20+ MLB players to be suspended? Braun, A-Rod? (1 Viewer)

its pretty funny how the biggest cheater out of them all will be the only one playing today
ARod is certainly the most famous, but how is he a bigger cheater than any of the rest of them?
ARod has already stated he used his 3 years in Texas
Hard to call that cheating back then when there were no tests and no penalties. Besides, it's highly doubtful the people being suspended all started with Biogenesis.
Maybe. Alex has done more damage to the game and the league then Pete Rose ever did.

Although maybe this is good for Pete. Maybe someone will finally get over themselves and let Pete back.
Dude, you are obviously biased. Probably because of the horrible deal your team made and can't get out from under. Guys like McGuire Bonds and Sosa did WAY more damage with their cheating and lying than ARod has. He hasn't broken any major records. He's just going to ber known as one of the cheaters. The other guys ruined the cherished record books.

As far as Pete Rose goes, he bet on baseball. As a manager. He may have influenced his own games in order to make money. ARod was one of hundreds. Rose was alone/
And McGuire and Sosa and Bonds did more damage than Rose did too. I know you want to get me in a box, but you won't. Again, I don't care if the Yankees have to pay him. I've never once argued that the Yankees should get the contract voided. Now, I can keep typing that, but at some point it has to sink in, doesn't it?

All of these guys who have "bastardized" the game did more harm than Pete Rose who only bet on his team to win. And even if he did something else, he has served his punishment and him being erased from baseball as much as they can is a joke.

There is one cardinal sin in baseball. One transgression that is on the walls of each clubhouse. It ain't PEDs.

Officially suspended through 2014 for "attempting to cover up his violations of the program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's investigation". Suspension is for "use and possession of numerous PEDs over course of multiple years"

All of these guys are Hispanic, right?

eta: and before someone flies off the handle, it's just something I happened to notice.
Has more to do with which PED operation happened to get busted and where it was located IMO.
Plenty of businesses larger than MLB have institutionalized racism. It wouldn't surprise me that the league has declined to investigate certain leads due to the race of the players implicated.
you're special.
Must be nice to believe you live in a society without racism.
Must be nice to throw a blanket over everyone/everything and assume the worst.

Becasue Charlie Comiskey was a cheap bastidge and his team revolted.

211 games, which means the suspension begins Thursday.

I just wish he would do the right thing and accept the suspension and/or crawl away and die. Is there any non-moron who will be cheering for this guy? Take your millions and have a good life. Everything he accomplished on the field is a footnote.

Because you never want to give players incentives to play to lose. Players taking PEDs are playing to win.

agreed.

And even if he didn't bet on the Reds to lose, a bet not placed on the Reds for a given day said as much as the bet placed on the Reds the next day.

ARod had done work with the Taylor Hooten Foundation?

Anti-steroid group cuts ties with Alex Rodriguez in wake of MLB drug suspensionBY MICHAEL O'KEEFFE

Alex Rodriguez was supposed to host the Taylor Hooton Foundation’s annual fund-raiser at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, and while the Yankees’ steroid-stained slugger will continue to play as he appeals his 211-game suspension, he has been benched as an associate of the THF:

Here is a statement issued by the Taylor Hooton Foundation after Rodriguez was suspended by MLB for 211 games on Monday:

McKinney, TX (August 5, 2013)– The Taylor Hooton Foundation, widely acknowledged as the leader in the advocacy against performance enhancing drug use by the youth of America, has issued the following statements regarding today’s suspension of Alex Rodriguez by Major League Baseball.

“It is with sadness and disappointment that we learned today that Alex Rodriguez has once again violated the rules of Major League Baseball by using illegal substances,” said Don Hooton, Taylor Hooton Foundation president.

“We have had a good relationship with Rodriguez since early 2009 when we stood with him at his press conference in Tampa. There, he issued his public mea culpa, committed that he would not be involved in the future with banned substances, and said that he wanted to help us to encourage kids to stay away from them. He offered to use his situation as an example to let them know that it is not right for them to use performance enhancing drugs. Working together, we’ve delivered messages to thousands of kids and have impacted their lives in a positive way. But, today’s announcement leaves us no option but to discontinue our relationship with Alex Rodriguez.”
Lance Armstrong has to be loving this guy.

Personally I dont think Rose did that much damage to baseball and he should be in the Hall of Fame.

However you have very selective memory when it comes to McGuire and Sosa and Bonds. Baseball was just coming back from a strike that canceled a World Series. Bud Selig and the owners needed the PED's at that time to bring back the fans or baeball would not be where it was today. You could argue that PED's at the time saved the game of baseball and brought back the fans. "chicks dig the long ball" remember those commericals. And while there is no proof of MLB being behind it, I am 100% sure they knew about it and encouraged it. (cannot prove it)

So since the game is in good standing because of the PED's back at that point. So if you really want to say who has hurt the game the most look at Bud Selig. I am sure fans of the Expos (even though the owner is a really bad owner) would love to have 1994 post season back, and maybe it would of saved the Expos.

Yank, I generally agree with your vantage point on this issue, but I do disagree with the Rose point.

It's one thing to cheat to win. It's wrong. It calls into account fair play and the integrity of the game. However, it does so with the intent of being better, stronger, faster - putting yourself and your team (albeit unfairly) in a better position to win.

When you have a manager betting on games, betting on his own team, that puts into question the very word SPORT. Because now you have to question if the guy / team is really doing its best to win. While not nearly a situation like the black sox / throwing games, the idea that Rose might very well save a reliever... or have a pitcher go too long in a game - to preserve his gamble at the risk of hurting his teams ability to win the next game, games or more, that, imo, calls into account the very integrity not just of the playing field, but of this being sport at all.

Of course, Pete did himself no favors afterward. He was stupid in agreeing to what he did and more stupid in being an arrogant idiot since... otherwise he likely would be back in one way or another. But that's another story.

I want Bud to drop the atomic hammer on Arod.
Can't stand the Yanks, not a fan of Bud's at all. A-rod has been and is a joke and not worthy of much respect.

That said, I'm 100% against an outcome that hurts A-rod but lets the Yanks off scott free, which is what they want. Baseball and the Yanks and this seeming desire to work together to nail A-rod smells. Baseball and the Yanks are culpable in this mess also, and neither should be spared the wrath of their decisions and actions to date.
:goodposting:

The Yankees seem to think that they could enjoy the great production this guy delivered for years and now that he's a bit older and they want out from under that idiotic contract they signed him to, they can let the commissioner do their dirty work while they wash their hands of the matter.

Why do you not like A-Rod? He brought your team its most recent tainted championship. He is a True Yankee and you should worship him.
I've said before, I'll gladly give up all the WS titles we won with ARod, Giambi, and Clemens if the Red Sox give up the titles they won with Manny and Ortiz

The Pete Rose that broke the hit record via a corked bat and having a manager that didn't care about his lack of performance while writing his name into the lineup everyday? You are correct we all looked the other way just like we initially did with McGuire and Sosa so the damage to the game was brushed aside.

so I don't follow baseball closely anymore. Why is ARods suspension so much longer than everyone else's?

You are taking me a little out of context. I don't care about drugs. I've said so. Aaron used them. So did Mantle. I don't think they are that bad. The big deal they are now i think just dwarfs what Rose did.

McGuire? Really?

Any relation to Sammy Susa, Ryan Brawn, Roger Clemons, or Nelson Cruise?
Montos, stop being an ###.
Okay, Lamp Ditka.I just don't understand why that fellow's name is repeatedly spelled wrong. He was on TV many times and there have been books and magazines and newspapers with his name in them.
Because it's spelled stupidly and any tarnishing a random internet misspelling can do to it pales in comparison to what he did to it via his actions.
