⚽ Soccer Match-day Thread (10 Viewers)

Dear FutbolGuys,

When I say I'm going to stay up till midnight to watch a game involving Mexico, remind me of these last 2 games.

Gracias,

Christo

I was just peaking at some box scores while waiting for the US game to begin.

Looks like Atlanta had a dream start against Chicago tonight.

4th minute: Give up goal

7th minute: Give Up goal

11th minute: Red card, down to 10 men

13th minute: Give up goal

Now that's how every coach dreams he gets his team ready for a game....de Beor might have a word or two at halftime for the lads...

Hakim Ziyech hit the post on a PK in the 4th minute of 2nd half injury time.

Benin and Morocco are going to extra time in the first AFCON knock out game.

Five goal thriller in Alexandria between the Super Eagles and Indomitable Lions.

Currently 3-2 Nigeria with 20 minutes to play but there's probably a goal or two left.

Nigeria-Cameroon ended 3-2.  The Super Eagles advance to the quarterfinals eliminating the holders.  Another tough match awaits; they'll face the hosts on Wednesday if Egypt takes care of Bafana Bafana later today.

Egypt a prohibitive favorite for that one - they have yet to be scored on, while SA been blanked twice ... surprised the money line is only  -190

South Africa shocks Egypt with a late winner. The Pharaohs are out.
Sweet.  Here's hoping Senegal get KOd while Mane is one piece.

Additional off-topic observation:  Senegal's flag is top-5 worldwide.  Love those colors and the tri-color with a single star.

Messi went off on the refs after the Brazil game.  Not surprised to see him tossed here.
I don't think I have ever seen Messi so enraged in his entire career.  He went off again today saying he would not go to the medal ceremony because of the corruption.

When you think of the non stop constant fouling he has dealt with for all these years, it is amazing this was only his second red card of his entire career (and a ridiculously soft one at that).

Can you imagine how many red cards Jozy would have with his petulance if he suffered even a 10th of what Messi has?

Yikes, what a mess.  No way that should have been a red...so maybe Messi hit too close to home.

more crazy weather issues as NY has had flights cancelled due to weather

MLS Buzz‏ @MLS_Buzz

Holy cow. Red Bulls play Atlanta United tomorrow at 2 pm on national TV (FOX) in front of 70k fans, and they’re not going to be in Atlanta until mere hours before the game. Unbelievable.

I think I’ll comment on the women’s final in here, the other thread is painful with all the “only watch soccer once every 4 year” crowd

Madagascar's Cinderella AFCON run continues against DR Congo at the top of the hour.  DRC advanced to the knockouts because of the 24 team format but Madagascar benefited from the larger tournament to qualify in the first place.

ya know, i run a Kentucky Derby thread every year ... i usually start in January, when the no d1ck third rate prep races are being run ... maybe 4 people contribute - Wik, EG, Hoard and Cowboyfan.

then Derby week rolls around in May, post positions are drawn that Wednesday - and then there is a huge influx of folks poking around - asking how to bet, how to structure their exotic tix, etc.

and we all assist as best we can ... we've been fans for all our lifetimes, and we know how to make money on these races.

no one is ever talked down to, nor condescended to - no one complains about the once a year horse players - we welcome their involvement.

seeing your quasi-elitist edict is very uncool - both sports (citing the women's soccer here) are niche, at best, and can use all the attention they can muster.

It’s not what it is, it’s listening to a guy spout off the know it all in the thread about how poor players are and have been when he’s probably watched only this game.

fair enough.

but, yeah - it's turned me into a fan - actively studying and wahering right now - the gamblers don't know what they're missing ... and i am loving the sport a lot more, from an aesthetic standpoint

That guy sucks for sure. The dudes who have to relentlessly hammer home how much better men are are just the worst, and most insecure. It’s gross.

Like 15 people in that thread have linked to some quasi-exhibition game between some men or boys team and the USWNT. Imagine being that insecure.

Those 15 examples aren't about being insecure at all.  It's making fun of a ridiculous question that always pops up much like the best college football team vs the worst NFL team.

Weird stance you're taking here.

Quite a few of those were just oddly posted with no question about who would win. Today was an exception.

I hope you show up tonight for the US Mexico.

Hopefully there will be an over under on how many "Puto's" the Mexican fans scream  :)

Do you think you can bring your betting to EPL games this fall?  That would be fun to read on a Saturday morning.  Lots of knowledgeable posters on the EPL (not me unfortunately).

will be eyeing tonight's final, yes ... as far as the EPL, i've been cleaning up with MSL past week or so - the 'both to score' prop has been golden, so, yeah - i may go totally off the fake football (NFL) :D and just concentrate on this gig

Is sports betting a full time gig for you, or is it just a heavy hobby?   I am very jealous :)  .  God put all my addictions into gambling so I have to stay away and live vicariously through good folk like you.

it feels like a full time gig, especially when 'capping the bullring tracks - the ponies are usually 80% of my action, but i've kinda shelved it the past month to concentrate on the footy - made and lost close to $8,000 the past month, but, with today's USWNT hit, i'm up $1,080 - got my feet wet, made some mistakes, learned how to best leverage the 'live bet' options, etc - i'm hooked.

i'm self employed, doing well enough where my partner and i have taken on 3 extra bodies to alleviate some of our load, so i get plenty of free time during the day to 'cap or brush up on potential team sport wagers - usually while in transit - i never drive, 'cuz i enjoy cocktails on the reg - so i make hay on the trains, in the Ubers, etc.

will contribute mostly when i have wagered, but watching the matches will become crucial to me honing my instincts on this here endeavor - expect to see more of me, yes ...

Glad it's brought you in- it's a fun sport.

I'm not at all interested in the gambling comments so just skip over most all of your posts- no offense.

Eta... And maybe now, finally, people might start gambling on the most popular sport on the planet. Would be about time, really.

Andy brought up that it's a cliche- how somebody does it every women's WC. That link was then posted proactively in response.
