1.01/Hopkins for Antonio Brown (1 Viewer)

12 team keeper league. IDP. Partial PPR.

I was offered 1.01/Hopkins for either Brown or David Johnson. Should I take the deal for either?

How many keepers and are there any penalties (round lost, salary cap, etc) for the players?
There are 13 keepers. No penalties. Being IDP, I typically end up keeping around 8 offense, 5 defense. My current potential keeps are:

(QB) Rodgers, (RB) D. Johnson, Crowell, Dixon, Lamar Miller, T. Coleman, McKinnon, (WR) A. Brown, OBJ, Tyrell Williams, Tyreek Hill, D. Parker, Martavis Bryant, Corey Coleman, John Brown, Kevin White, (TE) Martellus Bennett, Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, (DL) Calais Campbell, Ansah, (LB) Deion Jones, Lavonte David, Mosley, Orr, Perryman, Levy, (DB) Cyprien, Burnett, Joseph.

I've got some decisions to make.

Here are my keeper thoughts based on what you currently have (not looking at the trade just yet).  Note I am assuming you can keep forever:

  1. QB - Rodgers (duh)
  2. RB - Johnson
  3. RB - Miller
  4. RB - Wait for the off season to shake out on Dixon/Coleman/McKinnon/Crowell
  5. WR - OBJ
  6. WR - Tyreke Hill (I think he will be a stud)
  7. WR - Antonio Brown (holding for now without thinking trade)
  8. WR - Parker/White - depending on coaching changes/off season reports
  9. TE - Henry
  10. DL - Ansah
  11. LB - Jones
  12. LB - Mosley/Orr (depending on off season reports)
  13. LB - Perryman/Levy (depending on injury & off season reports)
A couple comments as to my reasoning:

  • I never keep DB's because you can always find top 10 guys on the waiver wire
  • Campbell - older guy and I am guessing there will be DL talent available in the draft with this format.  I think he is just replacement level
  • David - I would try and trade him for picks as I don't think he is a top 5 guy anymore and you might be able to get some value on name recognition alone.
  • You have a lot of young/unproven WR talent so I would really look to start moving some of those guys for picks.  This being said, If I was to make the trade I would lean towards moving Brown because you have a lot better depth to replace his loss over Johnson's loss.
Trade thoughts:

I am not sure if I would want Hopkins in return based on your WR choices.  I would look at some DL help or LB help as a thrown in as well as trying to get someone a little more proven than Hopkins.  I would think I need more to make the trade and I would move Brown over Johnson.

Gally, thanks so much for your thoughts. Yes, you can keep forever. Ideally, my goal this offseason is to A) trade my way into at least 1 of the top 4 picks, B) possibly package Miller/or other RB with 1 or 2 of the WRs and add another stud RB, or a guy liked Jordan Howard, C) ideally get both done. I'd hate to see all these guys go to waste back into the draft.

@Gally From a different owner, I was just offered Sammy Watkins in exchange for my Lamar Miller. I'm thinking yes. Should I pull the trigger?

He also has 1.05. Being a FA/rookie draft, and with the drafting history of this league, there's about an 80% chance that this pick would bring  LF/Cook/Davis/Williams. I'm thinking about trying to package some of the other guys in addition to Miller/Watkins and get that pick from him. The other owner may move the 1.01 for Watkins, giving me 1.01 and 1.05 for Miller and a couple young RBs, WRs that I don't even have room to keep.

I would rather have Miller over Watkins but that is mainly because Watkins seems to need another surgery and the coaching situation and team are up in the air for Watkins.  He is a huge risk at the moment.  However, if you are able to move Watkins for 1.01 so you end with the picks you outlined I would be more inclined to do so.

Typically I would much rather invest in known players over picks as I don't value picks as much as many others do in dynasty type leagues.  Picks are always a crapshoot so I would rather go after 2nd/3rd year players that are moving to a good situation or becoming starters.  In your case you seem to have your freezes set so trading players you can't keep for pick upgrades is the best case scenario for acquiring picks.
