I've got my annual owners meeting this weekend and there are 2 items we are going to address.

1. possible strike/lockout in 2011. I don't see it happening but what would be the best way to handle contracts? In this pool we can sign players to a max 3 year contract and salaries increase $5 each year. Should 2011 count against the contracts or not? Or should there be some sort of owner option?

2. 18 game season. I do see this happening. I think it would be best to leave it as a 13 game regular season with the superbowl in week 16. I just think there will be even more resting of players if the NFL goes to 18 games. Thoughts?

How will you guys be dealing with these items?

Thanks

I don't think an 18 game season would change much as far as the fantasy season goes. I would probably have a title game in week 17/18 (depending on how many total weeks there are).

From what I've heard they would add 2 games and an extra bye week. So that would mean a 20 week schedule.I just see too many teams resting players moreso then they do now. I wouldn't want to see my championship game any later then week 17.

Can I ask what the point is discussing either of these topics now? Why not just wait until something actually happens and deal with it then. There will also be much more talk and solutions in the FF community to help base your decision on at that time.

Just seems like an unnecessary waste of energy at this time IMO.

From the OP"I've got my annual owners meeting this weekend and there are 2 items we are going to address."

I just can't see wasting too many NFL weeks w/o FFL. NFL teams resting players rewards deep FFL teams.
Really?Best fantasy teams are usually made up of the best players...best players play on the best teams...best teams rest their good players. And in leagues with small rosters it makes a huge difference and really hurts the good teams. To those that say just wait and see...don't you think it would be wise to at least discuss these things in dynasty leagues so you're not scrambling a year from now? Also, teams will be signing and trading players during the summer so they should have some info on this.

I think it makes sense to worry about the lock out potential now because what guys do over the offseason will involve that decision. I suggest that ta your meeting you either just say contracts are binding and the year counts for contracts, and you plan to play the year for however many games get played with real players and let people extend and sign with that in mind, or else that you agree that if a lockout happens you will just roll contracts over to the next season and play the disputed season as a freebie with the rosters intact but no contract years exhausted? It seems to me that the first is probably fairer, but that may depend on your league rules and how people in the leageu feel about it.

But I don't think you can talk much about schedules until you know if its 17, 18 or 20 weeks? I guess you could try to decide that whatever it is, your championship will be the last weekend, the second to last weekend or the third to last? But I think you may end up having that discussion all over again when the schedule is actually decided and people are thinking it through?

Best luck. Should be a couple of interesting discussions.
