Go 'Phins!

I'm being conservative in my prediction of 9-7 for the season. A win tomorrow will be a big statement to start the season.

On board for this. Dolphins will need to establish the running game early and often with Ronnie Brown this year if they are to be successful.

Six games against 2008 playoff teams (four division winners), two others against NE, five others against other teams that finished at or above .500 last season.

I'd say 9-7 is far from conservative. More power to you, as that's what being a fan is all about.

Realistically I'm thinking more 8-8 but feel they'll steal a game somewhere to get to 9-7. If Ginn can continue to improve, Fasano becomes a key player and the running game holds their own they'll be in most games. I think the D will be steady. I wouldn't mind if they added Matt Jones to their roster.

I just took another look at the schedule, and I can definitely see 8-8 so why not 9-7. It's still not clear to me how much talent is in Miami. I thought the turnaround last year was remarkable, but I'm still questioning how much of it was smoke and mirrors (i.e., wildcat) and how much of it can be counted on moving forward. Good luck, as that projects to be a tough schedule. I have a lot of friends who are Dolphin fans and they are all class acts and knowledgeable, too.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if they finish any better than 8-8. Year 2 of Parcells usually is a step back.

Hoping the Oline can become a force and that the revamped secondary can start to become a strength for this team.

I think they're another year away from becomng serious playoff contenders.

GO DOLPHINS !!!

Week 1 for the Phins is definately a "statement" week. This will tell alot about how the entire season will unfold for the team with (possibly) the toughest schedule in the NFL.

Atlanta is a good up and coming team, Matt Ryan, Turner, Roddy White.....

Will Ronnie Brown finally get back to his pre-injury form?

Will the Oline hold up?

Will Ted Ginn finally become the big play WR that they need?

Will the Defense be able to stop the other #1 recievers? (such as Roddy White this week)?

Will the Phins be in a position later in the season to keep Chad Pennington starting? or will they change to Chad Hanne?

Alot of questions will be answered this week and throughout the season.

All, I have to say is

 "Go Phins" :goodposting:

I wasn't sure about this so I looked into it. Turns out not be be the case although he's not the head coach so I'm not sure how relavant it is anyway:NYG - 1983 - (3-12)NYG - 1984 - (9-7)NE - 1993 - (5-11)NE - 1994 - (10-6)NYJ - 1997 - (9-7)NYJ - 1998 - (12-4)DAL - 2003 - (10-6)DAL - 2004 - (6-10)MIA - 2008 - (11-5)MIA - 2009 - (???)It'll be awfully tough to top last season's 11-5 record so a second year step back is likely. If they can sneak into the playoffs and maybe win a game that would be great experience moving forward. I do agree that they are a year away still, but you never know!GO DOLPHINS!!!

Armondo Salguero (Herald) just blogged that Pat White will be running the spread offense today. Ronnie will be the Wildcat triggerman. Sounds like the staff is going to get crazy again this year - should be fun!

Why would they get crazy, the Wildcat stopped working after 4 weeks last year. Just run the damn ball and play some D with Joey Porter and Jason Taylor

The wildcat did not stop working - it just stopped producing huge plays ever time they used it. They still have a solid average using it, and they still kept D-coordinators on their toes and required additional gameplanning every week. That was chapter 1 also, more to come...just watch.

Cameron Wake among Dolphin inactives today. Thats a surpirse...

Other inactives:

safety Chris Clemons, offensive guard Shawn Murphy, offensive tackle Andrew Gardner, defensive end Lionel Dotson, wide receiver Patrick Turner, tight end John Nalbone and linebacker Cameron Wake

Also, Pat White is listed as the #2 QB. Henne is #3. That means if Henne comes in before the fourth quarter, neither of the other two QB's can return to the game.

I imagine we will be seeing some wildcat today....coooooool!

Go Phins!
Thinking we may have overpaid horribly for Gibril Wilson. Wasnt tackling supposed to be his strength? He got embarrassingly run over twice for TDs. May lose his starting job soon. Maybe the Earnest Wilford of the defense for Parcells and staff?I am still reeling from that loss...

Huge early season game for the Dolphins. Don't want to start off 0-3. They've done a good job of containing the other team's #1 WR. Hopefully they can manage to supply a little help over the middle to contain Gates.

Let's see if this is the week they put it all together and come away with the W.

Keep tossing it to Ginn! He should've caught that ball, but it's nice to see how he's progressing. Expect to see more of Fasano in the passing game.

Bills and Jets coming to Miami before the bye. A 3-2 record would be great heading to the break.

Go Phins!

The Dolphins of last year over achieved and had a lot of lucky things happen, Favre sucking, Brady getting hurt, and almost no turnovers.

The Wildcat to me was a desperation attempt used against the Pats to beat a better football team. The trickery worked and now everyone does it. I don't understand why some teams do though, they have the talent to not need to use it. Miami is still a work in progress and will need gimmicks and everything to gain an advantage, they are headed in the right direction but will definitely take a step or two back and not win the division and most likely miss the playoffs. Next season should be different though!

The problems now are that Pennington is a good game manager but he's not going to win any games for them. The running game is good but it is not dominant. Ted Ginn is not a number 1 receiver and never will be. He may make an average number 2 guy but really he belongs on special teams or in the slot.

I think that Miami was hoping to swing a deal for Boldin or someone but Parcells didn't like the price and he's not going to overpay.

I see this season as another building block on a team that was pretty much run dry with almost 10 years of bad drafts, we are definitely headed in the right direction, we just need to keep heading there.

Vincent Jackson is #1 now, or if he's not, it's a 1A and 1B situation.

I realize that. I was saying that hopefully they can continue to contain the #1 (Jackson) and somehow provide help over the middle to limit Gates, since the TE position has killed them in the first 2 weeks.

Sorry if I misread your post. If I remember correctly, the TE has been a problem for a year or two with the Dolphins. It's not just a 2009 thing.

You do make a great point. They've had a habit of being beaten in the short game for a while now.

Obviously thrilled with the victory vs. the Jets but I'm not buying the Henne hype yet, and I'm a Michigan fan. I do like the way they appear to be bringing him along, keeping the pressure off of him but allowing him to make the plays when he needs it most. Cannot wait for the Saints game. If they can manage a victory...

I know I'm insane, but this season is starting a lot like the 2001 Patriots season. The 2nd year Parcells disciple starting the season winless. The unheralded Michigan QB coming in for the injured starter. It's wild.

If the Phins finish 11-5 and get a first round bye I'm booking Super Bowl tickets!

Remember that game last year (?) against the NEP where Ronnie Brown debuted the Wildcat? I have a feeling we're going to see some cool new plays against NO tomorrow to keep pace with their offense. Should be fun.

What has you worried about Henne?

I'm not worried about Henne. I just like to wait for teams to adjust gameplans against rookie QB's before I get too excited. These next three games will go a long way in determining how ready he is.

5-2 as a starter. Can't complain.
