2009 D/STs (1 Viewer)

I don't see a whole lot of discussion on team D/STs around here lately...

I usually don't draft a defense until the final rounds of my re-draft league, so I won't have the Steelers or Giants D/ST on my team.

I am specifically intrigued by the move of Rex Ryan from Balt to NYJ, does this move make either team stand out for you?

What's everybody's thoughts on SD, DAL, CHI, SEA? Are there any D/STs you are targeting this year?

Like you, I won't spend an earlier pick on my D. Judging from the mocks I've been doing, Pitt, NYG, Balt, Jets, Minnesota all go before round 10. I had thought about snagging the Eagles with an 11th or 12th rd pick if they're there, but I'm more inclined to wait another round or two and go either Dallas or San Diego.

Dallas showed some real signs last year, have a great pass rush, and if their secondary improves could be a great FF D this year.

SD is coming off a real down year but get Merriman back and added English, and seem to be ranked/ADP somewhere @ 12 or 13. A bounce back year gets you a top flight FF D.

So most likely I'll be targeting either one of these late if I can get them.

Super sleeper Ds, if I can't pull that off, are Arizona, San Francisco, and New Orleans (Greg Williams new coordinater, added Sharper at FS). Edit to add: One problem with NO is the possibility of both starting DEs being suspended 1st 4 games. If that happens, I pass on them.

i like to follow the secondaries and sacks. defenses are going to give up yards, they are going to give up points and really you never know the strenght of the D or the potentcy of the offense they are up against.

i figure the best secondaries, and amount of sacks = a good front 7 that works well together, stops the run, and gives a chance for run backs and INTs. returns are random, they are nice but that is more about team chemistry and qualithy of opposing special teams.

this year i like the eagles and the patriots. patriots because they will not be on the field as much which is a really good thing with brady back in the mix, and the eagles because they have a good front 7, and added ellis hobbs to go along with a offense that should put pressure to pass, i just like them.

Aren't the 2 Williams out for Minn too.

They are in for now but I don't like the idea of possibly losing 2 DL to suspension at some point in the season. If they have any injuries outside of those guys the MIN D/ST could simply implode by our FF playoffs.
