2009 NFL Supplemental Draft (1 Viewer)

Saw that Detroit is interested in Jeremy Jarmon, DE out of Kentucky.

What's the scoop? Any insights as to who'll be picked and who'll have FF impact?

There are 8 players in the supplemental draft:

DE:

Jeremy Jarmon, Kentucky

McKinner Dixon, Texas Tech

LB:

Blake Boyd, Western Kentucky

DB:

Demetrice Morley, Tennessee

WR:

Torris Magee, Southern Mississippi

Corey Surrency, Florida State

Deon Murphy, Kansas State

OL:

Joe McMahon, Central Michigan

Of these, I expect Jarmon will get picked in rounds 4-5 (he has talent, but he also has baggage).

It is possible that Surrency or Morley get picked in round 7.

In any event, I see no Fantasy impact as it relates to any of these players.

I'm not saying that supplemental draftees have no chance of ever becoming viable fantasy players, but here are the CAREER totals of the two (2) skill position player selected in the last 15 suplemental drafts . . .

John Davis, TE, 88 fantasy points

Tony Hollings, RB, 22 fantasy points

There were a couple of Pro Bowlers taken (G Mike Wahle and DT Jamal Williams), but skill position guys don't seem to come along very often.

There were some much bigger names taken in the supplemental draft before then (Rob Moore, Bobby Humphey, Cris Carter, Bernie Kosar, and of course the zaniness surrounding the 1984 supplemental draft). Normally, though, the supploemental draft has been pretty ho hum in recent memory.

I could see a team like the Broncos, who are in need of defensive help, putting in a 4th round bid on Jarmon. I don't know if they would chance going as high as a 3rd round bid, but a 4th round bid could happen. Aside from that, I can't see any of these other players being bid on. At best, they will need to hope that they get picked up as a FA after the supplemental draft.

Supplemental draft it seems like players go a round or two later than they would in a regular draft. There has definitely been value in past drafts. I am pretty sure Offensive Tackle Jared Gathier was a supplemental pick by the Ravens, and I know they are pretty high on his future.

Schefter got it right - Jarmon in the 3rd. Redskins took him in the 3rd round. Appears Detroit was waiting to use their 4th rounder for Jarmon.

Noone else was picked.

Nice pickup for the Skins. Going to be a solid rotational end, with the potential to be even more in the future.

Jarmon should be the only pick and Adam Schefter believes he will go no later than the 3rd round.

Our view: Jarmon doesn't have any major character problems despite his positive test from taking a banned supplement. Third round wouldn't be a major reach.
This the Redskins we're talking about. Do you still feel this way?
 yes, it is Dan Snyder! Sig commented on that story, but I figured someone would spend a 3rd round pick on him. When Jarmon first declared for the supplemental draft I sent out a few emails to people in the scouting community just to get a gauge of where his draft stock was. Every answer I got back was somewhere between the 3rd and 5th round. I really thought Detroit would step up and get him because they're looking for additional help on the DLine (John Thornton recently told them thanks but no thanks). And as Bloom pointed out DeWayne White and Cliff Avril are not very good vs. the run.

The Redskins basically put on a clinic today on how to work the supplemental draft. The rest of the league should take notes.

Stealing Jarmon right in front of Detroit is the proverbial cherry on top of the best offseason the Skins have had since Snyder bought the team, imo.
