2 months before Floyd died, Edward Bronstein met a similar fate (1 Viewer)

A federal judge ordered the CHP to release the bodycam footage this week.

Edward refused to cooperate with a DUI blood draw.  But as soon as he was pushed to the ground, Edward cried and said he would do it willingly.  4 more cops knelt on top of him.  For 2 minutes, Edward moaned and said he could not breathe.  Then he went quiet.  The medic continued to draw Edward's blood for 6 minutes.  Edward never responded again.

This is infuriating to watch.

In fact I couldn't watch.

That is flat out killing a man.

Murder.

Tell me these people are being held accountable.

I agree. The callousness is brutal.  It looked like the medic and cops couldn't find strong signs of life multiple times and the medic continued to draw the slow moving blood.

Dear God.  How did it take 2 years and a Court Order to release this video?  How did the internal police investigation find them not at fault?  I hope this story doesn't become racialized and we focus on the core issues that desperately need to be addressed - better training, a change in tactics, perhaps even federal guidelines...

According to his family Edward was terrified of needles.  One of my best friends has this condition and it's a huge deal.  He has to be completely knocked out to get his blood drawn.

You'd think, right General?  But I also would have assumed that this video would have been released 2 years ago when it happened.
Yep. Now that it is out there will be justice I am confident.

I don’t know the reasoning as to why it took this long and had to be done by a judge but that will be reviewed as well I assume.

That’s really the key to this story imo.  Who polices the police?  We’ve got to come around that.

Terrible. Who knows how many similar killings have happened. My hope is that the gigantic public outrage and media coverage that George Floyd’s murder received caused enough police forces to review practices to make this sort of thing much rarer these days and in the future.

the only difference here is that there were no cell phones to record this actions by bystanders.

I wonder what the national reaction would be if the roles were reversed and Flyod passed in the back loading dock of a PO station and this guy was the one on the street?

The police kill around 1,000 people every year.  I think qualified immunity and warrior mindset heavily influence their daily decisions.

I misspoke in saying this was bodycam footage that was released.  The cops were actually filming with the intention of using this as a training video.  If not for that, it would just be another death among the hundreds which are only remembered by the testimony of the officers involved.  The coroner’s office attributed Bronstein’s death to “acute methamphetamine intoxication during restraint by law enforcement,” though it declared the cause as “undetermined."

couple of year before that

it happens, it shouldn't but it has

Imagine how much of this #### went down before cell phones and body cams provided at least some small chance the murderers would get caught.

Growing up in my hometown I heard stories that the cops would take drunks down to the other side of the flood wall under the bridge and beat the hell out of them.  Didn't really believe it then, but have no problem thinking they're true today.

As bad as Floyd if not worse as more than one was involved.

Also I have had blood drawn many times and for that small amount it takes about 30 seconds.  Why 6 minutes??

I have no medical training but I assume his heart was no longer pumping properly.  He may have had a faint pulse as his body did the dying agonal breathing.

So since when do we draw blood from suspects in the back parking garage?  If this had happened in a hospital maybe they could have saved him.  That video was hard to watch.

I’m guessing this happens al the time. Seems like they had a procedure here.

@Caveman33 wrote above that they wanted to make this a training video.
I think it is also normal to have it at the arresting jail.  That looks like the entrance/garage.  I had my blood drawn inside the next room at the jail, but I was cooperating and I don't like needles.  (I just look away, it doesn't hurt if the medic is competent).

Here’s a bit more info

Family lawsuit got the video released.
Yep, and none of the officers have been arrested.  The government had filed an appeal to keep the video private but the judge rejected it on Tuesday.  If you search for the story, all the outlets have covered it in last few days but I haven't seen it come across my Yahoo(aggregate feed).  Just happened to come across it on an urban subreddit last night.  It's dark humor, but that thread had me laughing for it's honesty https://www.reddit.com/r/PhillyWiki/comments/th67u1/so_do_we_riot_or_chalked_because_hes_white/
