✈ 2015 NEW YORK JETS Thread (1 Viewer)

I really, really hope that Dan Quinn doesn't end up going to the Broncos now. Although having Quinn head to Denver and then becoming a great coach would be the most Jets outcome ever, no?

I think gase is a good bet for that job, my guess is elway pushed for this to get another year out of manning to give gase his best shot...

I'd be happy with Bowles or Quinn....

According to Mike Francesa, Charie Casserly had a plan to go for a Maccagnan/Marrone combo, but Woody did not get a comfort level with Marrone during interview. Ironic that Marrone might have left Buffalo thinking he could get Jets job, which opened the door for Rex to get a new job, while Marrone may not have one now.
Marrone may have to make that buyout last.....i would have thought he had a job in the bag to leave buffalo..just glad hes not coming to jets...still quinn or bust..can see kubiak or gase in denvee

I only post from my phone. Half the time I see an empty space. The other half of the time I see the jet. Good? Bad? Should I remove it?
Definitely keep it. It pops nicely.
Even as someone who hates the Jets, this is first rate and should be kept

-QG
I'll still never get why someone hates a team then parks at their board.. Not like it's even a rival board. It can only to be a DB...

But, ok...... If that excites you... It makes it all funnier to me that it's a Bungles fan....

Rumors leading to Bowles today??? I was ok with Bowles, Quinn, Kubiak from the start in any order so, all good so far here...

Only Doug Marrone can hurt me.....

My fear is that the Jets have been willing to wait on Quinn knowing they have Marrone as a backup just in case the music stops and all these guys go elsewhere...

QG is good people. Rather have him here than not. Knows his stuff.

That aside, I love the new thread. The jet icon is definitely a keeper. I can feel the Super Bowl comin'!

Count me among those who want Quinn, but that's going to have to wait for after the SB. I could be wrong, but I don't see Seattle losing to GB at home.

He's a Parcells guy - was the Jets as a DBs coach for a brief time. Took over as interim HC in Miami after Sporano was fired and the team played hard for him, finished the season 2-1.

Who knows, but he's been around, is respected and could probably cobble together as good coaching staff.

I prefer Bowles to Quinn. Look at the Arizona defense this year. They lost some talented players and still were what kept them in every game. Seattles defense is stacked with talent. I have more faith in Bowles doing more with less

Get a lot of coverage of your team - and generally it's an interesting one. Honestly all of the coach-search threads are interesting this time of year.

Thanks :)

It does look like you guys have gotten yourself into some good finalists this time around and at least you've gotten GM straightened out first.

Does Denver worry you guys about upsetting the applecart at all in terms of Quinn?

I'd be kind of disappointed if Quinn doesn't get the gig, especially with the possible Shanahan OC position. But I definitely understand if the Jets make a strong push Bowles, which I'd be cool with. They can't afford to sit around and watch other teams fill their HC positions and get "stuck" with somebody. Marrone would be an absolute disaster.

I like what Bowles did with the Arizona d this year, also like the fact that he had a cup of coffee as a hc already.

Quinn or Bowles, it's all good. Can see them wanting to lock down Bowles as Quinn's options just got a lot more dynamic with Denver, sf and Atlanta all interesting landing spots...

Bowles is my top choice but Quinn will be fine too. If the Jets are not careful, then they will get neither and have to settle for some other guy.

Hmmm. Seems like Casserly really pulled the strings on this. I've read some mixed things on Mac so only time will tell. My gut is telling me that this won't end well.

There seems to be a weird rule about interviewing Quinn. Apparently if the Seahawks advance to the Super Bowl teams can interview him for a second time between that game and the Super Bowl. The issue for the Broncos is that they have not had a chance to interview him for the first time since they were still playing so technically the next interview is only their first interview with him and would mean that they are not eligible to interview him that week

Weird rule but would be good thing for the Jets if it were the case

In all seriousness, you guys do not want Marrone.

That said, the Bills-Jets "rivalry" has been rather lifeless for a long time, and it would really liven things up if we swapped coaches. This kind of needs to happen.

The Jets have canceled their head-coaching interview with Panthers DC Sean McDermott.

This could be taken as a sign the Jets and Cardinals DC Todd Bowles have agreed to terms on a contract to make Bowles the next head coach for Gang Green.

that is a good sign....Francessa was raving about Bowles all afternoon...liked all I heard excep possible Chan Gailey as OC!

Glad to get Bowles. Quin was interesting but you can wait and potentially end up with your 3rd or 4th choice.

Now let's find a decent oc

Yes! Bowles is the choice. I haven't been excited like this since Belichick and Parcells were brought on board 18 years ago.

agreed...looks like a great day for the jets hiring a solid gm/coach.....see lots of cursing from other teams on losing out on Bowles...he picked jets over a lot of great teams!

@RapSheet: Look for Chan Gailey to be the new OC for newly hired #Jets coach Todd Bowles, which is an intriguing choice.

Looks like folks are having fun updating Bowles wiki page.

New York Jets[edit]

On January 13, 2015 Todd Bowles signed a multiyear contract to become the New York Jets head coach. He then realized he was coaching the Jets and retired to peruse he real dream of selling hand made belt buckles at state fairs. And it was good.

New York Jets[edit]

On January 13, 2015 Todd Bowels signed a multiyear contract to become the New York Jets head coach. Seconds later, He removed his mask to reveal himself to be Professor Max Payne-Rosenberg sent from the year 4231 to stop the Evil mutated carrots from destroying the earh.

New York Jets[edit]

On January 13, 2015 Todd Bowels signed a multiyear contract to become the New York Jets head coach. In the contract, it states that, for the 4 years, he agrees to have 4-12 seasons. This poor talented man will not have another chance to challenge top teams until the 2019 season

New York Jets[edit]On January 13, 2015, Bowles agreed in principle to become the 18th Head Coach in New York Jets History. He was fired seconds later for not living up to expectations. But it's not his fault. The Jets are just horrible. They Haven't been good since the 60s. Hell, the last time the Jets won the Super Bowl, Richard Nixon was President.

I'm not doing cartwheels over the Gailey news.
I am not either but he is way, way better than Heimerdinger, Schottenheimer, Sparano and Mornhinweg.Edit: removed my speculation on Cardinals coaches Caldwell, Buckner and Ross going to the Jets. I would need more info on their contracts before commenting on the situation.

Interesting move for the Jets. Don't hate it at all. I might have preferred Quinn, but I'm excited to see what Bowles has to offer. As for Gailey, I don't mind him being hired as an OC at all. I know he led the wave of the pistol offense coming to the NFL; he's generally thought of as pretty creative so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. On a side note, I kind of like that the GM and coach are both Jersey guys. I know it doesn't make any real difference, but it's kind of cool.

The proof will obviously be in the pudding when the games start, but I also like the moves so far made by team brass.

As somone mentioned, I could also see Spiller being signed to replace Chris Johnson and up the rivalry between the Jets and the Bills.

For the longest time, I thought Spiller was just being wasted. This past year, it seemed to be pretty clear that he just isn't any good (before he got hurt).

If he comes cheap, fine. But when you consider how easy it seems to be to find complementary speed backs in the draft, I wouldn't be down for any significant investment. The Jets obviously have a lot of other needs.

Give me a right guard, a corner and an actual safety who can cover. That would be a start.

OK, 1st steps are in place. I am happy with Bowles and agree as mentioned above, waiting for Quinn may have left us with some scraps at the bottom of the barrel.

Now baby jesus lets get us a QB.

Rock solid choices by Woody give me some hope for 2015.. a personnel guy hired for GM and a HC who uses his personnel and bends his system to the personnel, not the other way around, gee, i wonder what that will feel like watching?

Loved what Bowles did with Arizona D this year, enjoyed watching them play and hope he brings that adaptability to the entire team.

Great Start to 2015!

While he wouldn't be a long term asset, maybe they bring in Ryan Fitzpatrick as a stop gap QB. He had some success under Gailey and is serviceable still. Even if Mariota falls to them, they would probably be better off going with a veteran for one season instead of throwing a young QB to the wolves.

I really just can't watch Geno for one more season - especially in a pistol type offense. While his athleticism may thrive in it, his inaccuracy, poor decision making and frequent mistakes obviously would not.

I wouldn't mind them keeping Casserly around as a Team President or VP of football operations to oversee things for a year or two. He could be a good sounding board for contract negotiations and salary cap ramifications plus be a mentor for a first time GM.

I would be ok with that as well, but I think CC will enjoy his six figure bonus from woody, and ride back to the NFL Network for his part time gig... he and Wolf did good work here.

Chan had Tyler Thigpen be a productive QB, I have some hope!

So Chan Gailey looks like a done deal.....more I read up on him he did seem to be a MUCH better OC than HC...and even when a HC his offenses were good....my concern is him being out of football for 2 yrs and his offenses being a bit outdated....seems strange that Bowles was so hot for him...anyone know the connection? I'm keeping an open mind...anyone who could make Fitzpatrick and Thigpen look decent cant be all bad!

His offense is actually all the rage now.

Right,

I hope Geno is gone. I just see no point him being here.

He was a 2nd RDer and turned the ball over more than anyone else in the league.

Project failed.

Move on.

The Jets were forced to make a move, and did so with conviction (and I give them credit for that). Waiting on Quinn "could" have been brutal if he were to go somewhere else, and they were stuck with leftovers. That would have been devastating, as their best two offensive players (today, not potential) are arguably Brick and Mangold, and neither is getting any younger. In a sense, they are in a win-now mode, as their line will likely be a mess in 2+ years. I can see Mangold sticking around into his mid-30s, but Brick seems to be slowing down.

Bowles should be able to make an immediate impact, and hopefully they address the O-line in the draft the next couple of years, not just to improve it, but to keep it from sinking further in years to come.
