1st and goal from the 6 yd line, what play do you call? (1 Viewer)

I see a lot of teams once they get inside the 10 have very different approaches. On 1st and goal from almost any place it seems like teams want to run on 1st down. I don't like this move based on why teams do it. The thinking I have read from most coaches and players is that its safe and if the defense just alows them to run the ball at will why not go the safe route. I believe that thinking is flawed.

I much prefer to pass the ball on 1st down or run play action pass. You can always come back on 2nd down at the 6 and run the ball on what most teams will think is a pass play.

Play action was my first instinct, but it depends on so many factors. What team am I coaching, what's the strength of my QB, RB, Line etc.

On a first down I like a PA of an inside handoff then a WR screen pass where he can just curl towards the inside, with the other WR on his side blocking, as well as the TE.

I'm going to run but not because it's the "safe" play. If my team can't score/gain 6 yards with 3 runs then we don't deserve a TD. Football games are won and lost in the trenches, I'll let my linemen show what they're made of in this scenario.

It all depends who you have on your team. If I've got Peyton Manning, play action over the middle to Dallas Clark is a great call.

If I Adrian Peterson, quick pitch right with some pulling linemen in the dome is a great call.

If I were the Detroit Lions, I'd line up with C.Pepper and do a 3 step drop and run Calvin into the corner then C. Pepper would QB sneak the ball up the middle. It really just depends on who you have.

Fade to oustide WR
One of the plays I hate the most. Very few QB's can throw it correctly and very few WR's are capable of getting enough separation in a short space and still be athletic/tall enough to give the QB a good spot to throw to.Warner to FitzBrady to MossEli to Plax (although not this year)Anyone to CalvinThat was about it. Not even a fan of it using Brees/Colston, Cutler/Marshall, or even Romo/TO. Most others...forget about it.

depends how badly u need that 6 but in early game I'm prob. running play action to TE. Course in close game at end.. Im running PA to TE..
My thought exactly. Good call.

If I'm on the left hashmark, toss/sweep to the strong side or off tackle with the biggest back I have and center it on the field. I'm willing to "waste a down" on a two yard gain if I can set up a pass on second and four from the center hashmark to spread the defense out. From the right hashmark, flood right and pass it to the TE coming over the middle. If I'm already centered, 5 wide and QB sneak.

Throw a TD pass to Mike Vrabel.

(who has roughyl 8 career catches I believe? All for TDs I believe? Like half in playoffs I believe?)

plan A. If I have Fitz, I throw the fade

Plan B if plan A is a no go - If I have good run o-line then i run off tackle

Plan C if Plan B is a no go - Play action naked bootleg
