✦✦✦Official 2014 Pittsburgh Steelers Thread (1 Viewer)

Not sure why the excessive want for WR. They're doing what most teams are doing. Sitting until one WR matches up on the board with the pick. Lots of WR talent still on the board.
Well, at least for me, its because our current WRs are Brown, Lance Moore, Wheaton, DHB..Im actually optimistic on the DHB signing, but were bereft at WR, its so bad I dont know what to say. When you dont have an idea who your WR2 is this time of year, thats bad.
They won't be getting a WR2 from this group either. Only way they might have was with an early pick. Not putting a lot of credence into it but Woofley keeps talking about Danny Coale.

If it comes down to Moncrief vs Gaines who would you want? I want Gaines.

Of course there will be many other options.

Louis Nix goes in the 3rd... with the Steelers pick that was the cost of Landry Jones.

*Shamarko Thomas was the trade.

So much for the Steelers getting a WR early - maybe Wheaton is ready to step in.
If you look at the WRs they brought in, it didnt appear they had any slotted early for the draft.

All Defense early. DL, LB, CB, S.

I understand that, but you don't always bring in guys you will draft.
We typically do.

Pittsburgh isnt too much cloak & dagger.

On occasion at best.
okay, I get what you are saying - it's different for each team. What do you think about Wheaton and Moore? Can they replace Cotchery and Sanders??
I dont think we replace Cotchery very easy, even if we drafted a WR. His thing wasnt so much ability, but accountability and being steady. Hard for a rook to offer that.

Sanders is certainly replaceable with Moore, Wheaton and Bey.

Our next pick in a few minutes Im assuming is CB or WR, which will have a shot to develop.

Cost of Landry Jones, really?! I thought it was moving up for Shamarko
I 2nd that thought. Landry was a 5th rounder, IIRC.
He was just 4 picks after Thomas with our own selection.
Well, close enough BST. I definitely thought Jones was the next round. Obviously im trying to erase memories of the waste of a pick that was Landry Jones.

Well in any case I love the signing, especially with the Ravens being interested .

Aside from losing Cotchery I really like the moves the Steelers have made this offseason.
I agree. I think you can get into the playoffs and have Blount produce and help you win games if he has to start. Not so with Dwyer, Redman, Jones.

I am interested in what we are looking at for a passing down back behind Bell though.

I know that undersized and blazing Dri Archer is only projected as a 5th/6th rounder.

And he returns kicks... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scMAy5rM3Eo
His stock went up into the 3/4 area.

BOOM!

And where is he going to play? Colberts fascination with guys like this is starting to become maddening. Even before Chris Raineys offseason debacle what was he going to become?

Please don't even try to tell me this is a "need" pick :kicksrock:
More than you might think. He'll return kicks, he'll play in the slot, he'll line up behind Ben as a change of pace back. He's basically covering 3 minor needs. I think they look at Bryant or Coleman in the 4th or 5th rounds if they were serious about getting a big receiver. Thought Desir might be the pick, but I had a sneaking feeling that they were going to take Archer. They desperately want to inject speed on both sides of the ball.

They're hardly ever "need" picks.
So you see my problem as well. If you are going to going to go "best player available" for now on at least get near the top of the list
Dri was the top RB available on some lists... http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/tracker/by-round#dt-by-round-input:3/dt-tabs:dt-by-position/dt-by-position-input:rb

He fills a need spot - pass catcher behind Bell and Return man extraordinaire.

And if you look he is higher ranked then any WR, CB or S.
