2009 NFL Draft Running Back Rankings (1 Viewer)

COnsider having a quick link menu so you can cycle through QB, RB, WR, etc. I would like to easily get from this page to QBs for example

Every time I start to feel uneasy about having the #5 pick in my rookie draft, Bloom talks me off the ledge. :goodposting:

I need a RB and I think I'll be happy with either Brown or McCoy (or Wells or Moreno if guys with 1-4 drop the ball).

It's still going to be hard to bypass Maclin though, considering I also have the #10 pick.

Looks pretty good. I really think we got stuck with a weak crop this year. There are probably 4-5 WRs in this class that I'd be willing to draft in the first round if I were an NFL GM, but I wouldn't take any of these RBs in the top 32.

I actually like Moreno despite the fact that I've been critical of him. I think he's a good football player and a fairly safe bet to be a decent pro, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of dynamic talent who warrants a top 25 pick. Running 4.6 at 210 pounds is just ugly. I know he gets the most out of his ability, but I wonder how he'll fare in the NFL against bigger and faster defenders. Cadillac was more dynamic and he has been mediocre in the NFL. I think Moreno could put up Lynch type numbers, but anything more would require a great situation IMO (and Lynch is a better athlete, so that might be too optimistic).

Wells will show flashes of greatness and he could keep it together long enough to look like a stud for a year or two, but I'll never draft him on my FF team for reasons you've touched upon. With his attitude and durability problems, I don't think he'll be a long term success. Interesting redraft guy if he lands on a team that needs a starter though.

I may have downgraded McCoy too severely for his pro day. I love his quickness on the field, but he's a runt and he bombed his workouts. That's two big strikes for me. There's enough risk here to bump him down my board several spots.

I can't get behind Donald Brown. With his production and combine, I should be a huge fan, but something doesn't smell right here. I'm not buying him in any leagues. I think he's JJ Arrington. If there's anyone in this class that I'm dead wrong about though, it's probably Brown.

Peerman profiles as a guy who could emerge as a surprise starter. I like him at his cost in both the NFL and FF.

I think Shonn Greene gets dinged because he isn't a flashy talent, but he has the best frame in this class and one of the best sets of combine numbers. He doesn't have much burst or long speed, but his feet are excellent and he's a fluid runner. He also carried a mediocre offense on his back last season, logging 100+ yards in every single game. He's the RB we disagree on most this year. I don't think he's a stud, but I think he can be Rudi Johnson or LenDale White easily.

I've moved Rashad Jennings up in my rankings because he's a big guy and it seems like he could be drafted into a good short term opportunity, but I don't believe in his talent.

I get the sense that Andre Brown could be picked earlier than the general public expects. Possibly as RB4 in the 2nd round. I'm not a huge believer. He has a bit of a Chris Henry vibe to him and he might be a better athlete than football player, but there's an intriguing size/speed combo here. Worth a gamble for the upside as the 4th-6th RB off the board in FF leagues, IMO.

Great stuff Bloom, i agree with your rankings for this class more than i do with any rankings i've seen so far on this site.

I LOVE the fact that you haven't dropped McCoy to RB6+ because he had a poor day jumping at his pro day. If people actually watch him play, they will figure out that his poor ability to jump far or jump high hasn't prevented him from being a successful running back. At worst he's going to be an elite 3rd down back with his elite quickness, great hands, good jukes, and nose for the first down marker. The major problem i have with him is that at times he falls down to easily after contact, and he doesn't lower his shoulder often enough. When he does he has no problem breaking arm tackles. And i think with NFL coaching they will help him out in that regard.

The only thing i really disagree on is that i like Greene more than Beanie, but i acknowledge i'm in the slim minority there.
