#1 pick in the FFPC-FBG (1 Viewer)

Note they have 1.5 pts/catch for TEs. If anyone is interested in any specific ADPs, let me know. Someone picked Lesean McCoy with the 2nd pick of the draft....seriously. Also the RB runs were crazy so I took value with Antonio Gates and Peyton Manning. I got Fred Jackson at 6.12 that way when I almost took him as RB2 at 4.12. So taking Manning helped since he would not have made it back to me.

I did have Ben Tate and Bernard Scott targetted as handcuffs but they were both taken earlier in the round I was targetting to get them.

THoughts/questions?

===============

1.01 Arian Foster

2.12 Antonio Gates

3.01 Reggie Wayne

4.12 Cedric Benson (serious run on RBs so had to secure RB2 here; other options were Fred Jackson; Daniel Thomas Miami ....Ryan Grant just went before me)

5.01 Peyton Manning (serious value here since only 2 QBs were gone and I figured a QB run was coming before it got to me).

6.12 Fred Jackson

7.01 Kenny Britt

8.12 Lance Moore

9.01 Ryan Torain

10.12 Chris Cooley

11.01 Matt Ryan

12.12 Roy Helu (RB Skins)

13.01 Michael Crabtree

14.12 Bears D/ST (Homer pick :) )

15.01 Denarius Moore (WR Oakland)

16.12 Kyle Rudolph TE Minny

17.01 Alex Green RB GB

18.12 Alex Henery K Eagles

19.01 Jabbar Gaffney WR Skins

20.12 San Fran D/ST

QB: Peyton Manning; Matt Ryan

RB: Arian Foster; Cedric Bencon; Fred Jackson; Ryan Torain; Roy Helu (Wash); Alex Green (GB)

WR: Reggie Wayne; Kenny Britt; Lance Moore; Michael Crabtree; Denarius Moore (oak); Jabbar Gaffney

TE: Gates; Chris Cooley; Kyle Rudolph

D/ST: Bears; Niners

K: Alex Henery

Turner right before me....the RB run was crazy. This is how the RBs went.

1.01 Foster

1.02 McCoy

1.03 Ray Rice

1.04 ADP

1.05 Chris Johnson

1.06 Jamaal Charles

1.08 McFadden

1.09 Forte

1.11 Mendenhall

2.01 MJD

2.02 Mark Ingram (yes, Ingram...crazy huh?)

2.03 Gore

2.08 Steven Jackson

2.09 Michael Turner

I would have loved to get SJax or Turner but they went right before me. I did not want any of the RBBC guys like DeAngelo W; Bradshaw; Shonn Greene or guys I have no faith in to produce for a year like Jahvid Best that early. I prefer drafting safely early. With Gates, Reggie Wayne and Peyton Manning, I knew I could not lose in that league with my top 5 picks.

Also, do you actually think VJax will outperform Reggie Wayne. No way no how....

I'm really thinking of joining one of these, it seems like a lot of fun.

I like your team, who was available right after Torain? The most notable on the board when you drafted Gates?

Pretty boiler plate draft from you.

Your Kenny Britt/Lance Moore picks may have saved your ###.

Not a big fan of the Manning pick.

When I drafted Gates at 2.12:QBs available = all except VickRBs avail (in order of how they were drafted) = Best; DeAngelo Williams; Shonn Greene; Bradshaw; Felix Jones; Blount; Moreno; Hightower; Ryan Mathews; Ryan Grant; Cedric Benson (who I drafted)TEs available = all of courseWRs avail (in order of how they were drafted; outside Reggie Wayne) = Wes Welker; Mike Wallace; VJax; Mike Williams/Tampa; Dez Bryant; Dwayne Bowe; Brandon Marshall etc

I look at the teams in my league and I really do not see any major great team out there. Of course it is early and injuries; sleepers etc are yet to come forth. Should be fun. I see myself contending for the top 4 all year easily which should get me in to the shoot out

I cant argue with your picks, but might have gone Arodgers (maybe, but I am as big a fan of having Gates as anyone). But in hindsight, getting Manning in the 5th is a credit to you, as he dropped IMO and you got Gates. Nice job, I see this team competing for sure.

I would have had either a Rodgers-Owen Daniels combo or a Manning-Gates combo. I prefer the latter since they have proven it longer and Manning gets Dallas Clark back and hopefully a healthier WR core too. I understand Rodgers gets FInley back but the GB running game should be better this year too IMO.

this was a solid start...all good picks here IMHO. I like Jackson more than Wayne, and in this format I like waiting on QB until really late so not a huge Manning fan even at 5.01.

I think you fell apart on the backend of your draft. I don't like any of these picks outside of Crabtree.

I believe that. You didn't really have any bad picks in the first 10 rounds. Got some value in the middle with Britt and Moore.

You took Benson to early and Peyton too early. Going to be very difficult to win starting Britt and Lance Moore Every week. Benson doesn't catch the ball and won't score many TDs.

Don't like the Manning pick. You say its serious value but owners got Brady, Brees and Rivers cheaper than you while you got the elite QB with the most questions this year which is why you are forced to back him up with a QB in the 11th when you should have been shoring up your weaker positions (WR in this case). When you spend a top 5 pick on a QB you need to use the extra picks to make up for the deficiency it causes.

How did the TEs come off after Gates? Did you start a TE run by selecting Gates? Interesting that RBs jumped off the board. I don't like Benson, but the fact that you got Fred Jackson in the 6th was really good. I would have taken V Jax over Wayne.

I saw a draft last year that 2 TEs went in the first round. Interesting seeing how the 1.5 changes value of TEs. It seemed like QBs and WRs must of dropped if RBs jumped off the board. That would hurt if you went WR-WR drafting out of say 8-9-10-11-12 slot.

well, it seems relevant to me. mebbe you could grace us by "educating the shark pool" as to why moore will suddenly close this gap.

I see some posters saying they don't like the Manning pick, but if he wanted a top 6 QB, then he had to draft a QB at 5.1. None of the top 6 QBs would have made it back to him at 6.12. Depending on how you rank them, drafting Manning/Brady/Brees/Rivers at 5.1 is not a bad strategy if you want a top 6 QB.

If picking Manning makes you nervous enough about his neck that you pick a QB in the 11th then you shouldn't draft Manning at 5.01. Taking one of the other QBs is better.

That was exactly why I did it. No way I get a top 6 QB on the way back. Drafting t 1.01, I did not want to be at end of runs. Also I like Peyton's schedule (Jax; Titans; Hous twice; NFC South) over Brees (NFC North) and Brady (NFC East; AFC East with Jets twice)

I did not pick Ryan becoz I was worried about Peyton. I picked him there becoz he was huge value there. The guy picking 2nd or 3rd had to settle for Freeman as his starting qb. He was pissed since he was targetting Ryan. Hurting a competitors team while getting quality depth is not bad strategy

WOuld you start Lance Moore over Chris Cooley at flex...I may have that decision to make every week.
definitely starting Moore over Cooley
last 3 yrs ppgmoore: 10.333cooley: 13.4
Which is why I asked. And I am guessing you did not take the 1.5 PPR for TEs into account ... or does that take it into acct for the ppg you posted? (I am too lazy to look it up ;) )

I have been cautioned enough not to give too many specific ADP details about the draft so I will keep it more generic. By the time it got back to me after I picked Gates, every TE up to Owen Daniels was gone. There was a part of me that was actually thinking of drafting Daniels if he fell to me since I really like him to rebound well this year.

I had to pick Benson because there were some owners who clearly only wanted to pick RBs and I really did not want both Benson and Fred Jackson gone by the time it got back to me. I really did not want the AZ RB tandem as my starting RB2....I am not a fan of Wells or Williams not to mention I would have to burn both picks on them to ensure I get the entire back field and even then it will be a RBBC cluster#### and none of them are good IMO.

Here is a team in the same draft who's WRs are:Desean JacksonGarconDeion BranchSidney RiceRoy WJason HillDanario AlexanderANother team has RBs as follows:MorenoRonnie BrownMichael BushSnellingChoiceJames StarksDelone CarterDonald BrownAnother team has WRs as follows:OchoSantonio HolmesSteve Smith CARRandy MossTOBerrianAnother team has RBs as follows:Jamaal CharlesDanny WoodheadRicky WilliamsJavon RingerToby GerhartRyan Williams/ArizonaMy point is I see WR or RB holes (huge ones) in every one of them....

Getting Ryan where you did shows why you should wait on QB in these leagues. Your team would look much better had you taken another RB there!

The back half of your draft is weak, I agree with LHucks.

Never ever ever take QB & TE in the first 5 rounds IMO. It leaves you too weak at the other skill positions.

Good luck this season.

There was a FPC experts draft early and the TE run was similar. I appreciate the info, and hope you aren't divulging too much. I think the 1.5 has an impact, but what I saw last year in some drafts was over the top. I saw one team that took TEs with their first two picks. It doesn't increase TE values that much. Good luck with the team.

A player that doesn't see the field can't be huge value for you. Hurting 1 team means very little (and Freeman could do better than Ryan which means you could even have helped him) and you got "quality depth" at a position where you didn't need it instead of at a position where you did.

Me too, I see the Colts fading this year. I think the rest of the division passes them this year and Manning struggles to keep the Colts close. Their defense is going to bite.

it calculates ppg ffpc style, with 1.5ppr to the te. cooley has been a catch machine. i suppose lhucks thinks his role will be reduced while moore's is elevated.

Well, I just got done watching the skins game and Grossman was impressive. That being said, Moore is in for a huge year IMHO. Cooley could definitely surprise and Shannahan likes using his TEs...it could be closer than I originall projected.

I liked how you started. You potentially have two dominant players in Foster and Gates.

I agree with the Vjax over Wayne sentiment, but Wayne is a solid WR1.

I think where you went off the tracks was selecting a QB in the 5th. What were WRs and TEs were available at the pick? You got solid value selecting Britt in he 7th but we are making some big assumptions about him (he will stay healthy, he will stay out of trouble, the Titans will get good QB play). Britt is you WR2 for better or worse.

Snagging the best WR in the fifth round and waiting on QB would have been the better play IMO. StvJo, Holmes, Ocho?

In the drafts I have seen there are quality QBs after RD8. Ryan, Freeman, Stafford, Eli, BB. I would be very happy to have any as my QB1 and have depth at WR/RB/TE.

Selecting Ryan over depth will hurt you.

Funny that you say another owner had to "settle" for Freeman. Did you know that Freeman finished ahead of Ryan last year?

Grossman got a bad rap in Chicago, IMHO. He is no superstar, but there are worse starters in the league.

This is why I see Manning for the first time in quite a while having some value. I don't see the Colts running more, I don't see the defense getting better, so I see a bunch of shootout games in the 30s. He threw 680 passes last year and still had decent totals with most of his receivers banged up throughout the year. The risk in Manning is if his neck is worse than they are letting on, but I've seen Manning getting passed over for other QBs in drafts. In this case, taking him as the #2 QB off the board (if I was reading things right) was probably too soon, but I doubt that will kill you.

But I expect Ryan to do much better than Freeman this year (add Julio) and Tampa to regress big time this year. Their schedule was cake last year and every time they played a good team they looked like crap. THis year Tampa gets the NFC North. Bears and Packers D will eat Freeman alive not to mention the Minny and Det DLs are pretty good too.

David #3 QB off the board. Vick went in the 2nd round and Rodgers went in the 2nd or 3rd too.

You certainly have history on your side in regards to the Buccs. Personally I think the TB is going to buck this trend, primarily because Freeman is a very, very good QB. But that is a secondary point. But the bigger point is selecting two QBs instead of depth. If you are that high on Ryan you could have rolled with him as QB1. Who else was available in the 6th round (the next 8 players, excluding QB)? I would also like to see who else was available when you picked Britt (the next 8 players, excluding QB).

I picked Ryan in the 11th round. I picked Fred Jackson in the 6th round (6.12) and Kenny Britt at 7.01. The next set of players were Mario Manningham; Sidney Rice; Chris Beanie Wells; Ocho; Ryan WIlliams Arizona; James Starks; Mike Tolbert; Robert Meachem; Mike Thomas Jax WR; BJGE NE RB; Winslow TEI like Fred Jackson over every one of those RBs taken after me and I like Britt over every one of those WRs. Sure Britt has risk but I went very safe with my initial picks - Foster; Peyton; Gates and Reggie Wayne are as safe as they come unless they get injured (which no one can predict). Britt was my mid round HR kinda pick....he may be a risk in that he does not see the field all 16 games but his PPG are mind blowing and he is the only true weapon on his team so I expect lots of opportunities.

I see Manning with huge value too this year. Both Collie and Clark were out and he yet had his typical 4000+ 30+ year. Add to that the swiss cheese Hous; Jax and Titans D twice a year and the fact that you can plug him in every week and never get burnt and it was an easy decision. He will play every game and he will get his points some way or another.

This is where you lose me. Your reasons for taking Manning are solid and you have said you are going to start him every week, so why waste round 11 pick on a QB? You would have been better served working on depth.

Same draft I got Roethlisberger in the 8th round....that's why you wait on QB. ;)

Yeah because getting a QB that threw for 17 TDs (even if it was 4 less games) is the way to win championships :) . Good luck with a QB that has a one trick pony at WR, an aging #2 WR on the decline, an average TE, a bad OL and a run oriented philosophy!

You are focused on the details and not the strategy. Tell me the QBs taken in the 8th round or later. I believe at least three will finish in the top 10.
