I find Slaton to be very interesting this year since he seems to cancel out most of the higher priced RBs. Between him and Warner the focus of this contest has gone away from QBs and RBs towards WRs, in fact I'd wager the winner of this contest will be the team with the strongest WR core.

I have a fairly unique team, but I haven't cracked 200 since week 4 so I am not sure how well I can hang with the big boys these last 3 weeks. I looked into this a little. First I totally ignored all teams except for the final 250. Then I looked back at the last three weeks. Here are the averages by position:

In other words, the average still-live team scored 89 points from their QBs in the last three weeks, 145 from their RBs, and so on.
Now, here's how the "winner" (i.e. the guy with the highest point total for weeks 11-13) stood in relation to those averages:

I think it'll come down to WRs and TEs, unless Slaton has a bad three-week stretch, in which case it'll come down to RBs, TEs, and WRs. If Warner has a bad three-week stretch, QBs will play a role as well.
But I don't think kicker and defense are going to the prime differentiators, because there's simply a limit on how crazy they can go. If Neil Rackers goes off, he earns you an extra 20 points more than Prater over three weeks. If Adrian Peterson goes off, he could earn you 50 or 60 points more than Steve Slaton.

Very interesting. I guess I didn't account for regression to the mean over a three week period at the K and D position. A lot of potential big scoring TEs out there not widely held. A 10/120/2 week at TE would be huge at this time.What I anticipate is 1/2 of the field being virtually eliminated in week one due to the commonality of players. Ks, Ds, and TEs will play a large part in this separtion. They do have significant importance, especially relative to the low over point totals they put up. Maybe it would have been better stated to say that Ks and Ds won't win this contest for you but they definately will cause people to lose it.

More than half my team has less than 50 people with the same players. Don't know how I feel about that. I am really disappointed with the play of Jamal Lewis this season as I expected him to be decent this year. Maybe he's been saving it for the next 3 weeks. Also.. Go KC D!!

I feel kind-of stupid for overlooking TEs since a major part of my strategy this year was taking strong tight ends, but these stats are very interesting. I guess it goes without saying a huge part of this contest is built around a player with small ownership going nuts, but those numbers seem to prove that the commonly owned players can play a major effect on how much those players can impact your team. If Warner and Slaton have a bad three weeks we could have a very interesting and dramatic end to the contest as the two players that were nearly critical to getting into the final 250 could flip around and have little impact on the end-game of the contest. In fact it looks like if you are weak at RB and QB you should be rooting for those two (as long as you own them!), and if you are strong there you should root against them.Doug Drinen said:

I love how 'out of the box' our team is at this point. I realize that our WR's aren't stellar compared to some, but man, Clatyon and Ginn (and if Rice ever remembers he's a WR) have been big and could play huge roles for this team going forward!
Not to mention we're one of a handful of teams w/o Slaton.
