2010 NFL Mock Draft (1 Viewer)

1. Saint Louis-QB Jimmy Clausen-Notre Dame-Many scouts have compared Clausen to Aaron Rodgers and the Rams desperately need a face for the team(besides Jackson) they've been putting off drafting a QB for too long and as a result missed out on Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez. I considered Suh, but they have a pretty decent D-Line at the moment, and I just think they need to make a big splash and a QB at #1 does that.

2. Detroit-DT Ndamukong Suh-Nebraska-Suh strikes me as some weird cross between Warren Sapp and John Randle. The Lions defense could take an immediate step to legitimate if Suh is all he's hyped up to be. If he falls past the Rams, there is a 0% chance he'll fall past the Lions.

3. Tampa Bay-OT Russell Okung-Oklahoma St-He's not in the class of guys like Ogden and Pace when they came out, but I think he's in the Chris Samuels, D'Brickashaw Ferguson category. Donald Penn regressed this year, and Tampa's main goal is to develop Josh Freeman. Okung would be a sizable upgrade on the O-line, and allow Freeman more time to find Winslow and co. I considered Gerald McCoy here, but I think the need for OT is equal to DT and OT's are tougher to find.

4. Washington-DT Gerald McCoy-Oklahoma-Someone on ESPN(McShay?) compared McCoy to Albert Haynesworth, wouldn't it be scary if they were on the same line? Between him, Haynesworth, Orakpo and Fletcher etc. the Redskins front seven would be as good as any in the NFL. I considered Bradford, but I think Campbell played well enough and think the problem was more play calling than anything else. I think Shanny can easily salvage him.

5. Kansas City-QB Sam Bradford-Oklahoma-The Big-12 represent. I know this is a bit out there since they just gave up a 2nd rounder and a huge contract to Cassel, but the sooner KC realizes he's not the answer the better off they'll be. Bradford would likely sit for a year behind Cassel before taking over in 2011. I considered Eric Berry, but its tough to pass on a franchise QB, especially when you don't have one.

6. Seattle-S Eric Berry-Tennessee-Many people are likening him to Ed Reed. Seattle has a ton of needs but the two bigest are at O-line and in the defensive backfield. Considering they play in a division with Fitz, Boldin, Crabtree and Vernon Davis, I think secondary help is the way to go.

7. Cleveland-DE Derrick Morgan-Georgia Tech-Whether Cleveland stays in the 3-4 or not, they need help on the front seven. I think Morgan could play OLB if need be in a 3-4. I think Holmgren will give Brady Quinn one year to impress him. If Bradford were to fall here though...

8. Oakland-OT Bruce Campbell-Maryland-I think he's a very underrated prospect. I think this is the year Al Davis decides to not go skill position guys(especially since he hasn't gotten one that's helped for a while) in round 1. I'm not sure who the coach or QB will be, for now I'll assume Cable/Gradkowski. But no matter who they are, I think a top notch OT prospect would be a big help to the Raiders offense.

9. Buffalo-DE Everson Griffen-USC-Another guy I expect to fly up draft boards. With Schobel contemplating retirement and Maybin showing nothing in year 1, I think the Bills will go to the well yet again at DE. I expect them to address QB with a veteran addition(Pennington? Vick?) or a 2nd round pick(McCoy? Tebow?)

10. Jacksonville-LB Rolando McClain-Alabama-I know people are kind of down the Jags offense, but the team's real problem is the defense. McClain seems like an excellent prospect(not Willis good, but maybe Mayo good) and the Jags need help all over on that side of the ball. I think Garrard will get another year as a starter with little competition. I considered Dez Bryant here, but between Mike Thomas and Zach Miller I think someone will step up to give them another offensive weapon besides MJD and MSW.

11. Denver-CB Joe Haden-Florida-Alphonso Smith hasn't looked like he was worth a 1st rounder and even if he does pan out, they still need to get younger in the secondary. Haden kind of has a Leon Hall look to him to me. I think with Bailey's help, he could become a premier CB in the NFL. The Broncos will need a quality pass defense if they hope to pass the Chargers anytime soon.

12. Miami-WR Dez Bryant-Oklahoma State-I know, Parcells doesn't like 1st round WR's, but this is BY FAR Miami's biggest need. Maybe Devonne Bess can be a #2, but everyone else they have look like sub package Wr's to me. Bryant strikes me as a similar prospect to Dwayne Bowe, who Miami took Ginn over 3 years ago. Now's the chance to help fix that mistake.

13. San Francisco-DT Dan Williams-Tennessee-Another guy I think is highly undervalued at the moment. I think the 49ers have decided that Alex Smith is their guy(at least for 2010) and they will continue to build the defense the Samurai Mike craves.

14. Seattle-OT Trent Williams-Oklahoma-Seattle fills their other most glaring need with Williams. He's not a top of the line OT, but he looks like a guy who will have a long and solid career maybe like a guy like Jon Jansen. Well there are rumors that Matty H may be on the outs, I think Hasselbeck will get another shot in 2010. Spiller was considered, but I think there will be more quality at RB in round 2 then at OT.

15. New York Giants-DE/LB Sergio Kindle-Texas-Wouldn't have guessed before the season, but the Giants need defensive help pretty badly. I think the front seven may need it more than the secondary, and Kindle seems like a Giants type prospect. I considered Taylor Mays, but I think the G-Men just care more about their front seven the the secondary.

16. Tennessee-S Taylor Mays-USC-The Titans have drafted athletic freaks the past few years, and I expect the same this year. I'm not entirely sure Mays is a safety and not a linebacker, but that's for Jeff Fisher to determine. I think he's got some similarities to Thomas Davis and some to Adrian Wilson, so its anyone's guess. Still, he's too talented to fall further.

17. San Francisco-DE Carlos Dunlap-Florida-Samurai Mike keeps building that defensive front. If things break right, the 49ers will have one of the most feared defense in the NFL. I gave a brief thought to Golden Tate here, but I think the 49ers are happy with Morgan as their #2 and I expect Brandon Jones to have a bigger role next season.

18. Pittsburgh-RB C.J. Spiller-Clemson-Curveball pick, the Steelers do more than anyone. I think Spiller will be a Felix Jones type player for them. Which could prove invaluable since they seem to be moving to a more uptempo offense. The Steelers really don't have many holes and can afford a bit of a luxury pick here(seems weird to say about a team who missed the playoffs) this pick would throw a huge monkey wrench into rookie drafts.

19. Atlanta-WR Golden Tate-Notre Dame-Yeah, the defense needs help almost everywhere, but the offense is probably only one player away. I think this is that player. An explosive weapon who will also open up more field for Gonzalez and the running game. I know they have Harry Douglas, but I don't think he's anywhere near the talent Tate is, and while I think the Harvin comparisons are silly, Tate is a very talented player.

20. Houston-WR Arrelious Benn-llinois-I was impressed by Foster late in the year, and Slaton will still have a pretty big role, so I don't see RB as a 1st round need. Really WR isn't either, but I think with some uncertainty about Daniels, Walter seemingly regressing and Jacoby Jones still being an enigma, I think Benn is a quality pick.

21. New York Jets-OT Charles Brown-USC-A team built on its running game is often only as good as its blockers. Damien Woody is right up against that point where he's still serviceable, but would be better suited as a utility backup. I think Brown could make an elite o-line even better, possibly the best in the NFL.

22. Baltimore-CB Ras-I Dowling-Virginia-Ravens would have loved if Tate or Ben had fallen here, but instead of a WR, they will fill their other glaring need at CB. Some question whether Dowling is a corner or a safety, but I feel he's a corner. He's actually a kinda similar prospect to Malcolm Jenkins last year. Look for Baltimore to try an acquire a WR through trade or FA.

23. Arizona-OT Bryan Bulaga- Iowa-You know your O-line is a weakness when Mike Gandy is considered a big loss. The Cards will look to continue their slow evolution to a running(or at least balanced) football team and Beanie looks like a good pick from last year, adding someone to block for him is the next logical step.

24. Cincinnati-OT Anthony Davis-Rutgers-While the Bengals have done a good job opening holes for Cedric Benson, they haven't done the best job protecting Carson Palmer. He seems rushed constantly and that is at least part of the reason why the Bengals haven't had much of a deep passing game.

25. New England-WR Damian Williams-USC-The Patriots are like the Steelers in that they have enough talent to make a bit of a luxury pick here. I think Welker getting hurt may make this pick even clearer, but I was thinking WR even when he was healthy. The Pats can't count on Edelman and Aiken, and who knows with Brandon Tate's knees. Williams I think could provide the Donte' Stallworth role that the pats had on their record setting season.

26. Green Bay- DT Terrence Cody-Alabama-The Packers seem to like Raji at DE, so DT is still a bit of a need. Cody will fill that need and then some. Between him, Raji, Jenkins, Matthews etc. the Packers could have one of the better young defensive fronts in the league. Not bad considering they completely switched defensive schemes around this time a year ago. OT is a need, but I don't see anyone worth a 1st rounder after Davis and anyway, the Packers O-line has played much better in the second half of the season than the first.

27. Philadelphia-DE Jason Pierre-Paul-USF-I think another pass rusher opposite Trent Cole is a pretty big need here. Some would say LB, but I think they'll be in pretty good shape once Stewart Bradley comes back. OL was also considered, but again, I think when they are healthy, they are in good enough shape there, besides like I said with the Packers, after Davis the OT class drops off a bit.

28. Dallas-DT Marvin Austin-UNC-He just seems like a great fit for the Cowboys. The key to their second half surge hasn't been so much Tony Romo, like many seem to think, but its been their defense. Austin would only make it better. I do wonder if Dallas may be in the hunt for a WR and possibly dump Roy, but that seems unlikely, but who knows with JJ.

29. Minnesota-LB Travis Lewis-Oklahoma-They could probably use a young QB to develop behind Favre, but I don't see McCoy or Tebow as 1st rounders, though reuniting Tebow and Harvin could be interesting. Dt is probably a need, but I think they can squeeze one more year out of Pat Williams. LB is a need right now though. E.J. Henderson has suffered major injuries 2 years in a row, and Ben Leber is a mediocre starter on a sometimes dominant defense. If Henderson can get healthy I think Lewis will make a find starter over Leber. if he can't, I think Greenway could move to the middle and Lewis could play that side.

30. San Diego-DL Corey Wootton-Northwestern-One of the more overrated players in my opinion. I've seen him in a few top-10's. I just don't see it. I think he'll be a good player, but more of a solid starter than an impact player. I considered a RB here, but I really don't like Best or Dwyer enough to go here, and I think Matthews and Gerhart are behind both of them.

31. New Orleans-LB Sean Weatherspoon-Missouri-Help for the run defense which is the Saints biggest weakness. I imagine Payton would be tempted by all these RB's falling, but I think the Saints are more than fine there, plus they have a knack for finding gems late.

32. Indianapolis-DE Jerry Hughes-TCU-Kind of a luxury pick here, I think they need another solid rusher behind Freeney and Mathis and maybe even a rotational guy. Other considerations were safety and offensive line, but I think its a little soon for Earl Thomas, and Indy has a knack for finding solid o-lineman late.

So that's my mock as of 1-6-10.

Haden would be a decent pick for Denver there. It would be pretty disappointing for McClain to go 1 pick before him.

What's the verdict on Dez Bryant? I know about the off field "issue" but never really got a chance to watch him play. If you had to compare him to a current NFL WR, who would he most closely resemble?

I'll just comment on the Eagles.

OT will not be taken in the first round. They just extended both Jason Peters and Winston Justice. I see the Eagles team needs right now as:

SS, LB, DE, CB

in that order.

Golden Tate...explosive? I don't know about that. He looks like the second coming of Josh Reed to me. I think he really needs to run a fast 40 time in order to justify such a lofty selection.

Beast. He's the best skill player in the draft. Like a better Dwayne Bowe.

I saw a comparison to Calvin Johnson on another site. ;) If he's as good as advertised, I could see Denver making a run at him at 10 or 11 assuming Marshall is gone.

I don't think Bryant has off the field issues. Just because the NCAA is a POS doesn't mean Bryant is. Lying about hanging out with Deion Sanders doesn't mean you have off the field "issues."Maybe I've forgotten, but has Bryant ever gotten into any other trouble?

That's why put "Issue" in quotation marks. I don't think he did anything worthy of suspension either.

Calvin is a terrible comparison. They have a different playing style.Marshall is actually a decent parallel. Dez would be a good replacement.

I think he's worth a top 10 pick. Whether or not he goes that high is another question entirely.

If the Redskins take a DT not named Suh at #4, I'll jump off a bridge. I'd even -consider- it if they did take Suh...

Holy crap........you got the OT's flying off the board in this mock. Sucks for Green Bay since it's a massive need but grabbing Fat Cody would make me smile since he's the freakiest guy left on the board at that point imo. GB's DL would be nice.

By the by, Mc Gay bugs the crap out of me on ESPN. Arrogant little punk. I'd like to punch him. <End rant>

ETA........nice job on the mock.

That's embarrassing. I'm not surprised I missed someone somewhere.

I don't think he's an off-the-field-issues risk, but as of his last appearance on an actual football field, he has some apparent immaturity issues that impact his on-field performance. It's easy to get into his head by being physical with him. He seems easily frustrated when things aren't going his way. He takes awful gambles with handling punts that he shouldn't. That sort of thing. In other words, he acts like most great wide receivers act. Which is tolerable if he actually turns out to be a great wide receiver, as he certainly has the potential to do. But if he's only a good wide receiver, you won't want him on your team.

I'll eat my hand if Berry drops to 6.
Will you post a link to the stump when the time comes?Off the top of my head the only safety to go in the top-5 in recent memory was Sean Taylor. I just don't see the teams in the top-5 having both a DB need and the ability to pass on the players I have them taking for Berry to go top-5. The only way I see Berry going top-5 is if someone trades up ahead of Seattle and thinks Berry can be a CB.Who would he go ahead of?

I agree that Bryant shares many of the same skills as Dwayne Bowe. He's probably got better hands than Bowe as well, though I'm not sure he's quite the beast after the catch, which prevents me from really seeing any comparison to Marshall. I think Bryant also has the abilty to be a good blocker and that could also endear him to a guy like Parcells.Explosive may not have been the right word in regards to Tate. Depends on how explosive is defined. I'm certainly not saying he's DeSean Jackson or Steve Smith or anything like that, but I do think Tate is a play maker. He's certainly more talented than Reed, who IIRC, ran a 4.65 at the combine and fell to round 2, when before the combine he was considered a top-15 pick. I see Tate as about a 4.45 guy. If I had to use a comparison for Tate, I'd say Derrick Mason.

There is zero chance of this. The Steelers have a ton of holes on D: CB, S, ILB, DE, NT

We'll see about Tate. People compare him to Boldin and Ward, but he's a short little guy. He needs to run fast. Otherwise he's Peter Warrick and Josh Reed. Those guys were college superstars with great YAC skills, but they didn't become stars in the NFL because they didn't have the speed to get open and get YAC at the pro level. That would be my main concern with Tate. Anything higher than 4.4 in the 40 will be troublesome.

I see Bradford dropping like a rock on draft day vs. where I'm seeing him go in everyone's mock draft. That injury bug is tough to overcome.

Clausen at #1? Eh, possible. As a Lions fan, I would LOVE for the Rams to, so we could snag Suh and not McCoy.

Not sure TB would pass on Berry. There was a lot of love for Lynch there, and Berry is just as explosive, if not MORE explosive when Lynch was in his prime.

McCoy to Washington makes no sense to me with Haynesworth there...

Bradford to KC makes no sense to me with them trading for and then signing Cassell to a monster deal...

Really don't see Berry dropping all the way to #6. He's a top 3-4 pick. I could even see teams trading up for him.

I can see Atlanta taking another shot at a WR. Michael Jenkins has been a major disappointment, and Finneran can't stay healthy.

i thought SF had Seattle's 1st rounder. In any case, I see SF going after a OT. Williams from OK actually sounds right on. It's probably their biggest weakness and he would fit in great next to staley. the defense surged the last 8 games and i think they are all set. any other dlinemen or oline guys can prob be picked off in FA.

And if they do indeed have SEA's pick then i'm calling for a CB, maybe Haden from fla.

San Fran has Carolina's 1st rounder. They got it in exchange for a 2nd rounder last year that Carolina used on DE Everette Brown.ETA: The 49ers could use another O-lineman, I just don't think that highly of Williams. I'd have had him lower, but I think Seattle would reach for him because they can't afford not to get an O-lineman.If Campbell were to fall to SF's pick, I think they'd take him in a heartbeat.

...this is too soon....

We still have the national title (which will affect McCoys draft status)

we still have the Senior Bowl

we still have the combine

we still have quite a few teams making changes

a few notes:

Bradford has to prove his shoulder is good.

If McCoy owns the Crimson Tide, he will move up.

I see a lot of trades going down. The Rams could easily turn the first pick into the Suh Sweepstakes and get a QB later in the draft. Considering his upside and rarity a lot of teams would have an interest.

The Jags do have needs all over their defense, but none is bigger than pass rush. They had 14 sacks this year. They will grab someone to help with that even if they have to reach or trade up.

Umm...huh?First off...they love Raji at NT.DE they are set with Jenkins and Jolly. If they wanted to move Raji to DE...they would resign Pickett. This is the #1 rush D with the guys they have...I see absolutely no way they draft a DT in the first round.Though...this pick would be great...if we could go back in time and take Oher over Raji last year.

There are three ol prospects that go inthis mock immediately after pittsburgh's pick and I'd be happy with any of the three

I'm not so sure of this, PDP. Even with all the holes in the roster last year, the Gene took Britton in round two. He's shown that he'll stick to his board. I don't think he'll reach here. But I do agree that the pass rush needs a major overhaul.

31. New Orleans-LB Sean Weatherspoon-Missouri-Help for the run defense which is the Saints biggest weakness. I imagine Payton would be tempted by all these RB's falling, but I think the Saints are more than fine there, plus they have a knack for finding gems late.
this would make pretty much every saints fan happy. they need a playmaker at LB. vilma is steady, smart, and rock solid but he's limited in his skillset. an OLB that can make a tackle behind the line of scrimmage? one capable of the occasional sack? high motor? good, reliable tackler? that's the wishlist. with that said, i wouldn't be surprised to see them sign an O-line player. OT, most likely.

I was just reading in Sporting News that Weatherspoon has dropped to a second round grade because he's running with heavy legs and couldn't get off blocks this year.I haven't seen him, so I can't verify that, but it bears mentioning.

Would be nice to see Oakland address the O-line for the first time since Gallery at 1.02. Aside of two 3rd rd picks (Henderson, McQuistan) and some no name FA's they've done next to nothing to solidify what should be an area with one of the highest priorities with so much money invested at skill positions (Rus, DMac, DHB) that depend on a at least a solid O-line.

Can't see this happening. There are a fair amount of WR's available as free agents, plus we don't feel this is a position of need. Schaub led the league with what we've got. Daniels and Walter are free agents, but Jacoby is progressing nicely and Anderson is a decent slot guy. As for TE, Dreesen is ok plus we are very high on our rookie Casey and we also drafted a guy in the 4th (Anthony Hill) not that a TE deficiency would result in us drafting another WR. Plus, we're playing Andre Davis pretty good money. We need a FS (and a CB if we let Dunta Robinson walk). We are currently starting Shaun Cody at DT who was once an early second round pick, but was cut by the Lions. Okoye has not been lighting the world on fire, either. So we have potentially three defensive needs that are greater than our WR need. I'll be very surprised if we draft any position other than FS, DT, or CB. If there was a big back who fit the one cut system then I'd say there would be an outside chance of that happening, but there isn't. We were looking for mid to late round talent at RB last year and didn't find anything. As far as I know, that is the plan once again. Speaking of which, don't expect Foster to be our starting back next year.
What's it sound like the Texans will do with Walter? I'm under the impression that he regressed and that they are about 50-50 on bringing him back. Is that the sense you get? Jacoby Jones showed some signs, but he still looked like a major work in progress, and not someone I'd want to be relying on as a starter. I imagine Daniels will be back, he lost all his leverage when he tore his ACL for the 3rd time. Isn't he restricted anyway because of the CBA? Casey didn't show much(and I liked him coming out) and Dreesen is well cast as the TE2.

I'd be shocked if Robinson left, I'd think re-upping him would be priority #1 this offseason. I agree free safety is a need, but 20 is too soon for Earl Thomas in my opinion and unless Mays falls(and he's more of a SS prospect anyway) I don't see any safety worth the 20th pick.

I was impressed by Cody when I saw a few Texans games this year, he looked almost nothing like the player he was on the Lions. I suppose Detroit has that effect on a lot of guys.

Foster/Slaton/2nd day pick is what I'm assuming the plan is at RB, what do you see?

...this is too soon....

Agreed. I'll probably have a completely different opinion on what teams will do in 2 months. But it never hurts to throw something out there and get some draft talk started, especially when your team isn't in the playoffs.

I'd like and expect to see Tampa Bay move up for Suh if the opportunity presents itself. The Rams could then take their franchise qb and maybe get something else aswell.

They've drafted a fair number of DT's lately.

The 4 tackles they have are fine. They are all young and it's the deepest position on the Oline. They don't have a deep passing game because a. They don't have the WRs b. Carson's thumb is screwing up the play action.Needs - WR, TE, DB I'd pick Damian Williams here.

That's ok. Davis won't get past Pittsburgh.

At the moment this pick wouldn't bother me. I don't know enough about Cody from a measurement or character perspective. I do think the Packers need to focus on defense and the o-line. I think they will take at least 1-2 d lineman, depending on the future of Harrell, as Jolly probably won't be back. They need to re-stock the secondary and could use at least one more rush OLB. The o-line is in need of 1-2 actual tackle prospects and I wouldn't mind it if they drafted a running back with some wiggle. Grant has been productive but I would like to see a back with a little Felix Jones or Darren Sproles in him that is a little more explosive.

I disagree. That late in the 1st round, you can find a potential difference maker, you take him no matter the position. In this mock, with so many OT's off the board, going after Cody isn't a bad move imo.

I don't think its a terrible move. I just don't see it.I think Pickett will be resigned if they want to move Raji to take over if Jolly is not around.I forgot that both he and Jolly were FA's when I posted though. And is Cody really a difference maker? Not sure. I was pretty big on him last year but know several Bama fans talking about him at times that make me wonder. Nothing too bad about him...just don't know.If that many OTs are off the board...I could see THompson trading down again or going DB with the #1 pick.

There is zero chance of this. The Steelers have a ton of holes on D: CB, S, ILB, DE, NT
There are three ol prospects that go inthis mock immediately after pittsburgh's pick and I'd be happy with any of the three
I wouldn't be shocked or upset with a T, but they have far bigger needs. Even on the O-line, I would rather an interior guy than a T.

I don't really have any confidence in Thompson drafting a tackle. I know they need to, but the guy just isn't very good at evaluating o-lineman. He consistently drafts "versatile" lineman that don't really have a natural position. They are either drafting college tackles to be guards, or college guards to be centers. I am not a big fan of that approach. I would much rather see him go after a tackle in free agency but I know that isn't going to happen. Besides tackle the biggest need on this team is db. I wouldn't mind taking a few in the first 4 rounds.
