Odds they're drawn into same "path"?

On 26 November 2021, the 12 teams will be drawn into three play-off paths for one-off semi-finals and a final. The three path winners qualify for the World Cup.
oof- so only 3 of those teams make it?

Twelve teams will advance to the play-offs. Unlike previous editions, all participants will not be decided solely on the results of the first round. Two of the twelve spots will be allocated to group winners of the 2020–21 edition of the UEFA Nations League.[2]

Second-placed teams (all ten advance)[edit]

The ten runners-up from the UEFA First Round will advance to the play-offs. Based on the results from the qualifying group stage, the six best-ranked teams will be seeded, while the bottom four will be unseeded in the semi-final draw.[3]

Portugal, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Poland, Wales, N Macedonia, Turkey, Finland

plus... Austria and Czech Republic.

Should be Portugal, Italy and Sweden.

But won't be a cake-walk and wouldn't be surprised to see one or all dumped.

Unlike previous editions, the play-offs will not be contested in two-legged ties. Instead, the twelve teams will be split into three play-off paths, each containing four teams. Each play-off path will feature two single-leg semi-finals on 24–25 March, and one single-leg final on 28–29 March 2022. The winner of the final in each play-off path will then qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.[2] The semi-finals will be hosted by the six best-ranked runners-up of the qualifying group stage, while the host of the final will be determined by a draw.[3]

The play-offs will be played in single-leg knockout matches. If scores are level at the end of normal time, 30 minutes of extra time is played, where each team is allowed to make a sixth substitution. If the scores remain tied, a penalty shoot-out is used to determine the winner.[4] Following approval from the UEFA Executive Committee in December 2019, the use of the video assistant referee system was approved for the entire World Cup qualification tournament.[2]

Italy 4

Portugal 8

Sweden 17

Poland 23

Czech 31

Austria 32

would be 6 highest ranked (Russia 33, Turkey 39 for comparison) to be seeded.

Non-league Stockport County have defeated Bolton Wanders 5-3 in round 1 of the FA Cup, with two goals coming aet. Hope the boys don't celebrate too much this evening, as most surely have day jobs to report to tomorrow morning. On to round 2 Stockport!

I love the FA cup.

a former college teammate (english) progressed pretty far in the FA cup in the early 90s with essentially his pub team.

Watford had a penalty shot that was saved then scored on rebound. But Watford was called for encroachment and had to retake penalty ... and that was saved.

the encroachment rules are strange

:lmao:  Ole high fiving Maguire on his way off the pitch after a red card sums up his reign at United for me.  Not that the Glazers give a #### but I’m checked out until he’s gone.

Has to be obvious by now that the players don’t believe in him and aren’t playing for him. He’s lost the locker room and has to go - I don’t take joy in it as he’s a club legend but it’s over for him.

Welcome to how Milan fans have felt over the last 8 yrs. Inzaghi and Gattuso at the club managing but over for them. They were more in over their heads and Gattuso I thought deserved another year. Neither one lost the locker room. But it sucks seeing club legends fail at the club as Managers and stuff.

I was at that game, it was mental, and impossible to get a beer in the ground as it was that busy.

More teams than not at that level will be fully professional fyi

Holy Crap Newcastle scored 3 TIMES TODAY!!!!!!! We also did Newcastle things and allowed 3 goals so still winless in the league but we got a point!!!!!!! Hey it's improvement  :pickle:

Would have won with Dubravka. Have to assume he’ll get the next start.

Was on the Black & White Newcastle Facebook group page ironically on Friday and saw a post where someone had a photo with Dubravka. Said when he ran into him he had thought he'd be in the IV today. Take it for what it's worth though.

I felt the same way watching Koeman struggle at Barcelona.  His #4 was the first Barca jersey I owned and he scored the goal that gave the club their first Champions League title.  It was shameful to see fans attack his car after the Clasico.  Even if he wasn't a very good manager, the guy is a bona fide club legend.  Hopefully Xavi doesn't suffer the same fate.

Probably sounds crazy given how they've been utterly filleted in the 2nd half, but through about 50 minutes I thought Arsenal looked pretty good -- tight.  The keeper kept them in it, but Arsenal did a lot right until the 2nd goal.  Now the wheels have come off, but maybe not surprising with such a young team.

The 3rd and 4th goals for Liverpool were a feast to watch.

Jakob ####### Glesnes DOES IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!! UNION THROUGH!!!!!!!! GOAL IN 122' min from long range!!!!! Union are through to the 2nd round of MLS CUP!!!!!!!!

I realize I’m singularly focused and not much of a value add to this thread, but 18-year-old Afena-Gyan with two goals for Roma, including a beautiful shot during the last seconds of extra time.

Getting that out of the way.  No clue how anybody enjoys watching NYCFC home matches.  Even before they scored I was zoned out and wanted to switch to the KC-DAL game.  That is just horrible football to watch - there no spacing, no rhythm - it’s comical.

Makes me actually angry going to that stadium to watch soccer. Not a good seat in the house. It's horrible.

Great day watching the Timbers eliminate the Loons today. Had three generations on hand for it, as my dad was in town so he went with to his first-ever soccer game at the age of 80 with me and his grandson.

United win 2-0 over Villareal.  Didn't get to watch, maybe that's a sign?

VdB and Martial started. Ronaldo and Sancho score.

I believe that books their place in the knockout rounds since Villareal and Atalanta play each other meaning one goes through and one goes to Europa.

In 2007, WVU's football coach, Rich Rodriguez, bolted for Michigan just before the Orange Bowl game vs Oklahoma.  On January 2nd, WVU came out on fire and crushed Oklahoma 48-28, under interim head coach Bill Stewart.

Stewart was hired on a full-time basis on January 3rd, leading a friend to comment "It's like marrying a girl the morning after a one night stand."  Sadly, Bill Stewart and WVU were soon divorced.

No idea why I thought of that just now.

I was way wrong on Thiago.  Did not think he'd be worth the bother.  Been fantastic watching him play.
I thought it was a great bit of business by Chelsea- had always been a fan of his. But I expected spot starts due to his age- he's been a lynchpin of the defensive line.

and that clearance was amazing.

CP has been pretty poor today though
