1.23: Who Should The Kansas City Chiefs Take? (1 Viewer)

Being fairly tuned-in to what KC does, my opinion is that KC needs to go DT.

I feel they are one run-stopping DT from becoming a top-10 DEF. Craziness you say? Well last season they finished:

11th in Points Allowed

16th in Passing Yards Allowed

18th in Rushing Yards Allowed

I think with the improvements made @ LB, and @ the two safety spots (assuming Wesley is gone), and another year of learning for Hali, KC will be a vastly underrated DEF in 2007.

Now, as to other issues, in round 2 I would target WR. As a KC fan, I have had my mind set on USC's Steve Smith for over a year now. I don't know if he will be there @ 54th overall. If a top caliber WR is not there, I would go and get OL help or a RB.

KC , as it stands now, will have an OL of:

LT - McIntosh

LG - Waters

C - Weigmann

RG - Welbourn

RT - Chris Terry

I am not sold on Terry, so if @ 54th overall, they could get a OT like Doug Free I would be happy.

I'll second that one. If Harrell isn't there, or the Chiefs aren't sold on him, they should take Kalil or Staley. Wiegmann is getting up there in years. If neither of those two are available at the 23rd pick, I see the Chiefs trying to trade down. The Chiefs absolutely should NOT take a WR in the first round. It isn't what they are about. I see an outside chance of them taking Ginn if he falls, but that would primarily be for his return ability. I do fully expect them to take a WR in round 2 or 3.

I see them going DT, OL, and WR in the first three rounds (some order). I just don't see where they are going to fit in a first day RB, which is the current chatter. Of course, the Chiefs have tended to stick fairly well to taking BPA.

In other words, I agree with you. :kicksrock:

ETA: I just read the NFL Draft Guys feature. Bloom and Lammey are spot on.

:headbang: As much as I like Rice and think he'll be a good player, and the Chiefs need a WR, they need DT more.

As I've said elsewhere, the outside of KC's D is excellent, very few are better than the DEs and OLBs. However, that won't help too much if the DTs and MLB (Nappy?) remain as weak as they are.

I don't know if there's a bigger disparity on one side of the ball in the NFL then the outside to inside of KC's D. As things stand, it's like an alley.

Allen, Hali, Edwards, DJ, Surtain and Ty Law either have pro-bowl potential or have been there.

The DTs and MLB shouldn't be starting in the NFL and the Safeties are completely unproven.

Of course, they could trade LJ for a DT, but I highly doubt it.

I'd be very happy with Harrell, Aaron Sears in the 2nd, and Jason Hill or Jacoby Jones in the 3rd.

No love for Bowe, huh? I like Rice fine, but his thin body and soft routes leave him a notch below Bowe in my book.

I like the DT idea, but Harrell was already off my board, and I wasn't willing to reach for anyone else.

I have a feeling Staley isnt going to be there at 23... Kalil would be my 2nd choice after Harrell.

I see them taking Ryan Kalil, Aaron Ross or Joe Staley with pick number 23. All three of these guys might be a reach at 23 as most mocks I have seen have them going later. I do not see them going DT unless the TANK is availiable but I see huge credibility issues with this pick. The three mentioned above have excellent rated character with huge potential on the field to make a difference for years to come.

Kalil could be the anchor in our offensive line for years and is expected to be a pro bowl caliber player.

just my 2 cents as a local.

With the news on Chris Terry, I am certain KC will go OL @ 1.23 and then try and go DT in round 2.

If they could land Justin Blalock or Ben Grubbs @ 1.23 and let him play either RG or RT, and then grab a DT like Turk McBride in RD2 I would be happy

or....flip it

Go Justin Harrell round one and get a DOug Free in round 2

I thin any talk of KC going WR before round 3 just ended though.

Joe Staley, OT, C. Michigan.

big time player filling a big time need for the Chiefs. will be a bookend for the next decade.

Herm loves to run the ball!

could also see them go for, gulp,Ginn, Jr, if he is still available, the Chiefs desperately need a good WR..

but at the end of the day, I do think they go for Staley,if he's still available.

Looking at the Chiefs draft plans this year one also has to recognize a few key factors being.

DE Jared Allen is facing a possible 4 game suspension.

OT Chris Terry is also possibly facing a suspension.

Both of these add extra pressure since our depth on the OL and DL are incredibly thin and more or less come down to character issues. This is important since age is such a factor on the O-line with both Shields and Roaf leaving in the past two years and Center Casey Weigman might also be announcing his retirement soon.

Two other items that are important I feel is that RB Larry Johnson and DE Jared Allen are both wanting more money and become free agents next year. One of them will get the guaranteed coin and possibly the other being franchised is what I am hearing through the local media.

OT Joe Staley would be a good pick but would be better with more weight and experience. We already have enough projects in Kansas City( example is Will Svitek who has been getting excellent reviews).

I think we should draft OL, DT and CB. I would love to see them get Ryan Kalil, Justin Harrel or Aaron Ross and all 3 of these should be availiable at pick 23. All 3 of these could have an immediate impact on our team.
