. Trump doesn’t vet well, this should have been a squeaky clean nominee like Gorsuch.

But hey maybe that’s why Kavanaugh didn’t make the Federalist Society's original list that Trump ran on.

It does seem he was somewhere a little behind Deion Sanders when they were handing out humility. At least he was ahead of Rick Barry.

He's been very effective opposing Trump though. Much more so than any of the Democratic leaders.
Rick Barry doesn’t get enough historical shade for being an arrogant **** and I’m glad to see you continue to fight the good fight.

Yes. I would also like to add that none of these allegations have been proven. It's best to spend more time observing and less time judging.
How do you expect them to be proven if all but two of the witnesses will not be called to testify and the FBI is not allowed to investigate prior to the vote being held?

Tough spot for committee Republicans, who were put in that spot by committee Republicans. They can

- withdraw the nomination (not likely)

- get Kavanaugh to withdraw (not likely unless pushed by others)

- vote on him in committee and the full house Senate (unlikely approval, large pre-election damage)

I'd guess he'll be pushed to withdraw. The longer this plays out the worse the Republicans look. He won't be approved to the SC.

Avenatti is a third rate lawyer who is good at making false accusations, like he did on me and like he is now doing on Judge Brett Kavanaugh. He is just looking for attention and doesn’t want people to look at his past record and relationships - a total low-life!

And I disagree with you all the time and yet I agree with almost all of this. This guy's view of investigating the president does not exist in a vacuum, the President (the right kind) is likely almost to be entirely unencumbered by the Constitution for him. Say the magic words 'national security' and it will likely fly. We've been seeing this generally with 1. travel ban, 2. the housing of children immigrants, 3. tariffs, and 4. federal employee benefits.
The ACLU did a pretty good rundown on him and I agree with their concerns.  It's like the confirmation hinges on the Blasey Ford stuff entirely, and I think he should be disqualified independently of that (although it is horrible itself).

Right.  I don't think he'll last through the end of the day.

That and the ethics issue. Agree.

I actually heard a political talk show host this morning say, in effect: "These are crimes being alleged, and the committee should not speak about them at all because they may become a criminal matter".  He did not mention wanting an investigation; he just wanted the talk to stop.

I file "nothing has been proven" comments in the "wants silence" bucket.

Because there is absolutely no proof it ever happened.
I was just listening to local talk radio on my drive and the callers unanimously agree with you: it's all a lie, all made up, all a smear job. Avenatti can't be trusted, etc. etc.

I fear that both you and those callers are engaging in some cognitive dissonance at this point. You want so badly to win this fight that you're making assumptions in your own mind.  You don't know this guy.  None of us do. There are people willing to testify that he is a bad man, and they're willing to do it under oath. The main guy who might exonerate him refuses to go under oath. You might want to consider this.

oh, it is the Twilight Zone alright.  Bananas.  But it sure looks like it happened.  More than one woman has confirmed it.  So many people are lying...but not Judge Kavanaugh!

This might be my new favorite own goal in a thread full of them.

How can be possibly think this was a good idea?  Is he so delusional that he legitimately doesn't think he wronged all those women?

I’m not an Avenatti fan. I think he’s been attaching his name to every hot button and just attacking Trump Trump-style, which I know some people love. But he kicked Trump’s ### in the Stormy case & he appears to have brought the goods here. I just hope he sticks to lawyering.

If he is forced to withdraw it's gonna be like a sugar high for the liberals. They will be super happy about that, but then super sad when they realize that another conservative is gonna take his place.

All three accusers have requested an FBI investigation into their claims.   That seems really, really unlikely if all three are lying.

Right.  I don't think he'll last through the end of the day.
That's what I thought up to a few minutes ago.

But look at Trump's latest tweet. He's doubling down again. He is not going to let Avenatti beat him, of all people.

I read Trump, Kavenaugh's "Twilight Zone" statement, the callers on local talk radio- I think the Republicans are going to be very defiant about this. Screw women.  Screw the midterms.  They're sticking with their guy.  (I certainly hope, for their sake, and for the country's sake, that I'm wrong about this...)

Any details on the newest accuser?  Like where she went to school and how she ended up at these parties?

These allegations seem incredibly fantastic. I'd like to know a bit more about the context that would place her at these parties before I conclude that she isn't a crazy person.

Were is Gloria Allred?

Limbaugh (in the car...) just ranted that this was all planned long ago and that the trap was sprung at just the right moment. Anything to protect the naked Emperor.

Tim - I just want a conservative on the Supreme Court, I have no vested interest in Kavanaugh.  It absolutely stinks like a smear job.

A conservative nominee is expected.  A sexual abuser (and proven liar) is not.

She graduated from a public school in 1980- it's some 25 minutes from Georgetown Prep. That's per MSNBC.

Technically, I think it has to be "No Retreat, No Surrender" Trump who has to withdraw the nomination.  Kavanaugh, can turn down the nomination, but I don't think he can "withdraw" it - since he did not make the nomination.

That's his inclination but what if more and more Republican Senators tell him they'll bail?  Edit: it only takes a few.

Fantastic?  Judge's ex girlfriend has already said that he told her about the drug-rapings.  It's a duck.

He won’t, look at the health care votes, torpedoes be damned, and GOP Senators can take the heat because he’ll blame them anyway.

I believe you. And there's nothing wrong with that.

But if it's a smear job, why didn't Gorsuch get all of these accusations? And why are these women willing to face perjury and death threats? As well as their lives never being the same? Just to stop Kavanaugh? Come on, you should know better than this.

Pull him and move on to the next guy. One without the baggage.

Trump wants a judge on SC that will support him on executive power. He feels a need, so he's not likely to let things work out slowly. Ending this nomination now, before it's defeated, actually speeds things up for Trump.

If we are being honest, pre #metoo movement an accusation like ford's probably doesn't even get talked about by democrats.

ETA: It almost didnt come out post #metoo

She went to high school in the area, had an internship with the University of Maryland in the Physics Department focusing on Optics, Lasers, and Holography, and attended community college studying Computer Science, Applied Particle Physics and Astrophysics, Advanced Mathematics, and Economics while the parties allegedly occurred.

Edit: Oh, and was pre-med, studying Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Genetics.

I agree, but how many nominees could share Kavanaugh’s peculiar view of Executive authority especially as to investigations?

Technically it only takes one, if that one is a member of the Judiciary Committee like Ben Sasse or Jeff Flake.

That's thanks to Doug Jones, by the way.  When the Senate was 52/48 the GOP was +2 in the committee, after Jones flipped Alabama the Dems got another seat. Just a reminder that every election matters, even if you're a progressive and your only option is a centrist :P
