16th pick in a 16 team league. OUCH (1 Viewer)

Tough league. Old league, many members been there for more than 5 years, including three husband and wife teams. I am not saying I am a Shark by any means, but the level of all the teams is Shark-like.

This year we did a numbers on a card thing and had the waitress at Hooters pull em for us. I wound up with the 16th pick. We draft Wed night, before the first game. Scroing is distance based on everything, so longer TDs are worth more as are FGs. Rackers lead the league in scoring the week of the Mexico City game ( I Had him :) ), but no PPR and you draft Team QB and Team PK. No tight end required.

Total Starters: 8

Number of Starting TMQBs: 1

Number of Starting RBs: 2

Number of Starting WR+TEs: 3

Number of Starting TMPKs: 1

Number of Starting Defs: 1

Past results in this league conform to the RB rule. One guy took TO and Moss (the Straight UP Cash Homie one) 1-2 last year on a flyer, (finished 3-10) but other than that, RBs rule it.

So, after doing several mocks in DD, I found a trend to draft RBs 1-4. And then go from there. Anyone have any better ideas? Remeber with Team QB, you have 32 to pick from and with 16 teams, you cant pick up any in waivers.

As far as last year, 16th pick was 5-8 and he slected Julius Jones and Kevin Jones 1.16 and 2.01. As a hard core Lions fan, I know better than to do that.

I checked the pinnd thread and saw no 16th pick thread. So I am tossing this one up here.

One plan, take the best 4 RBs and draft to fill after that.

Two plan, take the best 2 RBs and then handcuff them in 3-4.

Three plan, take Harrison/Holt 1-2 and hope they dont implode ala Moss/Owens last year.

Four plan, take Indy QB/Patriots QB 1-2 and hope for an awesome trade offer.

Another assupmtion, tell me if I am wrong. With NO ppr, and NO TE required, I dont plan on drafting any. Maybe I am still smarting from taking Gonzo in the third round last year.

I am all ears and thank you in advance for offering up tips.

At this spot you have to draft to trade:

grab 2 QBs if you can get McNabb/Hasselbeck... then get 2 RBs in the next series and try to trade up QB/RB for RB/QB

McNabb/Thomas

for

McNair/Rudi Johnson

or something like that

2 QBs won't fly, there's enough in the NFL/FF IMOlike the wheelin' and dealin' notion though

QB and WR then RB and TE
dead serious on thisfurther take a look at trading down to a spot. For example, Isaac Bruce, Keenan, Rod Smith range(use ADP go a little before) do NOT waste your time on 4th=5th round RBs+WRs that'll be just as good as these guys. Trade down get two WR(or 2nd TE if they fall) and a bump in another round.FWIW 4 12 team league round picks=3 16 team league round picks BUT do not expect people to stay formulaic with players going in consecutive 1-100 ranking order. QBs will still go late(for the most part) and some TEs will slip. Any panic on RBs counter with WRs don't jump in the panicFurther on 2 QBs idea, TEs aren't plentiful IMO so feel free to get two, three, four for future trade. Doesn't matter how many it'll work out later. If you get Tony G, Witten, Miller, and Troupe(for far fetched example) one team(at least) doesn't have a good TE IMO and you're a lock for a trade where you hold him ransom.ETA-I don't know you well from this board. I wouldn't recommend playing TE draft games unless you're a savvy FF vet

i disagree. what happens if no trades ever present themselves? i would cross your fingers that one of the big 12 rb falls to you (13 if you count mcg), and if not, go with steve smith and chad johnson.one of the few things ive found over time in my leagues, is that people are always willing to trade for stud wr, usually b/c everybody goes rb-rb all the time. if you can find a rb stacked team, you might be able to eventually trade one of your stud wr for a solid rb-solid wr 2-for-1 deal.best of luck.-biz-

good point. I'd go with best available. Given that it's team QB it may be tough.
not to harp on ya man but IMO best available doesn't fly in 16 team league. In a 12 team you eventually catchup at other positions as value presents itself. The totality of 16 teams drafting picks makes it unlikely that this presents itself. Instead it's more like someone drafting a QB, RB, WR, and TE in every round and planning ahead of time works best IMO.

Obviously it depends on your runs, but I'm one who would be inclined to buck the trend and go WR/WR. At least one of them, depending on who slips at RB. You might check out the WSL's, SSL's, and MBSL's in the Mock Drafts forum to see how those drafts played out; though they are TE-required they should give some good ideas in 16-teamers.

If there was ever a league and a spot to take 2 WRs and just hope to God to get lucky on RBs later on, this is it.
Agreed. Forcing a RB here could spell doom. Unless a surprise RB falls into your lap. WR/WR and then hope for a few RBs to slip to you at 3/4.Good luck.
