anyone ever play in a 16 team league ? What's my drafting strategy ? I do not know my draft position yet.
I've played in a 16 teamer (that recently dipped to 14). We played 6pt TDs but other stats were pretty traditional. What are your starting positions? Is this a new league or a league you can get draft history from? In leagues of this size it's extremely important to be on the front side of positional runs in semi-scarce positions like QB/TE because you can't simply wait on them and assume you've got a serviceable starter like in 10/12 team leagues. In a 12 team league if you miss out on a big QB run, you can just chomp away at RB/WR/TE because you know that as long as you get in before the backups start coming off the board you'll still get a Kolb/Flacco/Eli type starter. In a 16 team league if you get caught on the wrong side of a run you are forced with the decision to reach for the above mentioned guys, or get stuck with starting guys like Stafford or Young. This same philosophy applies to TE (much moreso in PPR leagues). In my league we started RB/WR/WR/FLEX(WRT)/TE. Given that I always tried to get one stud-ish WR and RB and a 2nd Tier QB.... then flesh out with other higher-upside guys who's schedules matched up well (read FBG's WR3 by committee article for what I'm talking about). Typically I had little trouble getting a solid WR2 and then usually I'd play the best option between RB2 and WR3 in the Flex. If you have enough options and have done your homework then 2-3 of your guys should flesh out nicely. Kickers.. I just waited. It's a crapshoot and the best ones go too early. Our league had pretty DEF heavy scoring so I always waited till the first couple came off the board and then grabbed a Solid (but not elite) one. If your DEF scoring is typical (not inflated) then look into FBG's DEF by Committee article for some good options to target. My thoughts without seeing your scoring system or knowing ANYTHING about your league's drafting history:EARLY PICK: 1) Stud RB (CJ/AD/MJD/RICE/GORE/TURNER)2) QB Unless there's been a run, then best available WR/RB (Depending on starting positions)3) Consider TE in PPR here or if there's been a few off the board already, if not then WR/RB (whatever you didn't take above) 4) QB or TE if you've not taken them - RB/WR if you haveLATE PICk1) Assuming top RBs are gone... go Stud QB (if manning/brees/rogers/romo/brady are on the board) or Stud WR2) IF went QB look for best available WR/RB. If went WR before, then CONSIDER QB here (if you think a run is coming. It's gonna be a while before you pick again. 3) WR/RB (whichever you've not taken...assuming you're getting value here. don't reach). 4) I'm assuming some TE's are gone by now. If there's a top 5 or 6 guy left then grab him... if not then grab Heath Miiller in the 5th or 6th. etc....DO NOT blindly follow. That's merely an idea of how the first couple of rounds could end up unfolding (based on my past experience). We really need to know positional requirements, scoring, and if possible, league history to give solid adviceanyone ever play in a 16 team league ? What's my drafting strategy ? 13 QBs were picked ahead of Kolb? Bunch of NYG homers in your league not wanting to believe the Eagles have a decent QB?Grabbed Kolb in the 6th and he was the 14th QB off the board.
Nope...mostly Midwest Hawks.13 QBs were picked ahead of Kolb? Bunch of NYG homers in your league not wanting to believe the Eagles have a decent QB?Grabbed Kolb in the 6th and he was the 14th QB off the board.

I am in a 16 team league with 14 man rosters and 9 starters (QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 D/ST). Same scoring as above, except 1 point per 30 passing yards.I believe you have to adapt to your draft, but here are some general guidelines I use in this league:- Do not draft more than 1 K or 1 D/ST.- With 16 teams, you can't count on being able to pick up a decent backup QB off the waiver wire. Try to draft a quality backup if at all possible, even if you have a top starter.- No PPR, so the best lineups are those that can start 3 quality RBs. Must end up with 5 RBs if at all possible.- No handcuffing, unless you can get a pair like Williams and Stewart, who can both start.- Try to get a top 8-10 TE and don't draft a backup.- That leaves room for 4 WRs.- If roster is constructed this way - 2 QBs, 5 RBs, 4 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D/ST - you have room for at most one "sleeper" at RB and none elsewhere. Don't draft more than that, as you will need production from everyone else. With my league being 16 teams, it's tougher to find value on the waiver wire, and it's also tougher to work out trades, since teams rarely have a lot of depth.[icon] mentioned it is important to be on the front end of QB and TE runs. I agree, but the degree of importance depends on your draft position. There is a big difference between picking 8th or 9th and picking in the first or last three picks. Our draft is tonight, and I pick 14th.1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K, 1D and only 5 bench playersQB 1/25/4TDRB WR,TE 1/10/6TDDef. 1pt sack, 2pt int, 6td
In the 16 Team leagues I've played in, at least a few owners start taking their backup QB in Round 5 or 6. if you wait until Round 7 you could easily wind up choosing between Mark Sanchez and Matt Cassel as your QB1. Trust me, take your QB1 before Round 4 or you'll be sorry. With 12 teams, Matt Ryan is around the "worst possible starter".People will go Qb too early, I promise you. Let them go, have some guts. You want Rb's and reliable Wr's. You may even decide in rounds 6 and 7 to go QBBC.
