2010 NFL Draft Team Needs - Miami Dolphins (1 Viewer)

NFL.com Miami Dolphins positions of need:

WR, DL, LB, S

Needs Analysis: The Dolphins spent big money to get LB Karlos Dansby and now they can turn their attention to other defensive needs. NT Jason Ferguson, 35, is coming off a season-ending quadriceps injury and will miss the first eight games of the season due to a league-imposed suspension. Paul Soliai is not the answer as a starting nose tackle. Bill Parcells has a long history with pass rushing outside linebackers (Lawrence Taylor, Carl Banks, DeMarcus Ware) and I would not be surprised if that's the first issue Miami addressed. Somewhere in the draft a wide receiver will get consideration, but not necessarily in the first or second round. The signing of Richie Incognito probably takes Miami out of the offensive line business. The Dolphins could also use a safety with the coverage skills to play the deep middle.

The Dolphins have definite needs on defense at LB, DL, and safety. However the defense is solid as a whole, and the lack of a true #1 WR directly cost them at least three games last year.

Three times last year the Dolphins had the ball, down by one score or less, with around two minutes left. In each of those three scenarios their drives were killed by repeated dropped passes at key moments.

This team has absolutely zero chance of competing with their current receiving corps.

Oh the places they can go...

Dansby certainly helps the LB corp but it goes without saying that we need more help there.

The NT position concerns me but I can see Parcells going that route with our Round 2 pick (possibly trading up a bit if a certain player falls).

At WR I see a very similar approach to last year spending a 3rd/4th or 4th/5th and hope one of them pans out? The thing right now is that we have a bunch of possession receivers who would be decent WR2s and great WR3s. Not one of these guys is WR1 but I don't see Dez Bryant jiving with Parcells.

At safety we have a glaring hole since cutting Gibril Wilson, but that hole is moreso the absence of a body because Wilson was absolutely putrid last season. Anyone we get in there will be at minimum a lateral move.

My hope is that they address the defensive front 7 with the 1st round selection. I really like Smith/Davis at CB and think they will look very very good if we can get some pressure on the opponent's QB this year.

The sexy pick is clearly Dez, who very well may be there at 12. Realistically, it is far more likely that we draft one of the 2 big safetys, or an outside pass rusher. I dont think there is a NT worthy of that pick, and from what I understand the draft is deep with NT, so that could be addressed later possibly.

Personally, I would like to see them give Chad Henne a true #1. I think we wiffed badly on Boldin, and I had hoped we would have at least spoken with Antonio Bryant. It if is my decision on draft day, and Dez is there at 12, thats the pick.

For the coin that Bryant got I would not want him. The Dolphins have a bunch of possession receivers so speed is paramount. I know I am in the minority, but I think Ginn adds value to spread a defense out. I know he was not worth a #1, but if he were a 4th round pick, I think people would say he has some value. He used to not have issues with catching the ball and I think his hands will decent enough to be a devery henderson type.

I agree that NT is so deep in this draft that Miami probably won't grab one at #12. Dan Williams would get a look if he was available but I'm guessing they will pass. They could easily get one in the 2nd or even the 3rd. That leaves OLB, S, or WR. The draft is also quite deep with good safety prospects, so unless Eric Berry someone slipped to #12 I can't see Miami using a 1st on one. It's either going to be Bryant or a pass-rusher. I think it comes down to how high Miami evaluates Bryant, and whether they think he is that much better than anyone else. If they really like his talent I could definitely see them taking Bryant with this pick. Otherwise it'll be someone like Kindle, who has the experience, skills and body type that Sparano and Ireland like at OLB. If I had to bet on one player, it would be Kindle.

My true feeling here is Miami will trade down. White, Spiller, Williams, and maybe a QB will be there and Miami could use another pick or two in the top half of the draft. My Gut tells me they want an "LT Type" LB for their 3-4, but there is a good NT as well as a safety out there, so we'll see. The Guard Igutapi (sp) is on their radar as well, so I can see them trading down and solidifying their O line.

Miami's WR need is glaring, but I see a guy like parcells not going with the hype there and maybe even signing TO for a year if his draft doesn't fall the way he wants (or giving Denver a pick AFTER the draft for Marshall). Otherwise it will eb a speed guy from a small school.

I see all those late round picks being WR/LB/Safety type players that can play ST and be developed. I think their work at the senior bowl will come in handy for that spot. I also see them Trading a QB before the draft.

The most glaring need on this team is still at safety. Both Indy and New Orleans lose to Miami if we had a safety back there and not a statue named Gibril Wilson.

Dez to Miami makes a lot of sense. Ginn is never going to be a WR1 and they need something more than Bess. I think they can get by with Brown and Ricky at RB and maybe pick up another RB in the third or fourth. Go defense in the second.

Parcells will not take a WR in the first. Earl Thomas sadly goes here (He is who I want Dallas to get).
I agree with this, and would not be unhappy at all to get Thomas back there at FS. Thomas/Bell/Smith/Davis in the secondary is deadly, and young.

I think the market just heated up on Thomas after the McNabb trade. The Eagles could use some of their picks to move up as could a couple of other teams including Dallas.

Miami could easily be the team they trade up with. We are more than a FS away from being a real threat in the AFC in 2010. A few extra picks in the 2nd or 3rd rounds would be huge for us, and maybe then we get Dez later in the 1st anyway. A trade down is ideal IMO.

If he's there at 12....I truly believe Big Bill will have the phone lines burning in the war room.
