10 Team League question (1 Viewer)

I've always been in 12 or 14 man leagues but will soon be doing a 10 team money league, so I'm a bit new to it.

I did a mock draft tonight and found a lot of guys to be passing on some quality rb in favor of filling out lineups.

Whats the best strategy in a 10 team league, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K and 1 DEF

I still took rb's with 3 of my 1st 4 picks but guys were getting real good value with Cadillac in the 6th and Lynch in the 7th, F.Taylor in the 10th, Lamont JOrdan in the 12th... I was wondering with that type of value later on in the draft does it make sense to take a pile of top rb's early on or grab the studs at other positions as well.

For those of you who want are ding to say "Join a better league", or "I wish I was in leagues like that" or something dumb like that, I still have a spot open in the $200 league drafting in 10 days, so you'd have the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.

Hopefully some vets have some good advice

Depends where you're drafting. My strategy has usually been to fill out most of my starting spots before taking backups. Gates in the early third/late second is a good move.

Yes, you can wait and get good value on some of the lesser RB's, but I don't like to do that. I like having 3 pretty dependable backs for bye week/injury issues. Say you get Caddy or Lynch as your RB2 and an injury happens to your RB1, then what. Do you want to finish the season with Jerious Norwood and LaMont Jordan in your backfield just because they represented value? I'd rather take my chances with getting value picks at WR later on than with RB's, but that's just me. I only have to start 2 WR's also, so that does make a difference. I drafted Sunday 10th out of 10 and went RB/RB,WR/QB,WR/RB,D/RB,QB/WR,RB/K,TE/WR,WR/RB I put slashes in cause I was at the turn each round. I came out with a solid team IMO. I just noticed that I took at least one RB or WR at each turn.

I just drafted last Sat. pick #3 ina 10 team redraft Here is how I did

1.03 Reggie Bush- Yes I reached for him and could have got Gore or LJ here but I think Bush will light it up this year.

2.08 Steve Smith- In a 10 team you can get a top 20 RB so WR made sense so I took the BPA.

3.03 Willie Parker- How he fell this far I don't know but he saved me and I couldn't pass him up.

4.08 Lee Evans -again BPA

5.03 Javon Walker- Guys were reaching for WRs like I never saw before

6.08 Donovan McNabb- Had to get a top QB and I hope he stays healthy. Little did I know Philip Rivers would fall to 8th round. I could have waited.

7.03 Miami DEF- I needed a strong D since they are our top scorers.

8.08 Braylon Edwards

9.03 Ahman Green- Needed back up RBs he was the best on the board.

10.08 Shayne Graham- I should have waited here but I wanted a strong kicker and I didn't think Gostowski would be avaiable in the 11th, Should have gone WR or RB

11.03 Brandon Jones There were better on the board but there was bye week conflicts. He is the #1 in Tenn. I could have got Jerry Porter and still can .

12.08 Jerious Norwood- Neded a backup Rb. and couldnt pass him up

13.03 Ben Rothlisberger- Needed somoen to backup McNabb.

14.08 Stphen Gostowski Needed a backup kicker.

15.03 Green Bay DEF- Oakland was still on the board but I decided to go with Green Bay cause I think they will be great.

I fared well but I could have done better. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

Willie Parker in the 3rd round is grand larceny. I'd say you had a very good draft.

Never been in anything but a 10 team league (except one year when we could only find 8 teams). I've always gone with 3 RB's in the first four rounds. Last year, drafting from the #9 spot, I went RB/RB/TE(Gates)/RB/RB in the first five rounds. Ended up with a decent team, made some good WW picks, and won the championship and almost got the total points too.
