100k on a car (1 Viewer)

I'd buy a Honda Accord with custom solid-gold bumpers.

Then I'd melt the bumpers and sell the gold.

Take that, arbitrary thinking exercise!

100k isn't what it used to be in car money.  I remember as a teenager thinking that was Ferrari money.  When I got out of school I bought a new corvette, and then a brand new BMW M3, both for about $40k.  Those cars today cost double that.

Bought Mrs. O an Audi Q7 a couple years ago.  That ran like $70k all in.  Crazy how much cars cost these days.

That said, I love the Hellcat call.  Maybe a BMW M3 (I assume I'm priced out of the M5).  The Audi RS5 is maybe a better bet in terms of spending the full 100k and getting my money's worth.

But probably I'd have a Scout restomod done, something like this, and call it a day.  Even though that one costs way more.

Actually I might save it to get the highest end possible 2020 Ford Bronco.

One of four

1st choice would be a stick shift Gallardo (we're talking 2004 probably)

2nd choice would be an Audi R8 w/5.2 V10 stick shift (here we're talking 2012 or so).

3rd choice would be 1st gen NSX-T (so 2005+) stick shift, not the fastest car out there but still fun.

4th option might be new Corvette Z06 3LZ w/stick, a few options and museum delivery, the ZR-1 starts at 123k so no bueno there.

ListingAllCars has a few examples of each.

I can tell you what I wouldn't spend it on, an American made full size SUV (Bronco notwithstanding).  I can believe loaded Mercury or suburbans are getting six figures.

I'd go for something vintage: The '57 Chevy Bel Air, Auburn Boattail (original or replica, I just like the look of it) and Shelby Cobra (the model Carroll Shelby won Le Mans with, not the Mustang brand) would be the top of my list.

Forgot to add the 77 Pontiac Trans Am. Gotta have the Bandit car.

Fully loaded and restores 1991 VW Vanagon Syncro, with the TDI conversion.

But if I were smart I'd go with the Tesla X.

I'd probably get a Model S.  Fastest one I could get for 100k.  If I could swing a ModelX for 100k i'd go that way.

I'd buy an entry level 1980's Ferrari like a 308 or a 328 (Think Magnum PI) or a restomod 60's corvette convertible.

I'd love to say a new Nissan GT-R, but if I'm being honest with myself likely some fully tricked out (possibly "luxury") SUV - likely a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Oh yeah, this reminds me.  I've been Jonesing these days for a Challenger.  Not a current one, but from circa 1970.  I saw one on the Mecum auctions recently that I absolutely loved, went for a mere $25k

EDITED TO ADD: This is it. WANT

I love watching Mecum auctions, but watching them has built up in me a distaste for Chevelles and Mustangs, as every 3rd car that crosses the block seems to be one or the other.  Oddly, however, the glut of Novas in those auctions has had the opposite effect.  Weird.

Mecum is the way to go. The cars flat out go for less than at Barrett Jackson. I want to go to the Barrett Jackson one day, but I feel like I'd get more bang for my buck at Mecum.

By the thread title I thought this was going to be about vehicles with 100,000 miles. I’ve got a lot of experience with 100k mileage, not so much with $100k price.

This is my thinking exactly.  Might get the GT-R and drive the wheels off for a week and then trade it in on a more sensible sport ute.  It would be a fun week, if I didn't die wrapped around a telephone pole.

1949 Caddy 62 Convertible, cream & burgundy. No matter how much money i had, i would only spend ridiculous amounts of dough on things that held/gathered value, like classic cars, art, urban apartments

Been looking at full sized Range Rovers which run about $100k.   I'd really prefer the extended Autobiography version but that's like $180k.  Too much for my blood.

Honestly I'd rather buy a used Ferrari.  But I can't throw the kids in the backseat of that.
