I'd think getting the fastest, most athletic linebacker in the draft, at a position of need, and a guy who in hindsight seems as if any number of war rooms were zeroed in on taking ASAP ought to make you feel better about it.Second time this was posted.3C said:Gerry Dulac @gerrydulac FollowZyphros said:Not thrilled about the pick, but it could be worse. I think the initial plan was possibly Aaron Donald/Kyle Fuller but then they both went right infront of them. I was expecting Dennard after that or a trade down and they end up taking Shazier... Not thrilled. I think it was maybe 5-10 picks too early for him and it isn't like the Steelers to reach a little.
Oh well, nothing to do but welcome him to Steeler Nation now.
Dallas Cowboys were ready to select Ryan Shazier at No. 16 until #Steelers grabbed him. Agent was on phone w Cowboys.
Is sniping the player that Jerruh Jones wanted supposed to make me feel better about the pick?
The only reason to be down on him, IMO, is the idea that the Mel Kiper-ish talking heads didn't appear to be quite as high on him as the war roomers whose jobs actually depend on their being right.
If PIT seemed to be alone on an island (like Philly with M. Smith) in this valuation, I can see wondering WTH happened. But when all the player personnel guys seem to be in harmony, I'm more inclined to think the talking heads just led us astray and/or didn't know what they were talking about.
