The Ultimate IDP Survivor Contest

Want to prove your IDP chops? Want to see how you stack up against your FBG IDP Forum colleagues, the most informed and active community in the industry? Want a chance to kick a little FBG IDP staff tail? Just in it for the glory and prizes?

Here’s your chance.

David Dodds included a couple of IDP leagues in the first leg of the “other” Survivor contest, but we’ve convinced him that IDP leagues are not just another niche in the market. We are the real diehards of fake football. So we’ve got our own contest, our own prizes, and, we believe, the real bragging rights as the Ultimate Survivor.

I’ll post the full rule set, scoring systems, prize information, etc in the post to follow, but here are the highlights:

Many of our brightest message board posters will be invited to face-off against our primary FBG IDP staff contributors. Depending on interest, we may have 3-5 12 team leagues. Over the first eight weeks of the NFL season, each league will compete in all-play format, with the cream of the crop (numbers TBD) advancing to the final leg. The surviving teams (number TBD) from each of those leagues will redraft an expanded IDP only roster and compete over the next eight weeks of the NFL season. Only one will survive to be crowned the Ultimate IDP Survivor.

In addition to the bragging rights of making it to the final league, David will be graciously offering prizes (also TBD):

If you’re interested, here’s what we need:

**A post in this thread self-nominating yourself.

**A commitment that you’ll make a dedicated effort to draft promptly should you be selected for one of the Leg 1 leagues and be reasonably certain that you’ll be available for the Leg 2 draft between Weeks 8 and 9 of the NFL season.

**A ranking of preferences for your Leg 1 scoring system (tackle heavy, balanced, big play heavy)

That’s it.

We'll do random draws if we have a surplus of interest message boarders as we did last season and slot folks into leagues sometime next week.

Who’s interested?

(Please note: This post may be a work in progress. Depending on the level of interest, the number of message board teams may change, which will alter the mechanics of the league(s). See the end of this post for all clarifications.)

XX contestants (8-10 staff IDP contributors//XX message boarders) -- We'll fill as many leagues as we can and have a reasonable final leg, with alternates posted if necessary.

Leg 1

XX 12 team leagues drafting individual offensive and defensive players

Each league will have 2-3 staff members. There will be at least one league with tackle heavy, big play heavy and balanced scoring systems. Depending on interest, there may be more than one league of the IDP scoring systems above.

**Offensive scoring will include PPR. Defensive scoring will be league dependent as above. Scoring systems are listed below. All offensive lineups will be QB/2RB/3WR/TE/PK with a single RB/WR/TE flex to total nine offensive starters. All defensive lineups will be 2DE/DT/3LB/2CB/2S with a single DE/LB/DB flex to total 11 defensive starters. All owners will draft 38 players during a slow MFL draft to begin TBD. Initial draft order will be generated randomly. There will be no positional restrictions during the draft.

**Owners will not submit lineups. The best available lineup will be scored from your entire roster of players.

**This season's contest will be an all-play contest. Each team will play every other team each week. Total wins and losses will be added up over the eight week "season". The number of advancing teams from each league will be determined after the number of leagues has been determined. (The three teams with the best all-play records from each league will advance to the final leg. Tiebreaker will be total points scored if necessary.)

Leg 2

**A single XX team league drafting individual defensive players only consisting of the surviving teams from each of the original Leg 1 leagues. Draft slots will be awarded according to performance in the Leg 1 leagues. The top scoring team in each Leg 1 league will draft in the top draft slots, with the exact order to be determined randomly. Random draws will take place for each "bucket" of the next highest scoring team from each league.

**Defensive scoring will be balanced IDP scoring. Scoring system will be sent to all potential league participants well in advance. All defensive lineups will be 2DE/DT/3LB/2CB/2S with a single DE/LB/DB flex to total 11 defensive starters. All owners will draft 24 players (no positional restrictions) by slow MFL draft to begin on Tuesday morning following Week 8 of the NFL season. Should the draft not be complete by Saturday noon ET of that week, all owners will be expected to be available to finish the draft in a live draft room (TBD) at noon ET Saturday.

**Should a Leg 2 owner be unable to draft and need to be replaced, a random dice roll among the highest remaining scorer in each of the three Leg 1 leagues will determine the first replacement owner. Potential replacement owners will be notified in advance.

Message board contestants will be eligible for the contest after self-nominating themselves in a thread in the IDP Forum and will be chosen for inclusion by the IDP staff.

Scoring systems:

Defense: Leg 1 (Tackle heavy) Leg 2 (Big play heavy) Leg 3 (Balanced) Solo 2 1.5 1.5 Assist 1 0.75 0.75 Sack 4 8 5 PD 1 1.5 1.5 INT 4 8 5 FF 2 5 4 FR 2 5 4 TD 6 10 6Offense:TD 6 (all pass, rush, receiving, return)

Rush/Rec Yd 0.1 per yard

Pass Yd 0.05 per yard

Reception 1 (RB/WR/TE)

INT -1

XP 1

FG 3

Message boarders may enter BOTH this and the offense/Team D contests. Should there be more than 28 message board self-nominations, the contest may be expanded to four Leg 1 leagues and 40 message board teams. Should there be more than 40 self-nominations, the FBG IDP staff will fill out the leagues with a slight preference for our more active and dedicated posters over the past couple of seasons.

Would the first batch of drafts be slow draft?

I am definitely interested in doing this.

Would prefer tackle heavy, then balanced, then big play

I am definitely interested.

My preference for scoring from favourite to least favourite: Tackle heavy, balanced, big play heavy.

Played both the IDP and Regular FGB sponsored Survivor Leagues last year.....finished 2nd overall in the Regular.

That being said, I would love to participate again this year. My preferences.... Tackle Heavy, Balanced, Big Play.

Thanks for another great contest!!!

definitely interested! Slow draft is preferred though. I'll be available from start to finish

league format preference: balanced, tackle heavy, big play (in order from fave to least preferred)

Count me in.

Also participated last year. Very enjoyable. Had the highest point total in my bracket but was eliminated the next to last round. Needless to say, I haven't forgotten. :boxing:

Format preference:

1. Balanced

2. Tackle heavy

3. Big play

I played last year (Benny Beaver) and made it to the 2nd leg before totally collapsing. It was really fun and challenging.

My preference: Anything.

I played last year, would love to play again....will definitely be committed.

First preference: balanced

Second preference: tackle-heavy

As the reigning peoples champ(4th overall behind 3 staff members :) ), I am most interested in trying to not falter in the last week(The collapse of all collapses) and exceeding my expectations.

Any format will do as will any time

tackle heavy, balanced, big play heavy in that order. you can throw me in any league really though

If you need another manager count on me. I don't post a lot because I can't type for squat, but I've been coming here for years, much longer than my sign on date and would love to find out if I've learned anything. I do have a rather formidable record amongst mere mortals...time to find out what the Gods got.

I love all formats but prefer balanced or tackle-heavy formats, there's an awful lot of random chance in big play unless there's some semblance of balance.

John

I was in tackle-heavy last season and would like to return in 2009. My only preference is tackle-heavy again.

Thanks.

I am interested this year. I made it through the draft during Boy Scout camp last year, even after my crack-berry got fried in a nasty T-Storm.

Now that I know the IDP system, I'm ready to improve on last year's performance.

I would prefer big play heavy, balanced and tackle heavy in that order. I'm leaving for a conference in Seattle on August 8. Hopefully we can be done!

I'd love a shot at this and I'm 100% committed to both the leg 1 & leg 2 drafts.

I'd be happy to play in any of the leagues. I see most are shooting for tackle heavy so I'll change it up a little to even things out...

1) Balanced

2) Big Play heavy

3) Tackle heavy

I was in this last year and would love to compete again. I meet all the criteria and really have no preference.

I'm in again. Can meet all of the criteria.

1) Big Play

2) Balanced

3) Tackle Heavy

Though after getting a total of 2.25 pts in BP last year from the Merriman/Umeniyora combo, maybe I should try a different format.

:goodposting: I'm game..

Most interested in tackle heavy or big play but would take a balanced if that's all that is left.

absolutely count me in this year

tackle heavy

balanced

big play

could have sworn I posted this 2 days ago. ????????

We'll be closing self-nominations sometime in the next 24-48 hours. After we fill the leagues, alternates (if any) will be announced and continue to be accepted should we lose a drafter before a draft is complete.

Keep posting if you're interested.

I'm up for a learning experience!

tackle heavy

balanced

big play heavy

Thanks to everyone that expressed interest.

Aside from Crippler, who gets an automatic invite based on his top message board finish last season, I'll randomly assign teams to leagues (honoring preferences where possible) sometime today. There will be ten staffers competing this season and 38 message boarders. Four message boarders will be marked as alternates, with any additional nominations added to the alternate list if needed. Last season, we used a number of alternates, and those boarders should be at the ready next week if still interested.

Expect the drafts to begin Monday.

Separate league threads will be started shortly. If you've been selected, I'll need your email address PMed to me or emailed to bramel at footballguys dot com ASAP to get the invite sent to you to setup your team.

Good luck everybody.

League threads have been posted. Alternate list will be kept in the initial post.

Draft starts Monday. Draft sites will be generated today, with draft order posted shortly afterwards. Invites to be sent out as I receive email addresses from those in the leagues. Alternates should also feel free to send me an email contact should an invite open up.
