1 owner needed Draft goin on now (1 Viewer)

I'll give you more of a story on me supposedly "whimping out." Pretty much either May 18th or May 25th was going to 'tentatively' be our draft's starting date. I check into my leagues in the offseason roughly 1-3 times a week, if not more. I go out to dinner and come back to an email saying that RGIII has been selected as the 1.03 pick. I'm thinking wtf is going on?? Draft was not suppose to start for another 3 or so weeks. I posted in this thread saying, "Why wasn't there an email sent out about starting the draft? That's really absurd. I don't mind starting it early but I just feel like this league is ran piss poorly." I get the response of "WOW buddy I just started it I was getting around to it... No timer was put on why are you #####ing about it???? Im sorry I didn't send out an email I put it on Message boards... The commish is not supposed to send out an email for every decision he makes... check the site next time. It's how the league has been run for 6 years man..."

This isn't the first time something absurd has happened in this league. After three other owners and I joined this league last year and finished our dispersal draft, we had an open free agency without blind bidding or any sort of waiver priority. Then there was no announced trade deadline. Now this commish bumps the draft up about three weeks without any emails, but I receive and email to pay my league dues?? This commish is unorganized and doesn't know how to run a league imo. I'm in 9 dynasty leagues, 2 in which I commish myself. I know I'd make sure with all of my owners that everyone either knows the draft if being moved up to a certain date so they can adjust accordingly. After that last message he posted, I felt there was no need to be in this league anymore because of how unorganized it was ran and I didn't feel like it was a good investment because of that. I posted one last message telling the commish how he should give everyone a notice of such irrational decisions he makes on his own, among other things, which he promptly deleted after I ended the message saying I was quitting the league. Good luck to the other owners that are in the league as I hope they can eventually come to their senses and have someone else take over control of the league so it doesn't fold.

Funny, I joined this league last offseason for about a day. At the time there were 4 open teams (I believe)that were orphaned and in need of owners. I took what was by far the best of them. The other teams did not fill too quickly though, so the commissioner decided to combine the remaining teams and hold the dispersal draft. This dispersal was not to include my new team but the way it was just decided one day by the commissioner without any league discussion grabbed my attention. I felt that if it were to be a fair dispersal, my team should have been part of the draft (even though it would hinder me, personally.)I just felt like if the commissioner was going to change gears so quickly, on a whim, then I wanted no part of this league. That's why I ran, not walked from this league. When I posted about it here, I was attacked by others stating that I wanted all of the good players for myself and that was why I was unhappy. I thought that this was really funny since most of the good players from the eventual dispersal came from my team in the first place. At the time I was considering another league of his that also had orphans looking for owners. Glad that I never sunk my money in any of them and instead joined another league that had a team in need of a total re-build and with some off-season trades and a good draft, I made the playoffs in my first year and couldn't be happier.Good luck in future endeavors.Lemmy
Both of you guys are cry babies.... Just because I started the draft with no timer early because a bunch of owners were bugging me to get it going is not theat terrible. Im a new commissioner and Im open to ideas but I don't like being attacked and called names because the league is not ran how you feel or think it should be. I run leagues fair and competitive and just because I don't do things the way you think are correct doesn't mean diddly...

Apparently I have learned that I'm also a "jerk" for leaving this league since I didn't have any money invested in it and felt the league was ran like complete crap. I still find it quite amusing that you call us out for "calling you names" when no such thing has been done, yet you've called us "cry babies" and specifically, me a "jerk."Tell you what buddy, when I wake up in the morning, I'll make a post in the SP on questioning how a league should be ran. In my league, my rookie draft is slated to start "around June 1st." I moved the draft up to May 15th because of a busy schedule I have starting at the end of May. I have notified each person individually AND sent out a league wide email just to be certain everyone is on the same page. I'm no genius, but I'm guessing that's how a league should be ran, not by irrational decisions made at the change of a second without fully consulting all the owners that are investing their money into a league that is ran by you.

For what it's worth, this league has continued drafting, even without the spot being filled. Another horrendous move by the commish imo.

It is always good for a commissioner to make sure the rules are extremely robust before starting the league, then do only as much as necessary from that point on. The more things you do, that aren't explicitly covered in the rules, the more it creates a sense of chaos and instability to the other owners. It doesn't matter if the things you are doing are reasonable or unreasonable. Most people have many leagues they play in and they do not want to feel like one of their leagues is being subjected to the whims of a rogue commissioner. Its hard enough to keep up with all of the various rules, draft dates, trade deadlines etc if you play in multiple leagues - the last thing you want is a league where it seems like everything is a moving target.

Honestly, you can pretty much tell how a league will be run by how well written and robust the rules are.
