🏛️ Official Supreme Court nomination thread - Amy Coney Barrett (5 Viewers)

This all comes down to Kavanaugh, IMO.
Do you think so?

He won't answer or recall anything difficult...he will deny most of it...Damone above said it best.  This whole thing was for 3-4 R's.  And likely based more on if Ford could sway them.

Talking about the manner in which she came to recall what happened, assuming that the process Mitchell stated is the best way to get a recollection.
Ford said she didn't know what the best process was. Is she supposed to be discounted because she didn't follow an unknown-to-her process?

How much can it possibly cost to administer a polygraph? Why are...some people...making it seem like this whole thing rests on this test somehow being paid for?

I might have wanted to hear more of what transpired in the room that fateful day. What, if anything was he wearing, or stripped down to?  Does she recall him saying anything, any blandishments or encouragements to give it up?  Did he call her anything untoward as she fled?  Did the little judge make an appearance and if so was it angry.  what was Judge wearing and did he disrobe fully or partially while waiting his turn?

Regardless I found her convincing and sympathetic.  I believe her, generally.  I would be hard pressed to convict on her testimony, but I would have no qualms denying this appointment based upon her testimony.

You are right.  He will deny it all.  We will see how he performs under pressure from the Dems.

Remember when Graham was a moderate. Man, the summer of 2018.
Yup. Like I said above, I think McCain was his moral compass. His father figure. And knew McCain would be disappointed if he became a typical Republican hack. Without McCain around, it didn't take him long at all to simply fall in line with the rest of them.

"This investigation should have taken place in August!"

...

"What would an investigation even tell us?"

Graham, like 30 seconds apart

No.  The point they are making is that if she was interested in finding a more complete truth, she could have done this interview, fbi notwithstanding.  I’m not saying I agree, but this is the spin I would make on this issue.

The polygraph was just a lead in to getting to her attorneys were not being paid by her. I imagine the next step will be the pr campaign to illustrate how well connected these attorneys are to democrats.

You guys just can't help from being inconsiderate and condescending.
Btw Graham also does this. He says Ford’s a nice lady with serious trauma but she’s not credible. If she’s lying - Graham’s implication - then he’s saying she’s a terrible person seeking to destroy someone’s life. So which is it?

He's turned into a typical GOP hack now. He was one of their best until McCain died.  It's like the good kid who becomes a criminal after their father dies at a young age. I guess McCain was his moral compass.
no....he's always been this.  you guys just don't listen  ;)

you won't answer, but it's worth a shot.

why not?

I'll answer for him

I answered a few pages back. Short version: the timing and convenience of the entire thing is jaw dropping.

The reason it's hard to argue this is because people are conflating Kavanaugh's guilt with such event happening. Along with the extensive background checks the government does for him to even be in this position is staggering.

We're talking 36 year old allegations that somehow slipped through the cracks. I'm not willing to bury a man's career and life accomplishments over something that can NEVER be proven.

We're hearing about something a 53 year old man was accused of doing at 17. Could it have happened? Maybe. But in the absence of any hard evidence, I'm going to take the word of a man who has shown to be a great citizen and judge for the past 36 years.

If you were in his shoes, I'd give you the benefit of the doubt, too.

His career isn’t being buried, just his promotion and the self respect of Republicans (if they had any after swallowing hook, line, and sinker what Trump is selling).

After what we've heard so far, how do they NOT demand Judge come before committee and testify?
The Senate conservatives would have to be more interested in the truth than they are in ramming a reliably ultra-right/alt-right vote onto the Supreme Court.

If only he'd been a great citizen and not a blind follower of the political party he chooses to aligns himself with.

I think Democrats could still screw this up, in terms of public opinion, if they go after Kavanaugh too aggressively and turn him into a victim.

What timing are you referring to?  The timing of discussing it with her shrink in marriage counseling 6 years ago or bringing it to her state representative before Kavanaugh was even nominated?
What was the proximity to the nomination? I would say last 6 months or so would be a red flag.

He used to be willing to speak out when he didn't agree with Trump.  He has a tiny resemblance of a spine and used to act like he genuinely cared about the country. That's all gone now.
He's always been all bark, no bite.  Does it really mean anything to :hophead:  and take zero action?  Is it a big deal to remove the :hophead: and still take no action?  This guy is who he is and that's never changed.

Hope it was worth it, Republicans. Blue wave.
