#1 Pass Defense in the NFL Right Now (Statistically / YPG) (1 Viewer)

#1 Raiders 140.5 yds allowed per game

almost 20 yards better than

#2 Chargers 159.2 yds allowed per game

Ok ok, they also have the lowest number of pass attempts per game in the NFL so of course I don't think they are truly #1 even though the stats say so. If you look at passing yards per attempt, they rank 9th. Still not too bad.

The Raiders are a bad team, but so are the Cards, Texans, Packers, 49ers, and Lions. Those teams are all in the bottom 10 in passing defense. Not the Raiders. So the argument "their opponent does not have to throw because they are so bad" does not always work. It's not because you are a bad team that you necessarily give up few passing yards per game.

A few QBs have had a surprisingly bad games against the Raiders and some fantasy owners have been considerably disappointed (Leinart this week, Plummer last week). It's not because the Raiders stink as a whole that your QB will automatically torch the Raiders.

Raiders passing defense = not that bad

Owners of Roethlisberger / Batch or H Ward / H Miller beware in week #8. Don't necessarily bench them, but you should temper your expectations. Don't just assume that this is going to be a cake walk.

The Raiders are such a mess that several people don't even take the time to adequately analyze what's bad and what's not so bad within their team. Wake up now regarding their pass defense. Do not start your backup QB/WR against them because you think it's a good matchup.

Yeah when you're already ahead and its easy to run, teams tend not to pass.
Did you read my initial post above?

And those teams don't necessarily have a better run D than the Raiders which would explain why opponents pass instead. In fact, I could argue that at least three of the five teams listed have a worse run D than the Raiders.
