1st and 2nd round picks - Players on same team? (1 Viewer)

There are a few situations this year where you can conceivably select a RB/WR combo on the same team with your 1st 2 picks this year. For example, I may select either Rudi Johnson or Steven Jackson with my 5th overall pick this year. I have Chad Johnson and Tory Holt ranked #1 and #2 in my receiver rankings.

So, if I take Rudi 1st and then C. Johnson is sitting there with my 2nd pick, do I take him since he's my #1 WR or do I move to my #2 ranked WR (Holt) to avoid this situation?

I'm trying to strategize for my draft this Wednesday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ross

I rode what would amount to a 1st and 3rd in LT and Gates (14-teams) to my 2nd straight Championship last year.

I have the 3rd pick in the same 14-team league and the table could be set for me to do it again, which I don't see any problems with.

it's generally hard for both to have great games at once, so I think you minimize your point potential by drafting a RB1 and WR1 from the same NFL team...plus you also weaken your team considerably during their shared bye week. however, there's also probably a better chance that at least one of them will have a good game each week so you probably increase your scoring floor as well.

IMO, it's a conservative strategy, but if you're playing to win and you have another WR ranked in the same tier I would probably take him.

While I haven't done so in the past, yesterday Jackson and Holt were my picks. Given those are 2 of my core, getting their byes taken care of simultaniously will be fine by me. Draft solid and utilize your deep bench.

In the perfect 10-team draft strategy article, it mentions to draft the best available player for the top 60 players not worrying about bye weeks. Wouldn't the same hold true for players on the same team?

Last year, in the 3rd round, I would have taken Brian Westbrook, but he had the same bye as one of my top 2 picks, so I went with Curtis Martin instead. We all know the results of that.

I'm really thinking to go with my top rankings for the 1st 5-6 picks, not worrying about bye weeks or teammates. I really don't want to over-analyze my picks....just take the best player.

Any other thoughts on this strategy?

I too went with SJax and Holt as my #1 & #2 this year. I'm in a different situation though as that I'm in a total points league, so one person stealing from the other on a week by week basis really isn't a concern for me. I'm more concerned with the total amount of points put up over the course of the season.

How about QB and RB? I have Hass as a keeper in my auction league and I won't hesitate to add SA if the price is right.

Also have Lamont and would add Moss if it is a value pick up

I beleive best available player period - but it does hurt in the bye week plus you are screwed if they play a real tough defense or just don't have it one week.

I say look at the projections. If your other choice is very close , you gotta go with a 'tier' equivalent (unless of course you're trying to even out your scoring). If anyone knows of a site that can get players' stats accurate enough to say with certainty that player A1 is better than the next highest ranked player A2 (within the same tier of course), let me know.
