14 team league (1 Viewer)

I have a 14 team league and I'm looking for some good suggestions on how to set up the divisions and the playoffs.....Any thoughts????

Two conferences of 7 teams each.

Winner of each conference makes the playoffs, as do four more teams with the best records, regardless of conference.

The respective conference winners have week 14 off. The other four teams play in the first round that week.

Week 15: Highest overall seed vs. lowest remaining seed, and obviously the two other teams also meet.

Week 16: Title game.

Have fun! :football:

We do 2 conferences. The following 7 teams make the playoffs:

1-4. Top 2 teams in each conference

5. 3rd place conference team with better record

6. Most total points not otherwise in the playoffs (to reduce the effect of bad luck)

7. Best individual week not otherwise in the playoffs (to create an incentive to keep competing)

Best overall record gets a 1st round bye.

We have 14 teams in our league and we did 2 divisions in the past but scrapped it for 1 division last year. Everyone likes it better. With 14 teams everyone plays everyone else once and gets seeded accordingly - it's really the perfect setup.

I was in a League that split 14 teams in 3 divisions (5, 5, 4) each team facing eachother once in 13 regular season games, the winner of each division went to the playoffs in week 15, the next best 4 records had a wildcard playoff in week 14 with the highest score moving on to meet the playoff team with the best record and the other 2 teams facing eachother, then the championship week 16. Worked out okay, you always wanted the draw for the short division of 4 teams, but sometimes that ended up being the strongest division anyway.

Picks 1-5 = Division A

Picks 6-10 = Division B

Picks 11-14 = Division C

So while having one of the last 4 picks may be looked at as somewhat of a disadvantage, you make up for it by having a 1/4 chance to win your division rather than 1/5.

3 division winners and 3 wild cards.

This is our setup exactly.

Same. If you like, a regular season schedule can be concocted where each team plays each other team once.

I'm a big fan of the idea that only ONE Team, the clear-cut BEST Team, should get a bye in Then Playoff Tournament...

...that being said, a 14-Team (or 16-Team) League creates the ideal situation for this: a 7-Team Playoff!

#1 Seed, overall best Team

#2 v #7 (#2 being either the other Division Champ, or in the case of a 1-Division League, the Points Leader, if the overall best Team is determined by record)

#3 v #6

#4 v #5

Playoffs Week 2: 4 Teams remaining...

#1 v the lowest surviving Seed

The two remaning teams

Etc, etc...

Some might argue that half the Teams in the League making the playoffs is cake-y, but I prefer the idea of only ONE Team being worthy of a first-round bye...
