#10 pick in 14 teamer .. can you offer advice? (1 Viewer)

Gang,

Long time viewer, first time poster here :)

Anyways, looking for thoughts on my situation .....

14 team league, drafting 10th. Standard scoring, start 1 QB 1 RB 2 WR 1 RB/WR 1 TE 1 D 1 K

I'm keeping Steve Smith which will cost me my 4.05 pick.

My thoughts : Take best RB available at 1.10 .. hopefully a Cadillac, Rudi, Jordan, etc will be there

2.05 is my problem. Let's say one of the top 5 ish WRs are out there .. do I take one, netting me TWO top 5 WRs, then take my chances at 3.10 with best RB available? Or since I already have a top 5 WR, go RB at 2.05 and hope for a McGahee, for instance, and then go with best available WR at 3.10?

In other words, assuming the players are there when I pick, what is worth more to me:

2 top 5ish WRs, a #10ish RB and a RB with questions/sharing carries or

1 top 5 WR, 2 top 15ish RBs, and an above average WR #2 (maybe a Driver or a Johnson)

Normally I'd go RB RB, but with so many questions at RB and since I only HAVE to start 1 rb if I want in this league, I'm starting to consider other options.

Any advice appreciated .. thanks for reading :)

No love for the newbies? :) This has dropped to page 2 already so I'm giving it a BUMP.

This is my first time doing a 14 teamer .. just uncertain if it requires a big change in draft strategy.

i like taking best player avail, if at the 2.05 a top WR or even gates (assuming te reqd) is avail, i definately pull the trigger

you need to trust your ability to find the gems in the later rounds

Ugh .. this got UGLY in a hurry ....

In our keeper league you can keep anyone you drafted 3rd or later. Well these players are all off the board:

LJ

Tiki

Parker

McGahee

Brown

I'm picking tenth which means my first RB may well be a Westbrook or Bush!!! It's great and all to have S Smith already .. but I need good RBs. Many of the teams ahead of me are going to already have two stud RBs by the time I pick in the first.

Any advice? Seems like I'm screwed :(

There are plenty of good upside RBs available later on. I think that Benson, Lewis, Mike Bell, and especially Warrick Dunn (with Duckett gone) and FWP (getting GL carries to start the season) represent great late round value. I don't think that any of those guys are really worth a first-rounder, so I would consider a top-5 WR with your first round pick. I would also explore the possibility of only using one starting back and three wide, assuming you can get three studs. Think of it this way. You could likely have:

Steve Smith

CJ

Boldin/Holt/Harrison

or

SSmith

KJ

JJ

I'd go for three stud WRs and try to piece together your RBs (will only need one true starter) in rounds 3-4 and 5-6. It can be done and your WRs will dominate in a 4-team league.

Sorry bout that .. new here, didn't know where to post. I'll move it there.

What does IBTM stand for?
