Pretty uninspiring group this year.

I'm curious to see how Barden and Robiskie perform. Looking at the other WRs in this game, I can't believe that Jarett Dillard wasn't selected to participate.

Good stuff. I'm a little surprised to hear good things about Patrick Turner. Watching him throughout his career at USC, I couldn't help but feel that he was a poor man's Dwayne Jarrett/Mike Williams. He had all of the size with none of the playmaking skills. He gradually developed into a reliable possession WR and he occasionally broke loose for a deep ball, but I can't say I ever thought he'd amount to much in the NFL. He looked closer to Hank Baskett than Vincent Jackson.

So what's the thought on Derrick Williams? Too much of a project to become a star pass receiver? Or do you think that teams think that can teach him to catch better?

I heard the NFL Network claimed that JPW would be a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Seriously...what are they smoking!!

I don't think he'll ever be a star WR, I also don't think his hands are an issue. I think a good player to compare him to would be Josh Cribbs, and that's probably why I am as enthralled with Williams as I am. Properly utilized, he should have a long and successful career at the next level, but he'll probably be a better real player than fantasy player.

Thanks!

Any thoughts on Brian Robiske? The kid looks amazing at the Day 3 practice. Brandon Gibson, Derrick Williams & Juaguin Iglesias also look impressive. Ramses Barden looks bad to put it nicely.

Robiske- he seems so physically and technically developed that I am not convinced that you will ever get more than you see now. Just comes off as the type who can step and get 50 catches as rookie, but never do any more than that.

Robiskie reminds me a lot of a former buckeye, Michael Jenkins. Low ceiling, high floor sort of #2 at the next level.

Nothing wrong with that, kid will make a living playing pro football.......Might become a vital piece on a championship caliber team....I'd be happy with an Amani Toomer type of career which I think is realistic for him.

McShay was on Moving The Chains on Sirius yesterday. They were also talking up Raji and Larry English, but McShay said he felt that Pettigrew had established himself as the best TE, which differs from your notes. Can you talk about that some more?

Sig: You mentioned Tyrone McKenzie (USF) in your Day 2 writeup. Some have mentioned SLB as a possibility because of his ability to cover. He's got a real nasty streak. What are your thoughts on his prospects?

Pettigrew is a classic block catch/combo TE. It does not look like he is going to be a guy who gets deep regularly as a pass catching threat, but can sit down in zones and be a goalline threat. Probably a better NFL guy than fantasy.

:tinfoilhat: Here's what I wrote:
Brandon Pettigrew(Oklahoma State) impressed us as a blocker, but he just hasn’t popped as a playmaking receiver from the TE position. Teams looking for offense from the tight end would be better off taking Chase Coffman or James Casey.

I've only seen Monday and Tuesday's practices on NFLN, still have Wednesday and Thursday to watch, haven't read Wed/Thur updates yet either, like to watch the practices first. So you may have already touched on this. As far as TEs, I thought the kid from So Miss has looked pretty good so far.

William Moore looks like a LB at the safety position...he flat out sucks out there.
I don't like Nic Harris at all at S. Explosive hitter but very vulnerable in coverage.Oklahoma even experimented with him at MLB.
Harris has been at LB at all 3 practices we attended, I think his career as a safety is over. As far as his performance, he obviously needs to play lower and stouter at the point of attack, but otherwise he looked the part physically and played very aggressively.

Found this interesting...

Senior Bowl Prospect Comparison

Wes Bunting

National Football Post

January 22, 2009

One of the toughest jobs an NFL scout has is deciphering the kind of player a college prospect will become at the next level and what current NFL player his skill set resembles. Since the Senior Bowl has a bit of a lull the next two days, I decided to put a list together comparing the skill sets of some of the top prospects with current and past NFL players.

Note: Prospects are listed in alphabetical order, not by ranking.
