2006 Consensus WR Rankings (1 Viewer)

Islander

Footballguy
Please post your 2006 WR rankings here. Assume standard scoring, redraft. We will simply calculate the average rankings based on everybody's list to get something close to what an ADP would be if we had to draft in the next few days or weeks.

Several things are still unsettled like the NFL draft, free agents, coaching changes, etc. You should make your rankings based on all info you have available today, as if your FFL draft was tomorrow.

We'll start a similar thread for Ds and Ks later.

FBGs do their consensus rankings after the NFL draft and I don't want to wait until late April to get a rough idea consensus rankings at key positions.

This is a really good breakdown, OZ. Question...where do you see Koren Robinson falling into these forecasts? Is he in the 25-35 range or 45-55? Imo, if he continues to tighten up and fly straight, he could be a steal at many drafts next year, pending which team he signs with and in what role. Got him as a keeper and I need a #2 to go with Larry, so maybe Im reaching.

Whats funniest is Moose at 13. So ranking him at 13, if you had your choice of WR's outside of the 1st 12 (to be your #2 in a standard 12-team league), would you seriously take Muhammad?? I'd be surprised if Muhammad ever 1) broke 1,000 yards again, 2) is the #1 WR in Chicago by the end of next season.

Thanks. I had written K-Rob in under both of these categories, but in the end opted to put him lower, and leave him off. If I had gone deeper, probably 31-40 range.

Why the huge drop off for Joe Horn?

The guy was in the top 10s at the beginning of this past season and is now near 30. What a injury riddled season will do.

For leagues that play TEs as the same position as WRs, I would rank Gates around 10-12.

For these types of leagues (4 of my 5 league do this), Gates is a solid #2 WR/TE.

I think Horn will be a steal in redraft league. Maybe not a #1 WR but a solid #2.

Actually if Grossman can stay healthy, this ranking is accurate IMO. Muhammad can put up solid #2 numbers with a somewhat competent qb. And Grossman is at least that.

I won't argue against the projection, but Moose has had 3 years in his 10 year career where he was a good starter in FF. 2004 was a career year due to circumstances. In order to reasonably consider Moose as a top 15 WR, you're projecting either Rex to stay healthy or Orton to improve, and the Bears D to give up leads, requiring the offense to throw more. I just don't see it, others may.

In order to reasonably consider Moose as a top 15 WR,
Often times I think in 12s. IMO he's saying Moose would be one of the top #2 WRs on a team in his league. Still high but if it's an FF league in Chicago drinking some Moose flavored KoolAid...to each his own I guess. Similarly in your rankings I don't think Matt Jones is a #2 in FF. He may be next year but he's not considerred that yet. You could make him your #25 WR(first #3) and still get him. Also, the beauty of liking a guy like him is that you can "blow off" any impressive plays he does in preseason and say "yeah I've seen that before" and keep his draft value low.

Nobody ever agrees or gets these right anyway, so I'll chime in
This is a really good breakdown, OZ.
:goodposting: IMO setting tiers is and drafting by them is more important than ranking players at every single spot. As OZ mentioned, preseason rankings rarely match postseason rankings.

How is Chambers risky? The guy has scored 29 TDs in the last three years with virtually no quarterback. He deserves to be in the top ten on any list.

I know he did great with Gus, and pretty well before him, but show me who his QB is before saying he has no risk. Keep in mind, he got 460 of his 1118 yards in 3 games. and 6 of his 11 TDs in 4. For a month, he was an extremely hot player, but before 11/27, he didn't have a 100 yard game all season.

I obviously like his talent, but acknowledge the risk. Granted, there's less risk with him than the others in the tier, and arguably no more so than with Plaxico.

Steve Smith

Santana Moss

Donald Driver

Hines Ward

Darrell Jackson

Rod Smith

Javon Walker

Tier 3

Guys who had bounceback/breakout years but we aren't 100% sure about yet, guys who were good two years ago looking to bounce back, vets who used to be tier 2 or 3 but are falling and vets who are solid but unspectacular.

Eddie Kennison

Jimmy Smith

Reggie Wayne

Donte Stallworth

Derrick Mason

Antonio Bryant

Andre Johnson

These are guys I may be looking at in redrafts next year. Long live the stud running back theory! .... along with the "Antonio Gates" theory.

Thanks for the lists guys

Here is the consensus so far based on rankings from UnknownCoach, mueller54, Crippler, DoctorDetroit, harrycarey, -OZ-, Little Big Head, and myself. I also included the order in which WRs were drafted in WSL1and WSL2.

Two more ranking lists not in this thread: USA Todayand LHUCKS.

So in total that's 12 lists - not bad at all.

Nice breakdown. I would substitute Andre Johnson for Matt Jones however. If Miami can somehow pry Matt Shaub from Atlanta Chambers will definitely be in the second highest category IMO.

Thanks, and you're right (to a degree). I will bump AJ up to #19 and include him in the same tier.

why no love for Roy Williams? Martz is coming to town, and he's got a couple of years under his belt...

I notice Randy Moss still firmly entrenched in the top 5 here so far in spite of the all the  surrounding the Raiders 2006 QB. If Brooks is at the helm is he still a definitive top 5?

Sure,He seem to be injury prone the last few years and even when he is healty he takes alot of plays off. Looks to me like his heart hasn't been in it the last two years at all. If his QB is Brooks he might be able to crack the top 10, but if Oak does not upgrade the QB position at all........geez

Great #2, but either inconsistent or I have questions

Might be good values, or overpriced.

Thanks. I had written K-Rob in under both of these categories, but in the end opted to put him lower, and leave him off. If I had gone deeper, probably 31-40 range.

A bit risky, but stud potential

18. Matt Jones
Is the  a question, your commentary that I have him too high, or echoing my original  at his potential?
Both. He's too high (one tier lower with the rest of those type guys) and he has too many competing WR's on the team.

I notice Randy Moss still firmly entrenched in the top 5 here so far in spite of the all the  surrounding the Raiders 2006 QB. If Brooks is at the helm is he still a definitive top 5?

I know it's a not a popular belief but I think Randy's days as a dominate FFL WR are over. He's not in my top 5

I look at it this way - Joe Horn was never worse than 14 with Brooks as QB from 2000-2004. Moss was 15th last year despite terrible play by Collins. Brooks is an upgrade over Collins and Moss is coming into his 2nd year with the Raiders and is still only 29. Moss will be a huge value in 2006 if he drops past WR6.

I actually said this to a good Vikings friend of mine at the end of the 2004 season.Based on things he's said before, it seems he has poor workout habits and that combined with his age/size is finally catching up with him.

I'd still put him in tier two though.
