⚽ Soccer Match-day Thread (4 Viewers)

I think Jesus has had a very effective game - much more defensive than I would have imagined, but he has worked hard.
I started to make a similar comment earlier. He always impresses me with his work rate. But for whatever reason he doesn't score much. It seems he's better suited as a winger

And how was that not a pen?

753 - Manchester City completed 753 passes in their win over Manchester United - the most any team has completed in a Premier League match against the Red Devils since the 2003-04 season (when Opta began recording pass data). Olé.

I don't think Spurs have had 753 passes in all games this year...

Similar dynamic in this one!

I can't really pull for the Pistons, but I don't want Chelsea to get three points either.  Watching Tuchel put it straight in Dyche's face after the goal was a nice bonus though.

I was half-watching the Chels game. thought to myself nothing like the City game, since its been at least somewhat competitive. and Burnley playing like they want it more. neither of those were on display earlier.

Burnley tie things up at Stamford Bridge on just about their only attack of the game.

Massive win for RBL and Jesse Marsch.  He lives to fight again.
Is he really in trouble?

I haven't followed the situation closely but after a really rocky start, they have been playing pretty well of late and are up to 5th in the table. And while they are flaming out of UCL, that group was always going to be the death of them.

After losing 3 of their first 4 in the Bundes, they haven't lost since (Bayern on September 11th). Not sure RBL's expectations but it would seem he's okay now.

agreed - yes.  I'm just spouting off, don't really follow the Bundesliga all that closely.

Is there a less likeable EPL player than Richarlison?
what I really appreciate about Richarlison is his all around villain game. He's not one-dimensional

Cheap shots and provocation? Like a young Diego Costa, we can only hope that, like Costa, he ages like fine wine. It may be too much to ask that he achieve legendary status like Pepe, but it's not for lack of effort

Histrionics? I mean he's truly one of the greats. He effortlessly strings one risible performance after another.

Serial diver? He's no Raheem Sterling or Ashley Young, but the guy has talent

Hand gestures to complain about every foul no matter how obvious? Maybe a smidge behind Ander Herrera but he would fit right into the early 2000s Italian national team

General surliness and volatility? as RHE mentioned, no Joey Barton, but you can't deny the innate talent here and he's still mid-career with, I think, a real chance to improve

Dream start for the RBs at Nashville- 2nd minute goal.

RBs need a tie to advance to the playoffs.
and this is missing 2 key starters- Klimala and Duncan

eta: Muyl- my Lower East Side hood legend and RB product now plays for Nashville... I didn't know.

Race to clinch a postseason berth

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Only three spots remain for six clubs: Atlanta (48 points), Orlando (48 points), New York (47 points), CF Montréal (46 points), D.C. United (44 points) and Columbus (44 points).

New York and Atlanta failed to get the win that would have clinched their place on Wednesday after the two teams played out a goalless draw at Red Bull Arena. Montréal, meanwhile, kept their hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Houston, meaning it all comes down to Decision Day.

Atlanta are best-placed of the six, needing only a point at last-placed FC Cincinnati to be sure of making the postseason. In a winner-take-all matchup, Montréal will host Orlando City. If there's a winner, they're in; if it's a draw, Orlando will make it at Montréal's expense. The Red Bulls travel to second-placed Nashville needing at least a draw to be sure of making it in. Both Columbus and D.C. need to win and hope that other results go in their favor in a big way.

WESTERN CONFERENCE:

Five teams fighting for three playoff places: Minnesota (48 points), Vancouver (48 points), LA (47 points), Salt Lake (45 points) and LAFC (45 points) are still in the mix.

After LAFC and Vancouver drew 1-1 on Tuesday, the Whitecaps need only a draw on Decision Day to be sure of making the playoffs, while LAFC need a win and some help elsewhere

Real Salt Lake's 3-1 home defeat to the Portland Timbers on Wednesday means they missed the chance to clinch a playoff spot with a game to spare and are now on the outside looking in and needing a victory at Sporting Kansas City on Decision Day. That result also clinched Portland a top-four spot.

NY and DC have 13 Wins

ATL, MONT and ORL have 12 Wins

MONT goes through if: they win and one of ORL or NY loses. They tie and NY loses by 2 goals or more, unless DC wins by 5 goals or more.

DC goes through if: they win and NY loses and MONT ties or loses.

COL goes through if: they win, NY, DC and MONT all lose AND the results between NY and COL overcomes a 7 goal GD currently between them (NY +6, COL -1) (there are other options with DC and MONT tying and overcoming GD)

DCU started the day with less than a 10% chance of getting all the results they need, and are now up 3-1, with Montreal losing 0-1.  If United hold on and Montreal don't come back and win, they're in (I think).

I think they are still out.  Live table shows them currently in 8th.

City have an amazing capacity to turn games boring. It's hard to believe this is a derby. Just feels so lifeless in the 2nd half.
Both teams played the 2nd half like they were up 2-0.

I am getting tired of the same players being run out there with no consequences for poor form, esp when you finally have depth and game changers on the bench.

Maguire needs to sit.  Fred needs to sit.  Shaw probably too.  And this back 3 or 5 means you are sitting all your attacking talent.

Give VdB and Sancho a run.  McT holding.  I do not understand how you run out the same team game after game and hope they do something different.

Auto starters like Maguire dont worry about playing well because they will never get sat.
Subs dont play well because no matter what they do they will still be on the bench the next game.

Ole has made the players bigger than the team and eliminated competition for playing time.
