Louisville beat Savannah State by 61 points Monday night, 87-26. With five minutes to go in the first half, the No. 6 Cardinals led 29-0.

The blowout — it was the fewest points Louisville has allowed since 1947 — led to questions about Rick Pitino and the Cardinals piling it on against a lesser team. He did his best to prove that he wasn’t running up the score.

“I don’t like to see any team struggle like that, I really don’t,” Pitino said after the Cardinals improved to 4-0.

“I tried everything. We played four white guys and an Egyptian. We tried everything”

The “white guys” — Trent Gilberd, David Levitch, Dillon Avare and Matz Stockman — and the “Egyptian” — Anas Mahmoud — played a combined 34 minutes and Pitino closed the game with the three walk-ons (Levitch, Avare and Gilbert) and two 7-footers (Mahmoud and Stockman, who’s from Norway) in the lineup. According to The Associated Press, he went to the bench early in both halves of the game, which Louisville led 41-7 at the break, prompting forward Wayne Blackshear to say, “We thought we were going to keep them down to zero for the first half.”
Will Pitino take heat for this? I've only read it, haven't actually heard it. I'm sure it was meant to be tongue in cheek, but should he have said it?

The bigger question is why is #6 Louisville playing a team like Savannah State? Is this a pay for play deal like in College Football?

The statement is actually praising black people by suggesting they are very good at basketball (which they are). I don't see why anyone needs to be up in arms over this.

Lt. Frank Drebin: Hector Savage. From Detroit. Ex-boxer. His real name was Joey Chicago.

Ed Hocken: Oh, yeah. He fought under the name of Kid Minneapolis.

Nordberg: I saw Kid Minneapolis fight once. In Cincinnati.

Lt. Frank Drebin: No you're thinking of Kid New York. He fought out of Philly.

Ed Hocken: He was killed in the ring in Houston. By Tex Colorado. You know, the Arizona Assassin.

Nordberg: Yeah, from Dakota. I don't remember it was North or South.

Lt. Frank Drebin: North. South Dakota was his brother. From West Virginia.

Ed Hocken: You sure know your boxing.

Lt. Frank Drebin: All I know is never bet on the white guy.

[Nordberg nods in agreement]

what if this was college hockey and his squad was beating the tar out of the other, and he had said “I tried everything. We played four black guys and a Spaniard. We tried everything.”

there would be outrage, right?

I am outraged by the comments. I demand the resignation of both the Louisville coach and the Kentucky coach and both be replaced by Egyptians, a vastly under-represented minority in basketball.

I'm sure people will be outraged
Apparently the media at the press conference laughed it off. I was a little shocked when I read it. Not so much at the context (it actually is funny), but more that he actually said it in times where people can perhaps be a little over sensitive.

He's also kind of saying "What do you want I tried to put my crappiest players out there, and they still couldn't cut into the lead."

Who are you calling oversensitive?!? I find that offensive! :hot:
people...not you.
Oh. Then I agree. I hate those people.

The Spanish are actually quite good at basketball, but carry on.

I'm OK with it, but I bet Alaa Abdelnaby is outraged.
When he was on the Celtics, he got busted for weed, as did Robert Parish in a separate incident. They were friends off the court, and the other Celts used to call them Chief & Chong.

Thought I'd share that.

Why is it OK to demean "whites"?
Because blacks are oppressed by whites via institutionalized racism and therefore we deserve all slights, great and small, that come our way. Tim, did I get this right?

Are they good at hockey?
They're giving it their best shot:

People are really questioning if Pitino will catch heat over this? Come on, it is not like he cheated on his wife, got the woman pregnant and then paid for her abortion.

The refs were giving Mahmoud a really hard time in this game. The guy got called for travelling four or five times. The only explanation I can come up with is that he walks like an Egyptian.

I'll show myself out now.

Barely even remember that story. Must not have lasted long..

Do people usually take heat for saying something offensive about white people?
