1.01 dynasty draft advice (1 Viewer)

Hello all. I have, for me, a unique dilemma in that I am completely torn over who I want to draft with this pick. Normally I always know exactly who I want but the value vs need between the top players in the rookie draft is so close I can't make up my mind. Scoring is 1 point per 10 yards with 0.5 PPR for RB (rule change in discussion to increase to 1 PPR for RB) and 1 PPR for WR (1.5 PPR for TE). The starting line-up is 5 offensive flex for RB/WR/TE but we are encouraged to use NFL line-up formats. Let me list my current roster as well:

RB- Lamar Miller, Doug Martin, LeGarrette Blount, Bilal Powell, Jamaal Charles, TJ Yeldon, Jeremy Langford

WR- Jordy Nelson, Keenan Allen, DeSean Jackson, Brandon LaFell, Jeremy Maclin, Malcolm Mitchell, Tavon Austin, Sammie Coates, Pharoh Cooper

TE- I have no TE but we aren't required to start one.

So, with the rules and my roster in mind which way does everyone else lean in the dynasty rookie draft? I am well and truly torn between Fournette and Corey Davis. Sadly, I tried to trade down so someone else could make the decision for me given my indecision but no one was interested in 1.01 for a pick I was willing to trade down to. I have the rest of my draft board completely figured out (including a top 5 players to target at each pick through seven rounds based on need, expected availability, and my personal opinion of each player). I'm just paralyzed over which way to draft at 1.01 in this league (I am a new owner this year). I'm too used to drafting between 1.08 and 1.10 every single year as that is pretty much where I always finish in my leagues (between 3rd and 5th overall in the league).

This is kind of an odd format to me so I may not be seeing all of the intricacies (obviously a top end TE would be great because of the 1.5 PPR but I don't think any warrant #1 overall).

With only 0.5 PPR for Rbs I think I'd take Davis. Your Wrs are stronger than your Rbs but I think Davis is more valuable in this format. If the Rb PPR got moved to 1 ppr I'd consider fournette. But with no real requirements to start a Rb at all I'd be loading up on Wrs as much as possible.

My first comment as I was reading your post was to trade down but you have since covered that option as not being an option.  I would keep it in mind as you get closer to the draft as other owners will start to get itchy and may be willing to move up.  I wouldn't totally rule that out until you are on the clock and nobody is biting.

My personal choice is McCaffrey but since that isn't who you are torn with it I will choose Fournette.  I think he is the safer guy for a higher floor and I just have more confidence in him than Davis.  I think Davis has more risk regarding fantasy performance and I want to minimize risk in the first round.

Both options of Fournette and Davis are good.  You're weak at RB after Miller, and you don't have a lot of depth at WR and you're old...having Nelson and DJax.

I would go with Fournette, but I wouldn't fault you for going with Davis.  You're probably not going to be a title contender with that lineup and I am taking BPA, which I think is Fournette.

PPR does raise McCaffrey on my board a little. Within spitting distance of Fournette and Davis actually. Reading up on all three players, every article post-draft I could find online, Fournette and Davis both just have more positive buzz than McCaffrey. I don't remember off-hand what it was or where I read it but I also saw one or two minor red flags for McCaffrey as far as dynasty value vs those two. I'd still love to have him, and if I could have traded down to 1.03 I would have picked him up without a second thought and been ecstatic to get him. I just don't like his value quite as much, both for this year and his dynasty potential. I understand and appreciate your opinion about him though. I wouldn't fault you in the least for taking him at 1.01 if you had that pick in your draft. He is close enough I couldn't argue against him if that was where someone else was leaning.

One thing to consider is your league's trading tendencies.  If you can't trade the pick now, you may be able to trade the player later.  In most of my leagues, I've noticed that RBs fetch much better trade value in return than WRs of comparable rank do, so that causes me to err on the side of RBs with any choice between comparable players.

I would lean towards Davis even if it's 1 PPR for RBs.  What are the trades you tried to move down in the draft?  Have you tried to trade the pick for any non-rookies?

If you're settled on Fournette or Davis, I'm not going to try to talk you out of either. In fact I agree with deciding between these two.

I can see the dilemma; I've gone back and forth myself before posting this and this isn't even my team!

You are definitely better off at WR than RB but you are old and untalented at both positions in general.

I'd go with Fournette because at least for the next 2-3 seasons you have some very good WRs; and there are plenty of WRs you can get round 2 who can help round you out in the future. I can't say the same about RB... Miller was volume dependent last year. Martin is a big question mark. After those two you really don't have anyone TBH.

At least at WR I can make a case for most of those WRs being serviceable. And I believe you can get a good WR round 2 rather than RB at that position (outside of round 1 I'm not sure I'd take a RB until round 3)
