Drew Brees is at 4,033 yards, Marino's record I think is 5,084

Brees has Washington at home, @ Giants, Carolina at home

can he do it ?

350 a game is a tough order over three games. He would need another 400+ yarder in there to be considered. If they clinch the two seed by week 17, you could see him only play a half.

yes

330 vs WAS

400 vs NYG

330 vs CAR

1060!!!!!!

They can still lose the #2 seed so they have to keep fightin'

Holy cow yes he actually can. That would be unbelievable.

But will he? According to my calculations and statistical analysis, I say:

35% yes 65% no

It'll be interesting to see what happens if the Saints have nothing to play for in Week 17 but Brees has a shot at the record. Will Payton play him and let him try and set the mark or sit him?

That will be interesting. I'd say he starts the game, and if he has a strong first half and is within striking distance, of course they leave him in. If it doesn't look reachable, of course they take him out. Personally I'm against benching players with everything clinched up anyway, because I feel like it takes players out of their groove.

The fact that it is possible is crazy. That was one of those records that are just to far out.

Those D's have given up big yardage at times.

Brees has been a 3,500 yrd type of QB. So what he has done is amazing. He didnt start the year that well either :o

I think Payton would play him. I don't think he's worried about over-confidence. The Saints have a lot of momentum and getting the record would really boost their confidence going into the postseason.

I think it's going to be really close.
this is why i argued that LT shouldnt be the CLEAR winner of the MVPeveryone expected LT to produce and that team is PFG without him.Brees on a new team, coming back from surgery, and he breaks an amazing record?Cmon guys!
Tomlinson's record is pretty amazing too - especially when you consider he's not done yet.I definitely think Brees and LT should be the top 2 MVP candidates but right now I think the vote goes to LT. If Brees breaks Marino's record I would vote that they share the award (and I typically hate that for an MVP award).

Even if the saints have the bye locked up by the 31st, Brees will play. You don't want the league's hottest QB to sit 2 weeks before a playoff game.

agree. plus, last i checked (someone can verify/deny) but the saints give up the fewest sacks in the NFL. so his injury risk is low. i see him airing it out as long as the record's within reach, and as long as it doesn't put any Ws at risk.the guy is a machine. he can light up Wash and NYG (gulp), for sure. he's a lot of fun to watch.

You mean the guy who got his shoulder shredded playing in a meaningless week 17 game last year? Will that guy be allowed to go for the record if the week 17 game this year is meaningless playoffs wise?

I don't think it'd be an easy decision if he needs more than say 150 yards.

He's 59 yards ahead of Warner was at this time in 2001. It will be close.
Whats scary is how good the Rams were in 2000, when Warner threw for 3429 yards, at an amazing 9.9( ) yards per attempt, and Trent Green threw for 2063 at 8.6 yards per attempt. Thats 5500(!) yards of passing offense.
